Mods have showed us there "is" a way forward. You can mod skyrim to have better combat than DD2 already. Now, the question would be how much is Bethesda willing to take on as their own IP...

In Skyrim you can choose and switch between first person view and third person view. Combat in rpgs should be irrelevant to the true "role playing" games. In my opinion, rpgs should have an emphasis on story, sidequests, and exploration... not combat.... Although Skyrim has this zoom out into third person and slow motion effects for finishers so it's still cool... just sayin. 😂

​@@ultrainstinctgoku2509I think the slow mo was a bit too immersion breaking. Never cared for it. Also the game felt best in first person. Combat should also be important but it is great to have diversity and variety in combat and gameplay otherwise games are all too similar.

@@UlissesSampaio It had no other rival in a similar setting when it released. It's like saying you have the best steak in a salad bar. Yeah it's big but the competition wasn't even trying to compete. Besides, Skyrim was a fluke which Bethesda can't replicate even til now when the actual competition came.

They are funny and create an experience but dd2 is literally a successor to it's original game which was in development already prior to Skyrim. OP is right it is similar only in setting. It is as similar to Skyrim as any other game with this type of setting.

There are humans but they're just bandits. 95% of the game is fighting the same 20 monsters over and over again but somehow it is still fun.

Yes, Red Dead is a great example in terms of exploring and immersion. Some people might think it’s a crazy comparison but the game is one of the most immersive games I’ve played next to RDR2.

@@Anedime According to some interviews and showcases, Itsuno had the original concept for Dragon's Dogma since 2000. Got a small budget and time to develop it after years, which resulted in DD1. DD2 is much closer to the original scope. It's wild how you can see so many similarities playing both games, it just feel more finished in 2 (despite the current bad performance)
