I'm so glad to see that Stingray from Cobra Kai is given a role like this. He's more versatile than I thought.

I think my favorite character in this was quiet. Partly because I just like it when things are quiet, and partly because I relate to her struggle with people not listening to her and talking over her. Also she's just adorable.

Certainly was an interesting film. It’s practically reminiscent of DreamWorks’ cancelled film, Me and My Shadow. I found Orion’s originally bleak, paranoid and serious perspective to be interesting and I believe he is on the spectrum, due to how he takes certain things too seriously and realistically, kind of like how I have too much of a realistic view and having paranoid moments because of my autism and anxiety. Plus I love the Jim Henson-like designs of Sleep and Unexplained Noises. Makes me think of Sesame Street and an overlooked British Jim Henson show called The Hoobs.

When I looked at this film, thought that some of the character designs, specifically for the human characters were reminiscent of The Loud House.😅

I was hyped when I heard Charlie Kaufman was writing this.

Really goes to show the studio has little faith with producing original/ adapted productions, and yet they let trolls 3 happen!!! WHY 😵😵😵

Both designwise and personalitywise, I find dark to have a lot of Wreck-It Ralph-like characteristics crafted into him.

16:18 - 17:20 Personally, Orion and the Dark looks more suitable for a theatrical release in cinema theaters. Trolls Fucked Together doesn't deserve a theatrical release and it should have been release on Peacock or Netflix just to please the toxic fan base.

Apparently the director of this movie is Sean Charmatz You may know him as the the lead writer and artist on the infamous SpongeBob episode The Spinter, let's just say he's kind of redeemed himself.

I think it’s sad that this movie didn’t get a theatrical release. But at least they are letting Charlie Kaufman direct this movie.

Easily a major step up from Ruby Gillman and Trolls 3, even if sadly Dreamworks is shifting their focus to producing films in a more cost effective manner (outscoring most of the future productions to international visual effects shops). However, Orion and the Dark was a pleasant surprise that I enjoyed very much!! It's a cross between ParaNorman and Soul, but stands well on its own merits. Plus, having the art direction be reminiscent to a Jim Henson production is genius 😁😁😁

Still proof that DreamWorks and Charlie Kaufman made for a good combination….

I thought this was a very sweet film, it may not have much of a story but you can tell it’s heart is in the right place! The animation is like a mix of something from the Jim Henson company and aardman you can tell a lot of creativity and heart was put into this! It’s a shame that this film never made it to theatres because I would definitely put it up there with the bad guys and puss in boots: the last wish as one of dreamworks best films in recent years

Also, I feel the message would've been more powerful if Orion actually went inside the dark shack. For the most part, his experience of darkness has either been in his bedroom or the night sky which is full of stars or bright lights. To not go the extra mile, it felt like the movie was holding itself back.

This flick looks as though it glows in the dark. I would watch it for that alone.

I have seen this movie on its first day in the dark and it was a nice little feature that I'm sure can charm plenty of kids and I knew Charlie Kaufman would not disappoint with it. Seriously, it was one step away from getting the Animat Seal of Approval. Also, that ending made me think of the original ending to Being John Malkovich because of how bonkers it got (seriously look it up), not very surprising since Kaufman also wrote that film. Speaking of the ending, SPOILER ALERT: I like to think that Orion's adventure from when he first met Dark up to when Light burns him out of existence is just a dream Orion had, but what he saw was enough to help him conquer his fears and go to the planetarium with his crush. He then decided to tell his dream to his daughter and encourage her to give the dream a proper ending, which may end up becoming a tradition among Orion's descendants.

Dark looks like a mix between a Dementor and a Nazgul XD

The Dark is basically if Darkrai and I did the fusion dance.

I didn’t dislike this film, but I do feel like it needed “more time in the oven.” A lot of the structure and flaws in the world building undermined the core message in my opinion. It’s a good message about friendship/connection and embracing the unknown, but I found the very last moments and the meta narrative ideas to be far more compelling.

I still feel like a review of Peter in Return to Neverland will be a delight.

While I haven’t seen the movie I do know that Charlie Kaufman worked on this movie and it kind of reminds me of either hazbin hotel or helluva boss? I LOVE eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!

So it's a cross between 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark' and Pajama Sam.

I thought this movie was pretty good. Maybe not Dreamworks’ finest film, but still enjoyable. There’s some questionable things in the story especially with the ending but still interesting and even thought provoking. The animation is great and the characters are interesting and giving some great voice acting. 7.5/10 So far, Dreamworks is starting its 30th anniversary decently. Sure, there was the whole megamind series problem, but with this movie, kung fu panda 4, the wild robot, and also dog man they seem to going back to form like 2022. I’m hoping this year will be Dreamworks year.

I think this reminds me of A Christmas Carol but with a darkness theme

This movie is surprisingly really great. The green fly character sounds like pickle from blaze and the monster machines.

Ever since I watched this movie when I was moving to a new apartment, this movie seems good with its themes, animation, characters, soundtrack, voice acting, and amazing story, but the ending however it’s quite confused me with Hypatia (Orion’s daughter) having an appearance with younger Orion to how can she go back home to the present, and especially Tycho (Hypatia’s son) having an appearance too as himself to time travel to another story. The ending doesn’t make any sense how they end a movie like that by time traveling. Even since the movie has a bad ending, I’m really glad DreamWorks finally nailed it on this one since The Bad Guys. Man, DreamWorks Animation did well on Orion and the Dark since its announcement from last year, if this movie was a theatrical release, that would been better than what they did with Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken, because its marketing process was really late to promote the new movie. That really ruined DreamWorks Animation’s future, since the movie got flopped, and now I can see why DreamWorks Animation is decided to outsourcing their future lives right now for their new projects. Which now begins with January 31 for next year on Dog Man as the first one to be outsourced. I really like how the animation looks like in this movie, this is giving me thoughts on they did it well on 2022 with the Spider-Verse trend like The Bad Guys trying to look more like a graphic novel/Japanese manga and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish which was trying to be in the form of storybook illustrations. In Orion and the Dark however I like how their visuals looks on the textures to make it looks like it was made out of crayons, which makes sense why they are going on with a stylized look on it, and what surprises me with this movie is the comeback of hand drawn animation, since Orion’s sketchbook was here to introduce the point of view of Orion, its interesting how it gets an approach look of the sketchy thoughts in Orion’s story what he is afraid of in his sketchbook. The TV scene where Orion watched featuring inanimate objects getting smashed turned into clean versions of them is reminiscent of the Brave Little Toaster. The most emotional scene that completely shock me the most where this is so familiar is when Dark shapeshifting into his 2D form of a shadow, which is so familiar from a movie that DreamWorks Animation was originally working for years, since now it got completely cancelled by the studio itself in 2014. This movie rocks so well to me, since I have anxiety for years since I was a child, and even in my adulthood it still scares me over my anxiety. Even since Orion and the Dark is out right now in streaming on Netflix, This year is about to be DreamWorks Animation’s 30th Anniversary, since the last time was their 25th anniversary with Trolls World Tour, Kung Fu Panda 4 is on it’s way in theaters on March 8(my birthday is on March and it’s on the 19th.) and The Wild Robot will be next on September, after Kung Fu Panda 4 and Orion and the Dark. As for now by this for its 30th anniversary, 2024 is about to be the final year when DreamWorks Animation is no longer gonna be animating their own movies anymore, which is where The Wild Robot is about to be the final one where the studio is about to be ready outsourcing their IP projects in 2025 with Dog Man first being ready to be animated by Sony Pictures Imageworks (the animation provided for Sony Pictures Animation). Oh boy this is about to become the end of an era does it? 😢

Orion and the Dark The Story: 8/10 The Animation: 9/10 The Characters: 8/10 The Movie: 9/10 This is one of the first times, I was curious about a movie, not having second thoughts, not feeling worried, only curious. I went in this movie expecting something average yet enjoyable, but it wasn't average, its amazing. I love the story, the animation is creative and unique, the characters I didn't like at first, but I enjoyed them all over time. I wish saw more of the ending, but aside from that, this movie is a must watch at least once is enough.

You know for a fact "Orion and the Dark" wasn't the first time that Dreamworks released an animated movie straight to home, the last time that happened was back in the Y2K (2000) when they released "Joseph and the King of Dreams" which was a prequel to "The Prince of Eygpt."

I think that, the story being messy was honestly part of the story’s message. Not every story is perfect, and some stories are not simple. They are complex, and sometimes, there isn’t a satisfying ending. Sometimes, you need little time traveler to fix up the continuity, and even if that lessens the story, that’s fine. It’s a nerdy, fun expression. Because it’s the true story. Not one that actually happened, but, one that was true to what the story tellers came up with. Stories don’t have to be perfectly structured. They can be complex, and messy, and have Deus Ex Machinas that solve things. Things can have too much going on, just like how anxiety can have too much going on in your head. But, that’s ok. You are ok. You might be a bit messy, but that’s ok.

I wish this movie was in theatres.

Thanks for adding blurry bars on top and bottom instead of black bars which are seen in the original movie. "Cinematic" black bars makes my eyes bleed in direct to tv movies like this one. It is an immediate sign that maker of the movie is not a visual artist.

While i may be in the minority in this opinion I wasn't the biggest fan of Orion and the Dark. While i adored Dark himself and the animation was great the whole thing being a story he tells to his daughter but telling this so far into it weakened the movie a bunch and the break up felt so unnatural and ooc when it happened. It definitely got its charm and love but its a 7/10 for me personally

Well, I just watched this movie and I have to say it's pretty good. The beginning was obnoxiously cliche by playing every trope I've seen about a misunderstood, bullied kid but the middle has a lot of interesting, creative worldbuilding regarding the forces of night, and I thought most of the characters were entertaining. There's even a genuinely heartstriking moment near the climax. However, the last 30 minutes keeps in from being anymore than a 7/10. Orion's daughter provides a fanficy solution to her father's story, then there's some time travel BS, and then the last few minutes are spent with Orion's wife who we've never seen before.

First to get over my fear of the dark ;)

Pretty boring and safe film with some bad voice acting and the amount of times they flip flop between being friends and hating each other is weird. Though I’d definitely let my future kids watch this other then the brain rot that is Trolls.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but i can tell the one thing they did was wrong, they didn't advertise it much

A kid who's afraid of a certain character and lets his fear almost dictate his life until he learns a lesson that he doesn't need to let his fear get the better of him and involves said character he's afraid of drop by and help him release he's not as he appears... I have a feeling I've seen this plot somewhere in another computer animated film, but I just can't remember where... 🤔🍅🥒

Orion and the Dark 8/10 The Tiger’s Apprentice 5/10

My own Orion and the Dark ranking Story: 1/10 Animation: 5/10 Characters: 2/10 Score: 2/10 (shield of garbage and the worst Dreamworks movie of 2024 I ever seen). That movie actually deserves to be in streaming due to random scenes that came out of nowhere, the story is an awful fanfic and the main character and his future daughter and grandson are so annoying. The only likable character in this movie is Dark and that’s it.

*phew Dreamworks is starting to get back on track again, and hopefully kung fu Panda 4 will be the next puss in boots the last wish
