There's nothing I enjoy as much as watching that machine-like Rybakina backhand!
@EricJohnson-ls1rhМісяць тому
The first and third sets were fabulous tennis. Both playing at high level. I was rooting for Rybakina, but I have to give Vika credit; she is a warrior, with great fighting spirit.
@jameslee1062Місяць тому
Rybakina’s resilience after losing the 2nd set 6-0 AND after losing the game at 6-5 is equally remarkable.
@grantp4022Місяць тому
That Vika is still a very tough competitor, may have another major in her.
@EricJohnson-ls1rhМісяць тому
@@jameslee1062 Point taken. But even so, I am reluctant to praise Rybakina's performance. It's all too common on the ladies' tour for one of the players to make a strategic choice to mail in an entire set. I don't think that displays exemplary sportsmanship, and I don't think it's fair to the fans who paid good money to see the match. Iga Swiatek doesn't ever mail in a set.

@corgeousgeorgeМісяць тому
What an absolute serving clinic put on by these two. Granted I'd have loved to see Azarenka come through in this match but Rybakina is just too calm and collected to get flustered. She played so well and Azarenka was so solid. I thought when she got that break back and Rybakina dumped that easy volley into the net to get ahead in the third that Rybakina would crumble. She did not. She just stayed steady and played her Serena like magic serves when she needed them the most and came out with the win. So many three set matches and she did not seem gassed or tired. She's in very good condition!

Rybakina has a lot to improve, her serve saved her from a loss.

Rybakina has a tendency to lose her concentration after a grueling first set! Once she fixes that problem, she will be a champion.

It's good to see Azarenka in great form again. But Rybakina is so talented. It's really fun to watch her play. If she is able to play even more consistently, she will batttle with Iga Swiatek for world number one.

Rybakina makes too many unforced errors. She has too many lapses of concentration.
@Rick9482Місяць тому
Well she doesn't have the concentration of Swiatek but she's the one who will be fighting for the championship on Saturday. Her winners and unforced run about even and for an aggressive player like her that's extremely good.

Probably the best match I've seen Vika play. Yet if it weren't for Elena's deflaction due to the heat...could have been straights sets.
@Rick9482Місяць тому
That beautiful serve of Elena will win her many championships. Azarenka fought well but that serve of hers just doesn't hold up well. Plus, I just don't like her and never have. She's somewhat of a bully and I'm glad she lost.
@AFCompanyМісяць тому
How can you bully someone in a no contact sport?
@Rick9482Місяць тому
@@AFCompany Pace of play, aggressive tactics, argumentative, general aggressive attitude on court. It's subtle but I've watched her from early in her career and she is intimidating on the court. Of course, then there was that minor contact with Sharapova as they finished a point and headed to their respective seats. She bullied her way through Sharapova as if she wasn't there. In my defense, I did say "somewhat".
@AFCompany29 днів тому
@@Rick9482 Azarenka has said herself she had such a big ego in 2012-2013 and was very immature. Tennis is very mental as you know and being intimidating is a big thing. The bumping Sharapova was a bit of bullying but the time outs and other antics was just bad sportsmanship. I think today she is extremely respectful of all the players, I just think all the energy pumps her up and makes her play better.
@Rick948229 днів тому
@@AFCompany That's a pretty accurate assessment of Azarenka. She's grown up a lot since having a child. I remember early on in her career before she became dominant, her carrying on over injuries and just faking shit to just get some sort of an advantage turned me off her for good. I still feel her two AO wins were convoluted victories with lots of gamesmanship. I still don't like her although but maybe that's just me. I think Rybakina is a genuine sweetheart of a young tennis player. I just love her serving motion.....very repeatable IMO. In regard to likability, I think Azarenka is the odd ball out as most of the women on tour come across as very likable. Collins, who has a good chance of winning, comes across as very grim. I never see her smile and she just doesn't look like she's enjoying the process. Her health issues aside, I watch tennis to enjoy myself and I can't find any joy watching her.

I wish a new tennis rule would allow for the deduction of points with every scream, groan, grunt, or growl players emit during play. It is so unnecessary and extremely annoying.

@JMaxwell1000Місяць тому
@@djl9647 Agreed. And it's amazing that several of the very best players just go out there and get the job done with not one single peep, grunt, or growl. Cases in point: Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek.
