A former US Marine that served in WWII told his hospice caregivers that he wanted to meet another veteran that also fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal. Social media made that wish come true.

@uncleol
@uncleol 5 місяців тому
@@CircumcisionIsChildAbuse worse trauma than having a bullet through the neck?
@CircumcisionIsChildAbuse
@CircumcisionIsChildAbuse 5 місяців тому
@@uncleol possibly- yeah. It's not uncommon to think the only "trauma" or the main or worst trauma a person experience is physical. You have no idea how much psychological trauma can cause life long pain and anguish that a single bullet wound can't compare. At least with that bullet wound you had every opportunity to prepare during periods of war when everyone is getting shot. Try being abused your entire life since infancy and having hundreds or thousands of wounds inflicted on your newly developing neurology. You ever see The Joker movie with Joaquin Pheonix? That's the type of outcome we can see in that form of trauma. War trauma is similar but not always long lasting- afterall- you have comrades- you have teammates you have brothers in arms who are going through the SAME thing for support- plenty of people come back from war with no adverse conditions or are able to recover- but there are certain injuries you cant recover from. Most of the issues faced by vets are their lack of social supports and the fact that males are socially withdrawn from expressing their feelings. so they have no where to take those pains and are expected to suck it up- and thats how you end up with men turning to things like alcohol to cope. If you're curious about the subject I highly recommend a documentary called "The Wisdom of Trauma" by Dr Gabor Mate- he was born and raised during turmultuous world war 2 and shares what that experience does to the neuroanatomy of a small child.
@CircumcisionIsChildAbuse
@CircumcisionIsChildAbuse 3 місяці тому
@xeirux8911 good thing no one has come close to saying that. But I'm curious. A small child grown raised by a violent drunk, are we getting closer to war vet or is the only version of trauma you know involve violence? So if I abandoned my child in an airport. That's cool with you? How about tattoo? Your opinion of what is or isnt trauma is based on a very limited perspective.

My Grandad never fought in the war because he was a coal miner in Yorkshire, England. But his brothers did. One of his brothers was just a few weeks away from surviving the war. He landed on the beaches on D-Day and fought through northern Europe, but was killed in the Netherlands. I get really emotional when seeing surviving WW2 veterans living a good life. They are all amazing for what they did. Too many people don't fully appreciate the scale of the victory and the fact that we can never fully thank them for it.

I was in DC and at the WWII memorial and I saw a man in a wheelchair. His family was showing him the memorial. I don't know exactly why, but I asked to tell him thank you for his service. The man started crying. I knelt down and held his hand, speaking of my appreciation for all who served and that I was unable to tell my own Uncle this as we weren't allowed to bring the subject up. I asked if I could give him a hug and he agreed. I motioned his daughter aside and apologized for making him cry. She said that he had not spoken much about the war, but wanted to come here. I will never forget that man. He was so special.

Along with heart breaking, it's a full time job, which some children in their 30's can't handle, and it is especially bad if they have young children to see grandma/grandpa spiral down this hill. Othertimes, the child is also old and needs assisted care and is unable to take care of their parent. One that I took care of had a daughter who was stuck in a wheelchair after a car accident, she sent her mom to a nursing home since she had a stroke and needed to be lifted up off the bed and fed before being put back. I worked and cared for so many veterans. I miss working with seniors so much. I remember I looked after the last veteran of ww2 in our area and I became his favorite care Giver. He would look for me everyday and call me the Bearded fella. I would do the same care with him for 2 years. His daughter would tell me when I had days off he would ask where I was and she'd say I was on a day off he'd always say what does he need that for haha. When I was younger I was in army cadets and knew a thing or 2 about uniforms. So when rememberance day came around I stayed up all night the night prior spit shining and polishing his parade boots. I got him up and I remember him being grouchy cause it was early. However once he saw how damn good I made him look he had the biggest smile on his face. He made a huge impact on my life and I miss him so much. However I know the time we had together was some of my best memories. Through thick and thin I was there with him till the day he passed. He was the first resident I paid my respects for at a funeral. What's nice is how his family has kept me in their lives and told me I'm part of their family now for all the dedication I did for their father.
