I know - I've been a big fan my whole life, but his ego/attitude at the time regarding this song turned me off completely from it. Perhaps it was too sophisticated for their audience or for the average consumer at the time. Either way, his comment just kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. He was heavily on cocaine at the time so whatever.

Duran Duran hit so big and hard back in the early 80s that you couldn't go anyplace without hearing something about them.. I liked them a lot but we were so oversaturated with them within a couple of years that I think people needed a break, I know I did.. I think that's why really good songs like this went largely ignored by so many.. This was underlined by the fact that there were so many other awesome artists and bands out during that time.. The 80s, as even young people are appreciating now, was a stellar time for future classic music and movies

All I can say is what I sensed when it came out. Some fans didn't like this darker image of them at the time. Felt betrayed. Was silly. And I even used to. Get in arguments with guys in high school over the better Duran Duran.

When an old friend of mine (no pun intended - fom) heard this song for the very 1st time, he asked it was by Prince. When I told him it was Duran he seemed surprised. But I do understand why my friend thought that, it does has a Prince-esque feel & vibe to it. I think it would be so cool to see Simon & Prince on the same stage singing this together. I've seen both Duran & Prince many times live, so I can only imagine how freakin' amazing that would be if they collaberated with each other...

You could argue bass is significant idenifier in this tune. So not sure i agree with your post. However steve ferrone on drums, and Nile Rogers on guitar .

If this was by Prince, it would have 100 million views. I sometimes think Duran Duran don't get the credit they deserve. In 1984, they bestrode the world like a Colussus. My friends and I were in Venice, Italy in February 1987 at a club there when I first heard the single for Skin Trade. The DJ spun the record and played the video on a huge screen along one of the walls of the club. It was fucking magical, all the hot Italian girls squealing with delight as it played. Notorious was a splendid album in 1987. Duran Duran proved it was still the great band of that era, hands down.

It's only now I'm realising just how inventive Duran Duran are. The new songs are great. Just when you think a band has used up their best ideas. They knock something out of the park. Newly awakened fan here!

“Newly awakened” ..that’s so me right now I’m using that description ..also “Born again Durannie” I have always loved them and have been listening to them since the 80’s I’ve heard these song 100’s of times but after listening to their entire catalog on repeat for the past few weeks straight,my understanding of their true brilliance went NEXT LEVEL!😎😎 I’m absolutely stunned at how amazingly great they really are!! Every album is a metamorphosis ..you never know what to expect from song to song and album to album I can never get tired of them .. they are ever evolving musical chameleons and getting even better with age .. Future Past is fantastic and a wonderful tribute to their legacy

Great memories re-lived with this track. Maybe a bit too much inspiration from Prince - but I love Prince - so there is no problem... I get the best of both worlds.The album is the best DD release so far.

Totally agree! That first week when the "Notorious" was released I had a few friends fooled into thinking Prince had a new song called "Skin Trade". And they all loved it as a possible Prince song but later hated it as a Duran Duran song!?! They simply couldn't accept a more sophisticated and mature sound coming from DD.

Yo me acuerdo de esta cancion de Duran Duran del 86 como si fuera ayer, se escuchaba mucho en la radio y El video mucho airplay en MTV. Election Day de Arcadia tambien fue otro tema de Simon y Nick que se escucho mucho El año despues, ! Grandes recuerdos y Tengo 54 años!
