This film is based on the manga "All you need is kill". And manga is much more... Darker tbh. And I like both.

Definately one of the scariest aliens races in all the movies I watched. The scariest in my opinion are the aliens in jupiter ascending. The aliens use the earth and humans as a farm and cattle type situation for the abrassax. 100 human beings makes one vile of abrassax. And most humans dont know they are a slave race and can be ‘harvested’ at any given moment.
@Pumpkin525

By default this is how computer games are. You die, reload the save and use the knowledge to do better next time. But what if the AI could do this? It wouldn't be a complete reversal as you would remember too, but wouldn't that be a scary enemy to play against? You'd have to win in as few attempts as possible so that it wouldn't be able to learn too much about you. Then again, with that kind of AI it would be opening Pandora's Box. We're better off not even making that kind of AI.

If I were the General, and I was being told by another soldier that the enemy has the ability to manipulate time, I would have to question what other unknown abilities the enemy might have. He had every right to be paranoid, how is he not know that these two prominent celebrities (one a genuine war hero and one a war progoganist) aren't mimics in human form or androids designed to retrieve intel, especially after they appear to have completely changed in character (Blunt's war hero turned 'traitor', Cruise's snivelling coward turned badass). This is based off a very short Japanese novel called “All You Need is Kill” in English. I read it years before this came out. I love this movie, though. The ending is happier. It isn’t a long book. Barely more than a novella, but it is really cool. The essence of the book is in the movie, as far as premise. The protagonist in the novel is a Private in Japan (Japanese), and a young guy, and the woman has the same rank and name but she is American in the book, not English. Still, I love Emily Blunt, and Cruise never lets you down when it comes to sci-fi or action.

4:04 I think it was the secretary that warned the soldiers about Nick and Rita. Think about it: that same day, she saw Nick get chased down, tased, and arrested by order of the General. Then, mere hours later, he is back in his office again along with the most decorated soldier in the military, sitting and chatting with the General as if nothing happened.

>"You are stubborn. You hold what I need. No matter what I do, you never believe me." This is the line that won Cage the device in the safe. With that line he displayed to the general that he is superior to an opponent that can predict the future by allegedly resetting the day and has convinced his best soldier to suggest killing him and that he was willing to acknowledge the general's superiority. He showed humility in the face of pride. That was smart. The reason why is he gave the general what was valuable to him: subordination >"You are not mentally equipped to fight this thing and you never will be." And that's the line that won him an ambush. That wasn't smart. The reason why is obvious.

This was very smart. But respectfully I disagree. He didn’t show much subordination when he pointed a gun at him. He simply convinced him. He eased him into it. And he knew things he couldn’t have known. He must have in some respect known the importance of the device hence why he kept it in his safe. Probably waiting for the appropriate time to use it. Subjectively a time he was feeling less stubborn and in control. I feel like you’re right about him showing humility. Respecting him and man to man laying the cards on the table. A little background is missing as I can’t quite explain the ambush. My theory is they were just spotted on the way out and the general had no say in the arrest. They were guilty of treason for being there, especially Cage and even the General isn’t the highest in command. They could’ve had orders from elsewhere. That or the general was scared having seen his abilities and even knowing Barnes was telling the truth, still had to be in charge and not be bested or betrayed by Cage. And probably just trying to bomb the Omega himself. Those are my two best guesses. Regardless, I don’t think he was completely unaffected by Barnes’ theory again why he kept the device in his safe. The general seemed more about power. Whether or not he was willing to sacrifice it to Cage, a man pointing a gun at him, the big man in charge, in his own office where he’s been in charge for a long time, is to be inferred by the audience. I think I’d buy the general being on a power trip more, but really my mind could easily be changed in that sense.

Wouldn't work. Whatever the "code" is, it would seem like a parlor trick. They came in telling him stuff about events that were just about to happen, stuff they couldn't possibly know, like who was calling and when, when the secretary was coming in the room, stuff she left out of the papers she brought in, etc. If he told him a secret only he would know, he would have still questioned it on the next loop. Maybe eventually they would have found a way, but it's also difficult to do/say the exact same thing at the exact same time, let alone be in the room at the exact millisecond they may need to be to have a chat with him in a moment that would work. Get there 5 minutes early or late, and the entire conversation/circumstances could change, right down to what the general was thinking about or doing the moment he came in the room, which could drastically effect how receptive he is to them. That also means they wouldn't have to do all the same exact things throughout earlier in the day, in order to be there at that exact moment again too. So there will be variables/differences every single loop, simply because you can't possibly do every single action exactly the same as you did it before.
@BigMac8000
@BigMac8000 3 роки тому
Wouldn't work. He said he can't rationally explain already what they've been doing. Being a high-tier military commander of a position of world-defense fighting crazy space creatures capable of wonders nobody has ever seen, you don't *easily* give up anything. Especially not to a sniveling worm you punished not 24 hours who seems to have had a personality change. It may have nothing to do with what he's saying, but what he said before, that the general doesn't trust him. My god, given the opening conversation they had, it's miracle he even got into the room. Meanwhile a military officer won't tell you that code, because invariably you could gas him into forgetting he ever told you it, or were ever there, and then come back tomorrow and give him the code. Whether or not it's rational, or belies some kind of meaningful code that you *may* have acquired by coersion of a close family or individual of your past, or if some psychologist perhaps managed to incept the idea of a concept into your mind --- in any event, military secrets are classified. You don't share them. It isn't about whether you deem it prudent - you have commanders and the chain of command to certify whether or not a person should be deemed worthy of classified material or recquisitioning military assets. But I like your thinking, in a lot of situations it's GREAT to have a passcode.

@@charlesg7926he's just a typical person in high command. Unable to ever think he could be wrong and won't listen to advice from people below him. The fact an Irish General is the Head of the global forces shows how the world has lost a lot. Ireland is a small country and one of the last two standing in Europe (other than Britian). So he's watched militaries all across Europe, Asia, Africa etc be wiped out. Billions dead. All that's left is South America, North America, Britain, Ireland, East Russia, East China, Japan, Korea, Phillipines, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand. Everything else is gone. He has the responsibility of keeping what's left intact and saving the billions left. Taking a risk on a what they are saying would in fact be stupid. They could have intersepted memos, known about the flight, researched the secretaries background. He can't risk them being right when they could be gone mad. This man went from highest ranking officer in ireland to head of a global defense force. Probably given the title as he has the most experience of any one fighting them in command. I see why he wouldn't trust them. Note he didn't instruct his men to kill them. He probably wanted them taken in and question but they both know they don't have that time so killed themselves to reset time.

I wonder if that timeline ceases to exist or if every time Tom Cruises character died at the hands of Rita she still went on existing in a doomed world. What a shitty way to discover multiverse time travel theory is real.

Imagine every death creating a branch to a new universe. Everytime he dies in the movie, that timeline stays, and his death is definite, but his soul moves onto another branch of said timeline, where he starts back from the same moment on the same day. And she would be imprisoned everytime she kills him to reset time, effectively ruining her life, and losing the war in many timelines before finally reaching one where they do win... Crazy if you think about it.
@Guciom

That's not how the movie works. each death of a market unit is a literal reset, all the things that happened to that point stop existing.

a manga (dont know its name anymore, something with "the good summertime" or so) took the concept of being able to reset, but the time range decreases everytime the protagonist uses the time travel. so the first few times he starts at morning, has to dodge his childhood friend on her bike, etc. but after a while, he starts at noon, in the evening, and at some point in the next morning, when a few bodies already dropped-cementing them lost for good. that was rather suspenseful since you knew he hadnt got all summer to deal with the threat
