I dunno what it is, but the diamond pattern is way easier for me to see. -- It just seems simple. -- Yours was kind of complicated for me this time around; if I didn't already know what a bridge rectifier was, I'd be super confused... anyway -- thanks for posting this. Don't be disheartened that I said this, I still think your videos are awesome. Keep up the good work! :)

@matthollandsf
@matthollandsf 5 років тому
looks like it doesn't actually change (visually, the line is in the same position as the peaks). this is just an artifact of how the scope is measuring the maximum voltage. it might do better if he changed the timebase to get more periods on the screen.

hi, greatscott, i have a dual usb power bank, it uses 6, 18650 batteries, on the board there is a component, its code is SBR2045CTFP, the problem is, when i connect two spartphones on it this particular component gets very hot, also, the batteries go low by a very short time, i presume its because power are getting wasted as heat, by what i understand of electronics, i believe that soldering a second SBR2045CTFP, cathode to cathode, and anodes to anodes, i can avoid the heating by, I BELIEVE, excessive current, is this correct? can i solder a second SBR2045CTFP in parallel? and this will solve the overheating? like so much your videos!!

I am modifying a popcorn popper for roasting coffee. I have disconnected the DC which has a bridge rectifier on it and connected a 26 volt transformer to power it. The transformer worked great to power the fan but after 10 minutes it got too hot I think and broke. How can I solve this? Why are my transformers not working more than 10 minutes? Is it because the load of moving the beans around is too much for the fan causing the transformer to work too hard?

I think I just generally don't understand how electricity works :,D why does it not flow through the circuit when the ground is on the diode and the 5v is on the other end? Does that mean you could put the diode anywhere is the circuit and it would always be okay? Thanks, great video :) I'm doing electronics for AS and really finding some part difficult to understand :L
@seanpatrick9852
@seanpatrick9852 9 років тому
All diodes have a certain (large) voltage where they will break down and let current through in the opposite direction than the one they're usually used for. Appropriately, this is called the "breakdown voltage". The reason diodes normally conduct electricity in only one direction has to do with semiconductor physics and the chemistry of their composition - basically, gaps in the atomic structure make electrical flow much easier in one direction (by design.) Keep in mind also that there are current ratings for every component, so there's no guarantee that a diode would always be okay in either configuration!
