I was 19 when this song hit the airwaves. When I first heard it, I thought it was nice, But when I first saw the video, I was like, "this song fits my mom to a "T." Her and dad were into drugs and alcohol when I was a kid, and although, they were never abusive to me and my siblings, we could still hear their arguing. When they divorced in 93, I thought, "wow, what a relief." My dad was doing his best to work and support us kids, while mom was out running around on him. Dad was dabbling in getting sober at that time, and mom was kinda lingering in limbo. Through the help of family, dad won custody of us, but, like mom, he was going from relationship to relationship. However, unlike mom, dad was always there for me. There was a time where I didn't see my mom for nearly a year. Whenever I did, we almost always had to be snuck out of the house, because of her boyfriends getting violent. I applaud her for thinking of us in that regard. However, I never really forgave her for thinking of herself over us. She missed many family functions related to us, etc. etc. In 1997, my dad was sober for a little over a year, when he found a home on 5 acres, and built the foundation of what would become a fairly successful, non-profit drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. He then asked me and my siblings to be his second-in-command, so to speak, and 24 years later, I still hold that position, with my mom being the ultimate decision maker, being as her and dad got back together in 2004, and they were together until dad passed in 2015, and we've helped thousands of people achieve sobriety together. Mom and I still have our disagreements every now and then, but we do try to communicate better whenever we see each other. We're both getting older now, Being as I'm now 38, and she's 63, so I think we're beginning to realize that our days in this world are numbered, and we should use that time to make good memories, and not obsess over bad ones. I will say this though, I could've sent mom this song back in the day, but nowadays, I just thank the man above that I saw more of mom's clean side than the drug-addled one.

I have I've been protested and demonstrated against Picket signs for my wicked rhymes Look at the times Sick as the mind of the motherfucking kid that's behind All this commotion, emotions run deep as oceans explodin' Tempers flarin' from parents, just blow 'em off and keep goin' Not takin' nothin' from no one, give 'em hell long as I'm breathin' Keep kickin' ass in the mornin' and takin' names in the evenin' Leavin' with a taste as sour as vinegar in their mouth See they can trigger me But they never figure me out Look at me now I betcha probably sick of me now Ain't you, mama? Imma make you look so ridiculous now I'm sorry mama I never meant to hurt you I never meant to make you cry But tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet One more time I said I'm sorry mama I never meant to hurt you I never meant to make you cry But tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet Ah I got some skeletons in my closet and I don't know if no one knows it So before they throw me inside my coffin and close it Imma expose it I'll take you back to '73 Before I ever had a multi-platinum sellin' CD I was a baby Maybe I was just a couple of months My faggot father must've had his panties up in a bunch 'Cause he split I wonder if he even kissed me goodbye No, I don't owe him a second thought I just fuckin' wished he would die I look at Hailie And I couldn't picture leavin' her side Even if I hated Kim I'd grit my teeth and I'd try To make it work with her, at least for Hailie's sake I maybe made some mistakes but I'm only human But I'm man enough to face 'em today What I did was stupid No doubt it was dumb But the smartest shit I did was take the bullets outta that gun 'Cause I'd have killed 'em Shit, I woulda shot Kim and them both It's my life I'd like to welcome ya'll to the Eminem Show I'm sorry mama I never meant to hurt you I never meant to make you cry But tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet One more time I said I'm sorry mama I never meant to hurt you I never meant to make you cry But tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet Now I would never diss my own mama just to get recognition Take a second to listen 'fore you think this record is dissin' But put yourself in my position Just try to envision Witnessin' your mama poppin' prescription pills in the kitchen Bitchin' that someone's always goin' through hear purse and shit's missin' Goin' through public housin' systems, victim of Munchhausen's Syndrome My whole life I was made to believe I was sick when I wasn't 'Til I grew up, now I blew up, it makes you sick to your stomach, doesn't it? Wasn't it the reason you made that CD for me, ma? So you could try to justify the way you treated me, ma? But guess what? You're gettin' older now and it's cold when you're lonely And Nathan's growin' up so quick he's gonna know that you're phony And Hailie's getting' so big now You should see her, she's beautiful But you'll never see her She won't even be at your funeral See, what hurts me the most is you won't admit you was wrong Bitch, do your song Keep tellin' yourself that you was a mom But how dare you try to take what you didn't help me to get? You selfish bitch I hope you fuckin' burn in hell for this shit Remember when Ronnie died and you said you wished it was me? Well, guess what? I am dead, dead to you as can be! I'm sorry mama I never meant to hurt you I never meant to make you cry But tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet One more time I said I'm sorry mama I never meant to hurt you I never meant to make you cry But tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet (The Eminem Show, 2002)

I don't want to talk bad about my mother I love her and forgiven her, but honestly I'll never forget. When this song came out when I was 21 back in 03. Gave me chills man. I kept hearing it over and over I guess slowly the pain was leaving me, idk. I'd like to say fuck my dad for the record, love you pops.

Lyrics: Where's my snare? I have no snare on my headphones There you go Yeah Yo Yo Have you ever been hated or discriminated against? I'm sorry mama I never meant to hurt you I never meant to make you cry But tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet One more time I said I'm sorry mama I never meant to hurt you I never meant to make you cry But tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet

I hope this song and video gives any kid who is living with abusive adults the strength and character to know, you won’t be there forever! They will be out of your lives one day. I hope it also gives them the encouragement to tell ANY trusted adult whether it be a teacher/ neighbour or someone who works in your local shop what is happening to you. Also know that YOU have potential and are a unique, special person and do not have to let any badness take over your judgement and lead you down a negative path as you get older. Look at Marshall, no doubt grew up an unhappy, unloved child, suffered with depression because of that yet he’s achieved so much and has given so much to his own children as well as been an inspiration to those of us who can understand what it’s like to have an unhappy childhood. I remember watching this video and looking over at my own mother and singing the part where he sings about it getting colder as she gets older. Of course my own mother didn’t get the hint, but guess what she’s out of my life, 7 years and counting and I couldn’t care less if I never lay eyes on her again! I choose who I want in my life and I choose positive people. Once again I just want to say that if any young person reading this is being abused in ANY way shape or form please seek HELP! And stay strong X x x x❤

This one still hits you emotionally when really picturing the story. I can’t get into any em music after the relapse era, but some songs like these will help his name last. The flow here was so effortless. If only he could still rap like this, but he fell off the cliff into being a wuss about guns, yet he made an entire album encore, bitching that his gun rights were taken.

Of course we love this song. Its been a long time since I've played it and my own son is now 26. I will say this: This man, like anyone else, should never apologise to his own mother. It's our job to protect you and give you the stability we may never have known, It's not magic and it cots us everything but that is what we do and who we are. I would never take an apology like this from my son and, as a mother, I wouldn't let Eminem say it either. Great song but I just had to say that.
