I have the annoying experience of having both my supervisors greeting me with "yo, yo, yo!" and I can't understand what the b.s. is for. All I can tell is that neither if them say "hola" to the Spanish ladies or men but I get yo! and what's up (like they are street). They don't use this with other co-workers, just me. Between my natural hair and dark bronze skin I have to hear the b.s. I'm a Afro- Latina and they don't expect me to know Spanish or to have a personality other than "I must be hood cuz I have a curly fro and I look different from them". Not cool at all, or if I'm asked if I work as a janitor by some ppl, but when they ask what I do and I say I work in the IT dept. they always say "oh Really!?" like I can't be brown, afro wearing, sexy and above all else SMART!

I don't tell people I'm Panamanian because half ask what is that anyway lol. My oldest looks more like me but my youngest has straighter hair and dark reddish brown tone like me and they have asked me when did he learn to speak Spanish and why? Tired of that comment when they hear us speaking Spanish to each other when we are in public.

I hope to be like this woman when I'm older, I'll never think of myself as being superior in any way, that's like saying I'm perfect. Like I keep saying, hopefully the kids of my generation from the 90's and early 2000's will make a change, it'll be a struggle, but I'd give anything just to make that reality if I could.

I get tense when trying to talk to white people about race lol. I try to make sure I don't seem like I'm trying to attack or blame them because it seems like they get defensive fast, most of the time. I very rarely talk to whites about race because usually they do something that I call the 3 ds, deflect, deny or defend. If they are special, they may do a combination lol. I love people like her, Jane Elliott or Dixon White. It means a lot when people can listen objectively and sympathize.

William Tarleton White Supremacists are so caught up in their evil of superiority that they have not stopped for a moment to consider the ramifications of their actions. They have Oppressed every single race of people on this planet, every single one and to think that one day it will not backfire? To think that it can continue is not smart. Then again, we're not dealing with a smart group of people or a progressive group of people are we?

There is a good documentary called "Things We Won't Say About Race That Are True.". It was created by Trevor Phillips who was the chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission of Great Britain. You can find it here on UKposts. I would recommend watching it in its entirety but around the 33:30 minute mark he explains an observation that I think would be helpful for anyone seriously involved in working in the field of equality and human rights. I think Dr. DiAngelo presented her case well and I found it challenging and insightful. Let me share the insight that Trevor came upon as a result of the work he was doing in Great Britain. He starts by explaining the laws of race relations for blacks: 1) All blacks are alike. 2) All blacks are inferior. 3) All blacks are required to be subordinate and know their place. He then goes on to explain how today very few people accept these laws be they black or white. He then goes on to explain how a new dogma has emerged as an unintended consequence. These are the laws of race relations for whites: 1) All whites are alike. 2) All whites are guilty and tainted. 3) No white person should ever criticize someone who is not white. Just give that some thought for a moment. The ideals he set out to accomplish were not producing the desired result. Instead of creating more equality he had essentially just flipped the script. That points to the larger question of how do you address the inequalities in society without dumping all the racial baggage onto an individual who is not equipped to unpack it and put it away. This is a dilemma and I see us going down this path. Not to take away from Dr. DiAngelo but you are never going to get most white people to acknowledge their privilege by telling them to own the historical baggage of those who came before. Not going to happen...you end up with Brexit and President Trump.

Yes, racially that's how whites are. They're trained to be disconnected & oblivious so they can operate with white supremacy & feel fine with themselves. It's called white psychosis.
@paqman777yt
@paqman777yt 7 років тому
For all this talk about race and racism the focus is generally centered on two races...black people and white people. This is probably because of the legacy of slavery. To have an honest conversation about race in this country I think it essential to have an honest conversation about slavery in this country. Being black in America has always been a struggle. But America the continent and America the country simply can not be lumped together without a distinction. From the black perspective I can see how very little changed. This is probably a poor analogy but blaming the founding fathers for not ending slavery after America became a nation would be like blaming President Obama for not ending global warming after he became president. A large number of the founders recognized that slavery was wrong but the abolitionist had to face the socio-economic realities of their time. This is best explained by reading the history of Fredrick Douglass and Lincoln's conversations. In the previous 200 years very little effort went into ending slavery yet after America won her independence in just 6 years Massachusetts became the first state to abolish slavery. We eventually had to fight a civil war to further along the promise made to black Americans. I guess the point I'm trying to get across here is that our countries origins and slavery were entangled in such a way that it is easy to blur the lines. I imagine if the founders were able to see America today they would be saddened. I think part would be shame that it took as long as it did to end slavery and partly because we seem to have given up on the ideals they had hoped to achieve.

Whites are afraid to speak yet we have the power? No, the thing I'm afraid to speak about has power over me. Think about it. And I love this, if I say I get it, I don't get it. If I say I don't get it, I also don't. So Whites can't win with this thinking. That's why we are afraid to speak.
@patrickobannon8924
@patrickobannon8924 Рік тому
Race talk is a major weak point for whites that's for sure. And of course whites don't get it, they aren't non-white and usually aren't a minority in their country. That's the point of listening & learning. But the superiority & guilt complexes get in the way, hence the predictable behaviour.

shady 72 Spot on with your comment. 100% true. I noticed when people say white men get shot and killed by police more than black men; I don't dispute it, I have a problem with the fact that I rarely see it. I never see white men laying stretch out on the pavement bleeding out. I constantly see it with black men. All its doing is putting themselves ( white people ) deeper into a hole socially to a point of no return and the media being the main culprit of this mischief by police just to get ratings and using social racism by the system, which is a form of arrogance when they engage as seems to being an ally with the police by telling lies and deception, making the black man out to be a criminal before they even get the full story. If you go overseas, people everywhere are looking at this and are upset and angry with the fact that our federal government officials are not saying anything regarding this matter, where police are shooting and killing UNARMED people. They say that this is a form of terrorism in which I agree with when a person doesn't have a means to defend themselves and get shot and killed in cold blood, straight up murdered. The world is watching and as a white person, to this point, you should be scared as fuck. These white supremacists are so damn stupid logically, that they just react emotionally when they cannot see the big picture in the future of what their doing to white people as a whole.

During the last 60 years that I have lived, we have all had the same opportunities. I played, went to school, married, and worked with all races, cultures and nationalities. Life is what YOU make it. I have surrounded myself with family and friends that lifted me up and a wanted me to succeed. I have worked hard at having a fulfilled life This pity-party leads to nowhere.
