One of my worst - this was actually in college. I was an English major, taking Advanced Grammar. First day of class, the professor started ranting about how dumb we all were. "I don't care what grades you get in the rest of your classes - you will NOT get an A in mine!!!" Then she actually started to go over the syllabus. The first thing we were going to cover was phonetics. She wrote "GHOTI" on the board and asked how to pronounce it. Before anyone else could give any of the obvious (but incorrect) answers, I said "Fish." You could almost hear the my classmates' eyes rolling, until the professor said "Explain." So I did. "You pronounce the GH like in the word enouGH, the O like in wOmen, and the TI like in naTIon.." I took the wind right out of her sails. (I had heard it before - it dates back to the Victorian era, when it was used as an example of the need to standardize English spelling). Since then, I have used it as my online handle, to celebrate a petty victory over a petty tyrant. And I did get an A in her class.

I'll tell you about my 5th grade teacher in Grosse Ile, Michigan, Anne B. Anne basically didn't care. She was past the age of 60 when I had her in 1976 and really just wanted to retire. This was the year where you basically learned fractions in our school, and her idea of teaching this complex subject to fidgety 10 year olds was to talk about it on the board, then point to the back of the room where a bunch of boxes existed. These were full of mimeographed worksheets that we were supposed to fill out and hand in everyday. She barely kept up with who had done/not done what and only gave a damn about the score on the tests. I saved up my lunch money, and had [wait for it: $3 in coins!] in a box in my desk. Some girl misplaced $8 in cash, and Anne searched all the desks at night and found my coins. The next day she accused me of stealing it! I told her that I hadn't and pointed out that it was change and the girl was missing bills to no avail; I now HATED Anne B.! To finally describe her professionalism, not only did she ALWAYS give the girls in class better grades on written exams (All of us boys noticed this and one kid's parents complained to the Principal, to no avail), but Anne B. used to do lottery scratch off cards in class right in front of us while we were doing our work and when she won $2, she would jump up and down and crow about it. Again, basically gambling right in front of the class. That was my worst year ever. I didn't enjoy one minute and the last day of class when the bell rang I ran out of her smelly room. To this day I still hate that nasty old woman, who stank of some sort of ointment. I swear I will never forget the smell of that classroom! Teachers are the unsung heroes of this country (with the certain exception of the bitch mentioned above). One of these days they will be properly paid and attorneys will have to have bake sales in order to buy yellow legal pads! Great video!

The majority of my teachers were caring , professional people who had the best interest of children at heart. There were a few that I loved-- who had the true "teaching" gene inside, and who could really get through to their students and impart knowledge in different ways-- usually involving humor. My fourth grade teacher was one who shouldn't have been a teacher. She put out a vibe that basically said, "I don't like children" and, interestingly, she and her husband did not have any children (we saw him a few times during the school years, and he was not "kid-friendly".) Mrs. Wizard is one of the "good guys" (so to speak).

Mr or Ms Politics. The worst type of teacher is the ones that force their political ideologies upon the kids. This goes for both right and left wing teachers, I had both back in my school days. You shouldn't know what a teacher's politics are, they should leave that at home instead of preaching to the kids.

I had one of those. There was a military arsenal several miles outside of town back after WWII. We had made a lot of chemical weapons, then never ended up using them. A big chunk of them were stored at the arsenal. After the war, though, the town grew much closer to the arsenal. We had signed a treaty to destroy all of them. So the Army had a plant built to destroy the chemical weapons. This professor started raising a huge ruckus. He was on a couple of national news shows ranting about the plant. They had sent everyone chemical weapon detectors, military bandage scissors, plastic sheeting, and duct tape in case the alarms ever went off. He showed this kit on one of the news shows. And he wrote letters to the editor of the local papers, on the Chemistry Department letterhead. He took a few class periods to show us all of this. Guess where I worked before that? At the plant he was protesting against! The plastic sheeting and duct tape? That was all that was needed. Those cheap looking scissors? You could probably cut a decent sized steel nail with them. He didn't want them destroyed there? Moving them would have been even more dangerous, and the chemicals were corrosive. They were not supposed to be stored in the weapons nearly that long - the Army was finding leakers all the time. And the professor? He taught English. NOT chemistry...

This is rampant in colleges. I had one teacher in a speech and debate class grade everyone down on the opposing side ( it was pros vs cons of a war in the middle east - back during the first gulf war ). He chose the topic, mind you, and then when we did our best to debate our side, simply wrote "you are wrong" on my paper and gave me a C- . Nothing else. Went to the dean and the dean ignored me - the grade stayed for the final. He was simply anti-war in any way shape or form (complete pacifist type) and graded us all down. The other side - easy As. So pro tip - DO read the politics of your teacher and follow their B.S. religiously as 99% of these types will grade you down for any dissenting opinion.
@Ghotiermann
@Ghotiermann 14 днів тому
@@plektosgaming One thing I do have to give to this professor - he was fair. His arguments were all logical fallacies (especially post hoc ergo propter hoc - after this, therefore because of this.) For instance... "After they announced that they were going to be building the plant, the population of the town dropped. It was the only town of its size in the state where the population fell." Yeah, it was also the only town in the state that had a major army base close, a big factory shut down, and a civilian chemical plant shut down and get cited for pollution. The area had more to fear from the civilian chemical plant than they did from the chemical weapons. He did know that I had worked at the arsenal. But I still got an A in his class.

My CT spent half of the class talking about gossip and had everyone's names memorized as well, so it was.. rough when I had to teach a lesson and they were NOT used to more than about 20 minutes of actual material in a class period. The problem with this type is that it creates a scenario where it is blatantly unfair to any student teacher as they don't know the gossip, names, or any of the in-jokes and so the students simply check out and don't respond . They are expecting half an hour of chat and banter and 20 minutes of activities. With that removed you end up with tons of dead space (where the CT then jumps in of course, thinking you aren't doing it right as they are bored) OR they check out and are openly hostile. Because you don't TEACH and have set it up more like an after school club, your student teacher is screwed. This is even worse if the teacher is the type that doesn't explain anything and has their lesson plan all in their head/wings it. Just does it and you need to replicate it without them helping in any meaningful manner. ie "I hope you use a lesson plan" - without telling you THEIR plan so that you can work off of their previous work.

I had a history teacher who was quite like Professor Binns in Harry Potter. Each week, we had a chapter of the text book assigned to read. Every day, he would pick someone to read from that chapter out loud to the class. On Friday there was a ten question test that had the same questions that were at the end of the chapter in the history book. Interestingly, again rather like Binns, he died half way through the year, in class. It wasn't until the last class of the day that someone investigated what was going on behind the paper he was "reading" and discovered that he had died sometime earlier that day. That was not teaching. That was babysitting.

I was a very difficult child to get to school and missed loads of days I was always with the learning disabled classes during elementary and the start of middle school. Eventually I dropped out of high school and settled with a GED. Just before that there was a failed attempt to send me to a specialty day school my high school district payed for me to attend. What actually sent me over the edge and never wanted to attend that high school was an indecent with my English teacher over my extremely poor attendance. One day I was waiting for my mother and was in the front entrance in that space between the front doors and a set of second doors to come and pick me up as I was feeling sick to my stomach and wanted to go home and had permission from the nurse office to be waiting there. This teacher throws open the second set of doors that lead into the building and gets right in my face with just me and him in this echo chamber where he begins to scream and yell profanity's at me for my attendance and that he could see through my bs and get to class then stormed out. This had the opposite affect on me and cried my way home with my mother who finally came around. There was a meeting with several counselors the assistant principle and a member of the school district all apologizing to me for the way I was treated but the damage was done and only one attempt after school hours was made where they tried to get me to do school work there with my mother present and I just froze up and stared at the wall saying and doing nothing till we left. Later in life I was diagnosed with Aspbergers and am on disability. I'm 34 now and do not trust anyone beyond family. I should also mention I couldn't find him in any yearbook photos under the staff section after my leave so I am not sure if they fired him or he quit soon after.

She never forgot about it and still affects her to this day. Nothing was ever done to discipline this terrible Special Ed teacher. Kids dont forget being treated like garbage by an adult they should be able to trust. Ive seen a few unfair actions and mistreatments in my time as well. I have had good , bad and downtight obnoxious teachers who simply had not any idea how to teach others. A lot of teachers seemed to be unable to bring their level of teaching down to a level that even the slowest of pupils could understand and then build on that to bring them up to a good standard of education. The worst by far was the maths teacher, he was just incompetant, followed by the bad tempered woodwork teacher that used to throw a mallet at you. Sorry but to me the saying of "Those that can do, Those that can't try to Teach"! Nothing ruins your chances of success in life than a bad education.

Don't get me wrong, most teachers are fabulous at what they do but a few of Us have not taken the job, because it's what they want to do. And this shows! Teching is HARD, and if you don't love doing it, it will show right away. If you do love teaching, though, there is no better job, and you will always miss it when you're away from it.

She used to yell and degrade us students in front of entire class. Had no patience at all and got a lot of parents upset. Luckily she (finally) retired by the time I was in 7th grade. Come to find out she actually taught my parents also in high school. (1961) This was probably 1990-91. She HAD to be in her 70s.

I actually knew a cartoonishly bad teacher, 'taught' 8th grade language arts; Marianne Blackman. A literal demon teacher stereotype from a meanspirited children's movie. Singled out the slowest boys, would contently pick on them during class and when out of earshot of a class would call them vile things. Like R-word, 'stupid trailer trash' to other faculty staff. Thought I didn't care as I was a female aide, but I protested heavily about it. Sadly neither the principle or cowardly co-staff were interested, just who she was to them, even though it really was clearly doing major damage to growing minds. She was already in her late 60s 20 years ago, so naming names doesn't mean much now, just feels good to say it.

I didn't go to school from the age of 12. Everything about going to school I hated. There were the condescending I'm brilliant and you are all stupid teachers. There were the ones who thought you should know everything about the subject but didn't actually want to teach anything as it was far too low a job to educate. There were the board rubber throwers one whom knocked a kid out with it. Then there were the ones in charge who didn't think you should ask questions about their subject as it was far too low to have to answer anything. And worse were the drama and German teachers who were obviously on a trip and should have been on stage or in Germany themselves not pretending they were teachers. Since leaving school I have self taught continuously as it is important to learn everything you need to know as no one will help you. I now do work for teachers and have found many of them are dim and stupid and only know the book of their university education nothing else.

Is a pain in the ass a teacher type? Just being honest, I had two really annoying teachers that hated me. I had a math teacher that hated me because I was a trump supporter. She was a typical Karen! She would always try to add politics in the course just to piss me off on purpose. I didn't say any thing at all or was dis respectful. I always tried to be respectful. I had one teacher that would yell at me for being one minuet late. Some times I would personally be on time and she would still yell at me. It got so petty that yes as respectful as I was, I hid in the back of class and just acted like I wasn't there and tried to not be seen at all. Its insane, she eventually got off my ass then and let me alone. After I complained to some one else about it how I thought her reaction was horrible. One Science teacher I had would yell at me for looking at her the wrong way or asking her the question in a wrong tone. When I was able to grasp a concept in chemistry she would turn up the heat and make it harder... Yeah well, there was a history teacher I really liked, then He became mr.video the last year as a senior. I graduated in 2019. As you can tell by my typing skills! I'm more hands on, I learned so much stuff from you over the last two years. You guys helped me rebuild or attempt to rebuild my 1978 PUCH MAXI and build and perfect four motorized bicycle engine kits. I am using a hyper cruiser frame with a 100CC engine on it. Now, I am embarking on a journey to rebuild a Yamaha Zuma pre bug which is a PIAGGIO ZIP scooter. It has a 70CC kit and it will be fun. Now I am also going to put a weed eater on a bicycle. Because of you guys, I have learned how to do wheel bearings and fully rebuild a two stroke engine. parts are junk but I got it back together! Thank you all, I really appreciate all your help and time. Personally your the best teachers I have ever had. I do not miss high school and I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK. NOT EVEN IF YOU AND CAR WIZARD PAID ME A MILLION DOLLARS TO!! THANKS A MILLION!!

I'm 66 now. When I went to school (I utterly HATED every moment BTW) we were hit with the sharp edge of the ruler, by the maths teacher, had a 'crow-peck on one's head for speaking... or two heads were banged together.. or had the black-board rubber (wooden block with felt rubbing surface) thrown at one.. or a 3" thick physics book whacked on one's head, by the science teacher. The headmaster loved caning students, alone, in his office. That was in the 11 to 17yo school. The 7 to 11yo school would give you either hundreds of 'lines' (copying the same sentence such as "I must not talk in class"), or the 'slipper' (an old trainer or cane on the backside six or more times in front of everyone. Today, that treatment would see the teacher in prison and on the child-abuse register (so forbidden from being alone with children or working anywhere near them. How times have changed! I never did ANY homework, walked home 5 miles from school once having been signed in in my last two years, was ALWAYS in the top class (classes were 'streamed' into cleverness levels back then). You might think I was bright but a bit stupid? Later in life when acting as full-time carer to my dying partner (HIV was uniformly fatal back then), I had periods of spare time, so decided to take the Mensa test. It turns out I'm in the one-percentile... so not thick at all. None of that matters anymore, as I'm retired from work and spend my time with my little dog in an English country village cottage doing not a great deal at all, beyond reading and helping my friends and neighbours, fiddling with cars and bikes and growing old disgracefully.
