Boat Friends! I’m excited to share with you the arrival of the majestic and huge ship 'COE Luisa' in Duluth, which sailed in from the chilling waters of Lake Superior. This remarkable ship docked at Port Terminal on April 21, 2024, carrying a significant load of project cargo from Europe. You will also see a tugboat lending some assistance to help this big monster vessel into the dock.
The COE Luisa, a general cargo ship launched in 2007, is not just any vessel. It’s a powerhouse equipped with two massive deck cranes, each capable of a combined lift of up to 360 metric tons, making it a standout in the Great Lakes for handling heavy cargo. It’s also built to navigate through icy waters, being classified under the Finnish/Swedish 1A Ice Class by the American Bureau of Shipping. With a gross tonnage of 9,627 and a deadweight of approximately 12,696 metric tons, its size is as impressive as its capability.
Adding to its grandeur, the COE Luisa boasts a powerful horn that surprised me with a reading of 110 dB on my meter, ensuring its presence is felt and heard even before it’s seen!
Join me in experiencing the power and beauty of the Great Lakes shipping scene with the COE Luisa’s latest journey. Take a minute to leave a comment about what you think about this ship!
