Whether intentional or not, the way he used a classic rock sample that the older generation would all recognize in a song talking about how parents hate him and his music is pure genius. The parents hear those first few notes and are sucked in, but then get called out by the lyrics for blaming hip hop for ruining their kids (which their parents blamed rock and roll for when they were younger). This era of Eminem is unmatched by anyone since and probably never will be.

"I dont want to listen to the language, but I want to hear the message" respect man. Sometimes we need to hear the things we don't want to, to learn the things we do not know. Your humility in trying something new and enjoying it is refreshing as hell. Keep it up man!

Eminem has a TON of language in his music, but it really does add to the flow. He has such a big, amazing catalog. Loving watching you discover him! He can get pretty graphic in some songs though, just as a heads up. White America might be a song you like.

“Your Never over”, “Going through changes”, and “Not afraid” are all songs you have to listen to. They aren’t gangster rap songs, just songs about moments in his life that changed him.

Little fun fact: Stephen Tyler and Joe Perry rerecorded their parts especially for the song. Later Eminem decided to go with the original samples in this song in consultation with them.

It’s about kids growing up in tough home situations and explaining how music can be used as an escape and people trying to shut hip-hop down not understanding how important it really is to so many people and the impact it has on them. It’s also an extremely small chance he might actually see this though because he talks about how he occasionally likes to watch reaction videos of his own songs because he likes watching people try to break it down and see what they pull from the song and what bars they catch and which ones they don’t.

I adore him. I had this same reaction. My teenagers at the time introduced me to Em and I’ve never looked back. He’s a lyrical genius. Glad you found him too!

Some important context to this song: Eminem is sort of the scapegoat for getting white/rural teenagers to listen to rap in the 90s. It's not totally fair (the proliferation of the internet; MTV moving more towards rap after the 80s; etc), but him being the first white superstar rapper kinda made him the scapegoat. So the opening lyrics he is partially describing himself, but also describing this new phenomenon in America (and how uncomfortable it made the teenagers' parents feel). It's very much what he's talking about with the "judge's daughter" lyrics, too. He talks very directly about this in a song called 'White America'.

One of his BEST! Eminem dedicated 'Sing For The Moment' to David Smith - one of his young Irish fans who died the night before from cancer - Eminem had given him tickets for the show 💔 R.I.P. Em got choked up but got massive respect from the Irish crowd. 'Oxegen Festival' 2010, in Ireland It was the first time I'd seen Em live - UNBELIEVABLE! Okay, so I don’t think Eminem was ever really trying to attract the middle aged, middle management, white guy demographic but here we are lining up and that speaks loudly to the power and universal nature of the messages that he so masterfully crafts. That being said, going back to his early days in the group D12, Slim Shady and Eminem are 2 separate-ish personalities and if you venture into the Slim Shady side of things, you’ll find the very disturbing Mr Hyde of his music. The “family man” is MOST DEFINITELY not there. And without trying to discourage you, I will say more likely than not, you won’t be prepared for what you’ll hear. Deep down, though, the message is still there but you have to step really far back to see it. You see, when kids grow up in a violent, abusive, crime and drug infused environment, bad things can happen to their very impressionable minds; bad, permanent, scary things. Once you see the 2 sides of the world he struggles to survive in, his song with Rihanna Monster makes a lot more sense.

I've bingewatched all of your Eminem reactions after I had one of your videos recommended earlier today, been listening to Eminem for as far as I can remember. I love your real, emotional and honest reaction. To keep it short: I have some more songs I'm almost sure you would appreciate and enjoy. - 8 Mile road (pretty unknown song, but one of my favorites. He talks about his life and what was going on behind the scenes) - Beautifull - The way I am - Careful what you wish for - like toy soldier (about beef that went to far in rap) - Lose yourself (one of his best, if not best songs in general in my Opinion) there are plenty more, these are just the first few that came to mind when I thought about "deeper" songs And if you're interested in Eminems raw skill in terms of writing and rapping, also just a few that come to my Mind right away: - Rap God (Self explenatory I think, he used to hold the record for the fastest rap in a song with this) - Godzilla (He beat his own record with this song) - Without me (just one of the all time classics) - Business (one of my personal favorites in terms of his flow) Regardless of if you react to any of these songs, looking forward to more videos of you and watching you react to other artists after I'm done with Eminem too. This is not just a self reflection of Marshall it's a dedication to all kids in the same situation that come from broken home's and feel pressured to be a certain type of person based on the environment they live in. The peer pressure to be a cool kid is crippling and makes you feel as if you're not good enough to be you. This song kinda lets these troubled teens know that it's okay and that you can be great without changing who you are. I was born in '77, so there's no way I'd not heard Dream On prior to this track. However, this is what really put it on the map for me. I fell in love with this track and, in turn, fell in love with Dream On.

Stumbled on your channel watching other UKpostsr Em reactions. Love your reactions and looking forward to seeing more. Also, This is how I look at some of his more “scandalous” or extreme content…he IS an artist. Just like anyone else who say, writes a script for a gruesome horror movie…people don’t give them crap or try to sensor that. This is no different. He’s fought through demons (like many of us). And he says out loud what many won’t. Em’s music (along with some others) has for sure saved me thru some hard times. (P.S they didn’t just censor cuss words on this one, they cut out the word gun multiple times which definitely took away some meaning.)

A few points: Whatever eminem song you're searching for look for the lyric video for it. If there's censoring then you'll at least have the lyrics in front of you. Or pull up the lyrics in a separate screen to follow along with. 2. Dont be hesitant with Em's "gangster" rap songs. Just go in open minded and you may just be as pleasantly surprised as his other songs. A good song to dip the toes into is Till I Collpase. 3. Slim Shady is incredibly theraputic, nothing more satisfying sometimes than listening to angry Eminem. as a poc a lot of us love em cuz he rocked with our culture and has always been in support because those were his friends growing up, thats not to say that he didnt get hate from both minorities and white people alike. Its just recognizing talent as it is. he was up lifted by a black producer and then turned around and helped a lot of other people make careers in rap and hip hop, and he'll always be one of my favorite artists.

He’s a lyrical genius! I can’t say it enough! He can rap and flow to anything at any speed or any cadence. And his story telling and word play is second to NONE

I consider Eminem a "poet". He expresses himself through poetic lyrics, words, feelings and emotions. His "Cleaning out my closet" being about his mother is the first song I ever heard, because I immediately related to it about my own mother. I felt like he was talking about her, the words fit my feelings about my mother perfectly. Once I heard that first song, I went directly into all of his songs, once I bought one album I just kept going. I also think how so many have put down and trashed Courtney Love, yet if you actually listen to some of her songs, you may change your mind. Those preconceived perceptions are what stops people from giving some musical artist a chance. Her album "Live through this" many are stunned and realize she is very deep and express's herself incredibly well as a woman. That album got me through my divorce, her lyrics "Go ahead take everything I want you to go ahead take everything take everything take everything"! I played some of her songs for my therapist during that time (many years ago) of my divorce and she was very impressed with "getting out that anger and expressing it out". She told me she went and bought "Live through this" and then proceeded to use the songs in her "women's group" and getting in touch with their anger and expressing it! A young woman had "loaned" Courtney Love's "Live through this" and said "listen to this I think it will help you get through this perios in your life". She was absolutely correct!

I would listen to this song a lot growing up. Eminem is a very talented mythodical artist his music is full of beautiful, unique, and well thought out verses. Even if you don't like the strong language it's definitely worth listening to the uncensored versions. When you search the song if you search for the explicit version you should find the uncensored versions pretty easily. i'd personally recommend the songs - The way I am, Lose yourself, not afraid!

I fully understand you about the use of language ... and I was in a dilemma whether to introduce my teenage children to Eminem. But I realized that otherwise I would deny them one of the greatest artists in the world. (I think compared to Em, everyone else sounds like Salieri) I introduced them to his music gradually and explained that he was also a chronicler. He has mentioned all the important things and people. Not for the curses, but for the offensive language he once used - it was a reflection of society. Twenty-five years ago, many people used that slang. As for the dark side - he has songs from all genres (crime, action, drama, romantic, family, and even porn). P.S. I’m loving your reactions to him. I’m 45 and started listing to Eminem when he first came out. But I was raised in a very eclectic musical household. I grew up hearing everything from ray Charles, Elvis, Billie holiday Beegees, queen, Aerosmith, zeppelin, steviewonder, Tina turner, run dmc, nirvana , Pearl Jam, Metallica, journey, dolly pardon, bob segar , Tim McGraw.. and feel so lucky. I was always told good music is good music. A good song is a good song. Race, genera, style doesn’t matter. Music speaks to your soul and to your heart. I love watching people watching new music and I love learning about things I have missed out on. I’ve been to hundreds of concerts and sometimes I would walk out loving the opening band I had never heard of that night. It was some of my favorite memories of shows were discovering a new artist. So I love watching you do this journey. Eminem is one of those once in a decade artists that will be heard for generations. Just like Elvis, queen, MJ he will be one of the legends of his craft. I would recommend headlights, toy soldiers, monsters, the entire album curtain call. Start from the beginning and watch all the videos on that album and it will give you a brief overview of his history in an order

I will recommend you "legacy". the language there is harsher, but for me whenever I'm mad or really depressed it weirdly releases a lot of stress and that's priceless. I love how you have given rap a chance, Eminem and NF is a great start. Even the “gangster” rappers also have very deep and meaningful songs, plus the ability to mix words, have them rhyme, and tell a coherent story is fascinating. I highly recommend watching the uncensored version when you have time because there are some of the best parts that got cut out and are worth going back to listen to. As you mention hearing it as the artist intended is important in some cases because those strong word can actually help describe. “We’re nothing to you, but we’re the f’n sh.. in their eyes” that line alone and the line about is he’s a “criminal how the f could he raise a little girl” they are much more impactful with the swearing in my opinion, it’s showing raw emotion. I admit there is a lot of filler swearing in music and rap, but I think there are points where it enhances the music, and Eminem is one of the best (or the best) at that

Every time I tell people that he is the greatest of all time, people want to argue. But, I could name over 40 songs that are just absolutely beautifully written that mean so much. He is a talent like no other and I am so glad that I grew up listening to him. He's incredible.

Sometimes we just need something to grab onto, some spark, hope, and he offers that. I can’t explain what his music did for me, when I first heard it in 99. A danish girl, far removed from his world. But he got me, his music and his voice was what I needed. His strength, his spite, his anger, he expressed what I couldn’t, and soppy story yes, but he was my crutch and my voice for years. And not to mention his skills. His self reflection and his growth over the years. My love is still there after all these years:)

So Slim Shady is his alter ego as you mentioned. In both of his "Ego's" he has the same witiniess and level of lyricism, but with shady, the witiness turns into humor rather than a deep message you'd get with Marshall. Some of Slim Shady's stuff has graphic language, but I wouldn't call it gangster rap. His songs, although vulger, have real messages about the world through his experience. I would recommend "Without Me".

It's okay if you're not into the shock value stuff, fortunately there's still a lot of "serious" songs from him you can listen to. :) But I guess based on overall output NF is going to be more your cup of tea, he *always* raps about life and serious stuff. :D Em's Slim Shady side is prevalent throughout his entire career, so his newer albums still has shock value stuff, horrorcore, pissing people off and the like. :D But recently he's mostly obsessed about the technicality of rap, seems like he wants to show that he's the best rapper on every song, packing his verses full of wordplay, homophones, double-, triple (sometimes quadruple) entendres, and complex rhyme schemes, flows. I don't think you'd enjoy those kinds of songs too much, but who knows... :) Maybe we'll see. :) Oh, and official music videos are always going to be censored. Try searching like "song title" + "uncensored" or "dirty".

As someone who grew up as a young child, watching and listening to Eminem, it makes me happy to see people of all ages explore and express their appreciation for him. May I suggest you also listen and react to Rock Bottom. It’s one of my absolute favorite songs, that draws deep reflection on the lives of the disenfranchised and exploited. Especially being that this song was written before (but was produced after) he was introduced to Dr. Dre… it brings attention to his material conditions at the time. The struggle and pain that millions of people can relate to. I love listening to his older music, and Rock Bottom was wayyyy ahead of it’s time. ❤️

I highly recommend taking a listen to “Beautiful” by Eminem, but NOT the official music video, for it cuts the last verse from the song. It gives an even deeper look into how Marshall felt both as a child searching for attention and his thoughts while he was the most famous he ever was in his career. Another Eminem song I think you’d enjoy is “Hailie’s Song,” a song named after his daughter about his life as a father and how Hailie influenced his life, but only listen to this one if your okay with some vulgar language that some would call excessive. You need to listen to Eminem cleaning out my closet. It’s dark but so relatable to when you have had a rough upbringing and a mother who made bad choices.

When you learn from his songs about the things he went through as a child into early adulthood his talent and success is even more impressive. He’s the biggest selling artist worldwide post 1983, he’s about to perform at the Super Bowl, and was just nominated for the Rock N Roll HOF in first ballot eligibility. All of that from a guy who grew up without a father, raised by an addict mother with Munchausen Syndrome, physically bullied for years by his peers, raised in extreme poverty, and obtaining only an 8th grade education. I’m sure he wouldn’t have the same drive without those experiences, but most people don’t succeed with even just 1 of those things against them.

I want to second/elaborate on someone else's recommendation. I think "cleaning out my closet" and "headlights" are good to look at as a pair. Cleaning out the closet has a lot more harsh language and topics that you may not necessarily like but will appreciate overall (if that makes any sense). Headlights is a much more positive song from many many years later that reflects on and responds to the topics in cleaning out my closet and shows the growth he went through and the evolution of the relationship with his mother. You'll like the material in headlights a lot more but you won't be able to fully appreciate it without hearing cleaning out my closet first. As far as eminem vs marshall mathers vs slim shady...it's less about specific time periods, and moreso specific songs. Marshall is him being himself in the more emotional songs about his daughter, while slim is him being...a little psychotic and exploring the deeper horrible thoughts in the bowels of his mind during his divorce or when his friend got shot as part of a rivalry. Sometimes he deals with it by getting lighthearted, and the beat almost sounds like carnival or clown music at times. Other times he deals with it by describing in horrible detail some violent endings for people.

I can't lie this is so refreshing to see some one outside of the eminem era if that makes sense trying to say it without making you feel old Bro but greatness can transcend eras there has never been a rapper like em and never will be again his lyrical ability is unmatched and personally he is the greatest word smith music has ever seen

I would avoid the darker Slim Shady stuff. That music is pure entertainment. Like Bonnie and Clyde and Kim. Those aren't good songs to react to unless you are in it for the shock value. He doesn't do much music like that anymore as he has matured. Eminem is a very humble, intelligent kind person. He does a lot of charity work and even has his own charity. He is a lyrical mastermind and a great storyteller. I am a huge Stan, but I don't recommend his darker music to be reacted to. I really love this journey you've started for yourself, and I am glad to be a part of it. I love many genres of music myself, so I love to see others open their minds and find something beautiful that they had no idea existed. If you would ever think of branching to another rap artist, I would have to suggest Wrekonize. He is a part of a group called mayday, and they kinda bridge the gap between rap and other genres. But he has a lot of good solo stuff as well. A good starter track would be - shortcuts and dead-ends by mayday. Please check it out, even if you don't react to it on the channel.

I recently found your channel and I've got to say, I'm loving seeing you discover eminem and rap in general. I started listening to eminem at way too young of an age to be honest, but the way he encapsulates the rage that certain childhood situations can cause in people. It sort of became an outlet for me. One of my all time favorite Em songs. Many artists, not just rappers, say this is exactly how it feels walking out on stage, performing for people and what not. And being a super star. So not only does Em inspire fans, but he does inspire other artists. Clearly he inspired Steven Tyler and Aerosmith enough for them to want to be on this track with Em. On Christian Rock I love P.O.D. and Skillet. Along with loving artists like Em and other rappers. The worst thing you can do is turn a blind eye to great music, no matter what it is, just because of a stigma with that genre In the 3rd verse the major cut outs on the censored versions are "Well, can it load a gun up for you and cock it too?" and "See what these kids do is hear about us totin' pistols" as They didn't want kids getting the idea it's cool to use guns..even though that's the exact point of the lyrics, to warn people not to take it literally and don't use gun violence, it's just a song. Like what he said there didn't even have bad words in it. it's just politics and society saying "you can't say that, it's too dangerous".

Eminem is my favourite artist. You dont have to listen to slim shady stuff. I recommend the way i am, going through changes, cleaning out my closet, space bound, stepping stones, in your head, darkness, beautiful, and many more that i am probably forgetting🙂

This is my favourite Eminem track - and that’s a hard decision to make as an Em fan - as he has some amazing music!!! Loved what you said about Em having a heart - totally agree! The guy really cares, his family is everything to him, and his fans are a close second. He’s so humble, so respectful and still gets so much hate! I’m an ‘old head’ too! Lol! And don’t enjoy a lot of ‘newer’ rap/trap but there are still a few artists I listen to religiously - Em (obv), Royce, Nas, Cordae, Kendrick, Joyner, Cole and then mostly UK rap. We have a lot of great UK artists with really meaningful tracks, Dave is probably one of the best just now. Roles were reversed but I felt everything he was going through when he first came out, because I was going through it. I don't think you've dove into the stuff about his mom yet though.
