I think another factor is that Dustin tends to do well in rematches. He has his confidence especially since he won the first time and he’s been through so many meat grinder matches. He has his bjj as well that’s he’s been incorporating a little more into his normal game with some wrestling. I like both guys and won’t be too bummed either way but I gotta pull for Dustin.

What we have seen with Justin is an improvement in defense. Whether it’s a conscious decision or just natural evolution as a fighter idk. But if he focuses on defense he is on a different level than before

Dustin is hard to pick against because of his reliability but I have a feeling Gaethje is going to get this done. They’ve both improved, but I think Justin has improved more. If Justin shows up and times his power shots and uses calculated aggression I think he might even finish Dustin. Will be an incredible fight.

My only disagreement is in Hardy’s assessment of the difference in dustin and Justin’s performances against chandler. Dustin may have gotten the finish but he was getting beat in the majority of that fight. Chandlers wrestling was a huge factor and Dustin was getting beat up on the ground. Michael won most of the first until dustin got up at the end and was piecing him up. Chandler pretty much wrestled all of round 2 and could’ve done the same in the third but dustin took advantage of a technical error in chandlers slam and got that choke but i would argue that Dustin was losing until then. Justin clapped Michael bro. He boxed his face off, dropped him in the second and wasn’t damaged as badly as other fights. I think that fight demonstrates the difference in their wrestling and striking. Justin has better overall distance management when he’s on his game. I think he demonstrated how good his defensive wrestling can be when he stuffed chandlers takedowns and got back to his feet immediately. Justin also fought faizev and won against a guy who looked faster than him by having better timing and foot work. This fight is going to stay on the feet and i think Justin got way better at striking while dustin while clean and technical has stayed mostly the same.

The Altitude is a much much bigger issue than given credit. Look back to Usman dominating Leon through RDs 2-4&3/4 - shit every fight that card the person who didn’t train at altitude was gassed and the other was good or decent. JG trains at about 5400 ft and when he does cardio at Red Rocks it’s like 8-9000ft / unless Dustin somehow catches JG immediately as this fight dips into rds 2/4 watch for DP to dip in cardio and JG to find him and damage him mercilessly

I'm going for Gaethje in this one. Poirier is still pretty much the same fighter he was in the first fight but Gaethje is more refined lately. Against Fiziev he was a new version of himself.

Justin doesnt just walk into range and trade anymore, watch the Fizzy fight again. Mute the bias announcers, slow the speed down a bit, and pause frame to frame on each exchange. Fizzy got picked apart, barely landed anything. I just became obvious in round 3, but the entire fight dude was outclassed.

Asking who can fight for the BMF is like asking someone to pinpoint exactly when they fell in love with someone.....you can't, you just know.

If Dustin can counter the low leg kicks, he will piece Justin up. Gaethje will likely do some damage to Dustin in the process though. Can't count either guy out but Dustin has way more ways to win.

Gaethje has a great take down defence but that means nothing when he gets knocked down and submitted, to get there the Poirier has to win the battle on the feet first and that is going to be very difficult but not impossible, the best option for Gaethje is to make the fight as long as possible and make Poirier tired, step in and out and with combinations and don't get caught, i go for Gaethje win by decision

I've been following Gaethje for the last couple of years very closely. Therefore here's my prediction of what Gaethje will do in this fight: 1. he will throw less leg kicks, Dustin might check one of those and cause Gaethje to stop throwing them (which is a drawback) 2. If Dustin doesn't push the tempo and pressure Gaethje in the early rounds, Round one or two or even three might be quite boring. 3. The fight will likely go the distance 4. Gaethje will do more damage to the face of DP, however DP will land more punches Both fighters acknowledge each other's power, therefore will be more cautious, in contrary to the presumption that it's gonna be a banger , it may turn out to be quite a boring fight.

Dan what about the altitude? No one seems to be mentioning this and I’m so confused by why. Everyone seemed to think it wasn’t a big factor in the first Leon vs Kamaru fight even though it was clear that fighters were dying all night. And after the second Leon fight I thought everyone would say well I guess it was a factor but not really… Justin trains at a higher altitude than Salt Lake City and Dustin trains in Florida. There’s a huge chance that the altitude is a critical factor in this fight, especially considering the pace!!

It’s goin to be battle of chins,both fought oliveira 1 got knocked down and the other submitted while standing. Hence leaning towards Dustin is the better bet.

Heres my idea with the BMF belt, the last BMF fight was 4 years ago. I say we do this every 4 years, new winners every time. Maybe the next time we let the fans vote their fighter they want to contend for it. Create a bracket, find a weight class and the two most highly voted fighters compete for it. If i had to guess, the next contention for this belt under the previously mentioned criteria would be a welterweight Do Bronx vs Gilbert Burns.
