I was lucky enough to have a friend point out the need for resistor on the ground of a button or switch. Usually you just think of a switch as open or closed but you neglect thinking that that electricity needs to be grounded properly. Good point to cover it in a video.

Because of those burning demonstrations, I feel very, very small to myself that I am just scavenging electrical components even the tiniest components. I'm not saying it's bad but people says that "it just cost little" and sadly, it cost much for me, especially I'm not capable to work and get salary because of my age. No all out support and no access at new stuffs, only old things and reused "customized" crappy pcb. So basically THANK YOU GREAT SCOTT for all those knowledge, I still managed to survive this passion of mine and doesn't know when will it last.

Taking stuff apart is a good way to learn how things work and how circuits are designed in the real world rather than a basic tutorial or schematic that assume optimal conditions. Reverse engineering is invaluable. Plus your soldering skills get better.
@fakiirification

nothing wrong with salvaging. There are tons of useful things to pull off even modern PCBs. why pay for it if you can harvest it from something destined for the landfill? Ive even successfully repurposed SMT logic and opamp ICs and voltage regulators pulled off things. They are a pain to get off without destroying, but that experience makes me better at working with the tools of the trade. plus, its just fun to see something work with "scrap" parts, even if you have to add in a few new parts with it.

Hello, just stumbled upon your site. It seems that you have done 100% of the work for all your various projects/labs. Have you considered putting together packages of the various components (as they relate to the projects), and selling them? Since the demise (for the most part) of Radio Shack, it's not as simple as it used to be to have electronic components within driving distance, so to have all the necessary items for your projects would be (in my opinion) a value added nicety. thanks again

Hi Scott. I love your channel cause it's stuffed with information. The only problem is that you really shouldn't call this "basics" as I'm trying to learn electronics and find that after every 10 to 20 seconds of video, I google something and spend 10 to 20 minutes trying to grasp some concepts. So what I wanna say is that these "basics video's" are really more of a "table of contents".

If u place them parallel then you reduce the total resistance. Rtotal = 1 / ( (1/R1) + (1/R2) + ...)
