this song is crimINALLY underrated and the music video editing is so inSANE

At first, we won't see it, but this whole MV and song is satire. Notice how they're "popping the champagne, look at my necklace, wearing a black dress" without holding a champagne, without wearing either a necklace or a black dress. Notice as well how they sound a bit lazy while singing those lines but they go all out while singing the pre-chorus and the bridge, lines that say "Rise, there's a spark everyday, celebrate your festival & express yourself more". Yes they may sound narcissistic but Dreamcatcher is actually making fun of fame & glamour without the industry realizing it. That's pretty fucking special. Also, even if the song is just a typical self confidence booster, after almost 7 years of being badasses, the girls have EARNED this confidence. And they make me proud to be a fan, as always.

I really like the new album. Unfortunately, due to the video, “OOTD” was partially misunderstood and Dreamcatcher was accused of selfishness and narcissism. The opposite is the case - that is exactly what is made into the theme of the song. The concept of the album is called: “Villian”. Unmistakable. It's about the tendency of more and more idiots to present themselves on the Internet - without knowledge or shame. “More appearance than reality” is the motto. And DC denounces it.

The face of rock in kpop

The more I watch this video, the more details I find that make it obvious it's an ironic/shout out to the negative sides of the music industry and social media. I mean... the constant editing and re-editing of pictures, the planned/fake fights (handong and yoohyeon), also are those "bruises" on handong's legs once you see her whole body 0:55?!! The video makes some lines have a completely different meaning. Like "gonna catch your attention, then wait till you know" or "ootd this my fashion, shut up, no more questions" ---> we enjoy and consume and sometimes envy people over pictures and videos we constantly see on our feeds, that we ignore or even choose to ignore the "darker" side behind them. Which could either be exploitation, faking a smile everyday, narcissism, addictions ("driving on the highway, drunken everyday"), and..... oh god. Also "OOTD" could reference fast fashion, although I see it more like a "you like my facade today, you'll probably hate me tomorrow". Which makes the video a paradox itself seeing the reactions of some people after 1 listen lol. Anyway, this is dreamcatcher's "girl crush" concept, as much as "BEcause" was a love song 🖤

I think OOTD is really quite genius for (at least) 2 reasons: number 1: you can enjoy it 2 ways 1. the first impression, self-love way (more mainstream appropriate) and 2. take the time and figure out the underlying meaning, finding all those dark details (in both the lyrics, the music and the mv) number 2: reason number 1 reflects EXACTLY the deeper meaning: a lot of people take things superficially at face value and ignore the dark side of the "perfect" world they so admire and like that allow their own and celebrities exploitation They didn't just spell the message out but instead are challenging our critical thinking.

I've seen so many comments : "i've been following them for a long time but i'm disappointed" "this isnt rock" "they're going mainstream" This and that... 😒 Well, I've been following them since they were minx. I'm a prehistoric InSomnia 😜 They always try new things (they told us this) since scream era but still maintain their signature sound..they never disappoint the song may sound too poppish but the instrumental screams rock. In kpop, thats kinda new...sort of..It would be clearer if they give us the instrumental for this track. Ootd is hip hop pop punk rock - they're blending too many genres (and i like it). I guess this style suits their lore and concept for this comeback. But tbh, it is a grower for some people...but an instant banger for some others maybe later down the road, this song too would have the stamp of 'this is dreamcatcher' esp when other groups start to do like them (some groups are starting to do rock nowadays) It's ok if you don't like this song. Just dont be disrespectful and mind the way you write your comments. Perhaps you would like their bsides. They do have a wide discography. They are versatile. I'm pretty sure there is at least 1 song to your liking. With that said, go listen to the bsides from this album. They r all chef's kiss esp Rising and shatter and we are young 😊 P. S. OOTD is amazing!!!

Been two months and still coming back to this song - only gets better each time! Exploring the theories and diving into the concept makes it all even wilder. Something to consider: I think theyre doing something similar to what they did with BEcause. As in, taking a theme thats very popular in kpop (with BEcause it was upbeat love songs, with OOTD its girl crush confidence anthems) and pushing that theme until it becomes toxic/obsessive for the singer. They mentioned in pr statements for this cb that they wanted to explore the concept of confidence turning into narcissism. I think its really cool to do that with kpop, which is a culture thats really obsessive and profits from it

Some thoughts... In the MV it's showing design, editing, production of photo shoots / mv all throughout. The song is calling out satirically the Aggressive Narcissistic Extravagance that many put on display when gaining more success and showing the production helps illustrate that it's all just a production by design and not necessarily real. Such as the break in the middle where Handong is fighting Yoohyeon, but cut... and Handong's true self helps up Yoohyeon, separating them from what is being portrayed in the mv. The lyrics are satirically like many pop songs where they just brag about how awesome they are, so priceless, so gorgeous, so flawless, so spotless... they're beyond your reach, showing off what fashion they have, products they own and won't you try and join them buy buying similar products. There's a few hints potentially questioning it all. Do you feel like a monster? Hypnotize, make it dizzy. By they end you've been entranced and you're done for.

At first I thought they used a slowmotion effect in the chorus for that dance move but wheb you see the dance practice you see that it is completely natural, they have such good control!

The way I see OOTD has at least three layers - Superficial, Satirical and Story layer. The first is the most obvious which is the self-empowering, confidence boosting "we are beautiful, successful, rich and famous" kind of message. JiU calls herself Venus, a goddess and being literally "drop dead gorgeous" at the end.. And it is just soo over the top :D But the thing is they deserve it and could actually do it, but it is just not them. On a satirical layer this song is a huge middlefinger to the music industry in general and the superficial beauty where everything is all about the looks, everything staged and edited. The soundscape and parts of the M/V mimic generic girl crush concept sounds (what you do not really hear in the other 70+ songs DreamCatcher has) and the M/V redraw parts of other M/Vs. Posing with cool Cars and Motorcycles (Siyeon - Sua), doing commercial and product placement (Gahyeon), just posing looking fabulous with high fashion (Handong and JiU wearing Dior), making fake drama for more views (Yoohyeon) etc. The rap section is told from the perspective of an idol how many of them act after getting some fame. And for all the previous pictures they empathize that those are fake, and show how they actually look from behind the scene. Handong with the bruises, JiU like a boxed product, the Yoohyeon drama that ends right after the cut and the behind the scene footage and rendering shots for the other three. They also incorporate really short cuts to ensure we do not take them seriously, like the face Handong makes, Yoohyeon burst into a laughter throughout the final chorus, Siyeon laughing etc. Also the "Look at my necklace" (that she is not wearing), "look at my black dress" while wearing street fashion... Now for this satirical layer they had to adjust a bit their delivery and this is what makes this track different and this is why many who love the Dreamcatcher signature sound complain. First they wanted to not just look but to sound a bit like a traditional K-Pop girl crush song. And those filters and distortions and tuning that make a not so great singer sound good actually take a bit away from parts as we can hear their natural voice less as normally they do not use it since they are such great singers and do not need it... Also they deliberately used lifeless robotic delivery through the "OOTD this my fashion shut up no more question", like OOTD is the only thing that matters, they have no opinion about anything else, do not ask them about anything else as this is the robotic answer you get. In the final chorus they are almost laughing while singing to highlight the sarcasm. Also the overly playful mocking tone of the "I am only doing better". All in all ppl complaining about why the track is different most probably miss this layer. And finally there is the story layer where OOTD is the 1st part of a duology. Dreamcatcher members here are the villains who lure poor Shasha (the protagonist of the video, working as a video editor or graphical artist) into some kind of an augmented reality experience looking for the "crown" (aka fame, success whatever). The analogy I think is the follow the white rabbit from Matrix (along with many other Matrix style references throughout the M/V). And to appeal to Shasha they play the role of being great and rich and successful aligning with the narcissisms of the satirical layer. The way I see the story starts when Sasha searches for Dreamcatcher videos and stumbles upon the mysterious Dreamchat where Archenemy (spelled backwards, the 99th victim of Dreamcather) tells her about the power of the crown that she should be looking for luring her into this VR game. She follows the crown (drawn at the back of the truck) and at the end finds it but falls a victim of Dreamcatcher becoming the 100th sacrifice hence completing the crown. JiU even refers herself as Nephthys who is actually the goddess of death, decay, and darkness, mother of Anubis and Shasha falls when JiU "places the crown" on her head. This lore is not in the video, there were some external clues to put together this part.

OOTD is about the VillianS behind the screens, making the content. This time Dreamcatcher is playing the bad guys. Whereas Odd Eye was about the VillianS who sit in front of the screen, consuming, judging, hating etc. In Odd Eye, Dreamcatcher played the victims (behind the screen). It’s the same interface: producers vs consumers via a screen. And they are showing that there are VillianS on both sides.

They probably 50-70% love OOTD. Their favorite title track might be one of the Dystopia title tracks. 2. The ones that love dramatic ups-and-downs and melancholic progressions. They are probably a bit disappointed with OOTD but very much in love with Deja Vu and Demian. 3. The ones curious to find what hard-hitting rock elements DC incorporate into their songs. Their favorite track might be PIRI, VISION, What, Endless Night, or Don't Light My Fire. 4. The ones who are caught by the J-Pop influence. To anyone who is curious about what happened to Ymenehcra - there were 7 usb's which were given to insomnia who went to a certain café and ordered "the crown". Those usb's contain audio files. When combined, you get a short conversation between the members. Turns out that they are luring others, one of which was Ymenehcra, the 99th person. Now they only need one more sacrifice to complete the crown. That's Shasha, the 100th person.

Aside from all the lore that permeates the video, at a simple level, we're watching an MV that portrays the production of an MV. So, we're watching Dreamcatcher producing an MV where they're acting as a typical Kpop group and we see the real Dreamcatcher when it cuts and shows behind the scenes. This just reinforces the style choices of the song and the MV within the MV and the reasons why they were done that way to support the lore. Even so, their version of a typical Kpop group sound is still very much Dreamcatcher sounding, since while they veered into a Girl Crush sound, there aren't much if any actual Girl Crush groups that sound like this song. You'd likely have to delve more into boy groups for that search.

I am really really enjoying this new comeback. One a surface level, this song is pure vibes (and as a side note, enjoying a song this way is perfectly valid. Don’t yuck other people’s yums) - still maintaining the faithfulness to their rock sound whilst exploring different genres with it. And the surface level lyrics in the chorus are honestly a really fun “love yourself”. However, it’s really easy (or should be) to see the deeper message and the set up of a new piece of lore-building. Through the MV and its displays of (evil) editing, photoshops, green screens and behind the scenes we are asked to consider “how real is this message? Is the message still valid at the cost of what goes into the production?” Also, who is the ‘villain’? Is it the girls, breaking free? Is it the production company, who organise all of this? Is it a fake or obsessed fan set in the MV world? Or is it us, the audience, who find it all too easy to recriminate and judge when DC don’t meet our self-imposed standards and ideals rather than judging each piece of work on its own qualities? (Gosh I wrote a lot!!! Haha! Well, I just do really like this new release)

People complained when they said that they are only sticking to their rock concept that "no one likes". People complained that they never switch it up. People now complaining when they do switch it up. People will complain that they didn't stick to their rock concept. It's the same thing when people said that they would never get a win with their rock style. And when they did everyone was surprise that it took them so long to get it. This whole nonsense that they succumb to the "pick me" label. If that's the the case they would've done it after "deja vu". Or after "Maison". They have nothing to prove to anyone at this point. This doesn't sound anything like the overated trendy sounds of nwjns or lee sarrafim (or however you spell it. No shade on them. I do like ditto and that one song that was everywhere from lle serrahsjfjfn) this isn't that pink venom boredom either. Did they do this to gain appeal? What comeback doesn't. But at this point what are they really complaining about? Cus no one can deny that's it's a great song. It's non insomnias complaining like they know what's up. Bandwagon hatred. 'Oh i never thought dreamcatcher would go this route'. Well they're gorgeous and those who know it never doubted it. Those complaining are just mad that our girls do this concept better than their ults and don't even realize it's done in a way to poke fun at. But if you have to explain something to someone it's not worth it. Luckily the song is good and the consensus is United on that. If not then "shut up, no more questions"
