Women being more successful means that they see the majority of men around her as inferior and not worthy, simply because women by nature strive for someone better than them. And if a woman does very well at her career she won't be happy with a colleague of hers , or someone on her level or below. She would want more and better and if she is already better than many men then her pool of possible mates become less and less and this is exactly what happens with many career women. They're ignorant of the meaning of the word itself, for feminism means equality between both genders and not women on top, men below! My words are brushed off when I try to tell my friends that that's not the case; maybe I would be taken more seriously if I spoke more firmly, and that's why I look up to Emma Watson so much. It's 2021 and we are still facing gender inequality. Many people misinterpret the notion of "gender equality". When we hear this term, we automatically think about female rights. However, this is not the case. Gender equality applies to both men and women. Today, I hear many boys talk about how girls keep controlling them. Although I am a girl myself, I would like to tell the girls that your discrimination does not justify your superiority. Do not assume that men owe a debt to women. Personally I think she shows great character coming out of a circus like "Harry Potter" and be so sane, so brilliant and on going. Emma dont HAVE to work anymore, yet she is standing there, holding a speach for something she belives in. Now Emma is a rolemodel, and I look up to her :)

Wow. Emma absolutely killed it. Her speech was amazing, and so heartfelt. I'm disappointed though, reading through the comments. Are people actually FIGHTING against what she was trying to say? She gave examples of how men and women have struggles, and yet the comment section is a ridiculous pit of childish arguments about "who has it worse." Grow up, people. Please. I agree with the point she made, about the word "feminism" being an automatic deterant. It shouldn't be. If you agree that there needs to be a change worldwide for both men and women, equality between the sexes, then congratulations, you are a feminist. If you don't like the word, don't use it! But don't attempt to make ridiculous arguments about this amazing cause because you think that to be a feminist is to be a man hating, privilaged woman who has too much time on her hands. Men can be feminists too. And for those of you complaining about Emma's status and the fact that she has "nothing to complain about" I find that appalling. Yes, she is rich, and educated, and famous. And she is using the power she has to spread a message to the world. Is this not better than having power yet doing nothing with it? People complain about rich, succesful people not doing anything to benefit society. And then they attack the ones who do. Well, your bitterness will get you nowhere. I sincerely applaude Emma for her role as a UN ambassador and as a role model for people everywhere.

kim621100 how the hell would I know? I'm not American. Besides, no matter what the statistics are, you're implying that women are somehow trying to gain supremacy by attending college, which is ridiculous. In fact, in western countries this is the first time in history women have been allowed to get the same college degrees as men automatically. Of course, this can't be said for every country, which is why *feminism exists*. Got it? Did you hear of the girl on the news, malala yousafzai, who was shot in the head for promoting education for girls? Do you support her opinion? Congratulations, you're a feminist. If you don't, don't bother replying. Sexism disgusts me.

As a woman if you want to be 'equal' to a man then stop demanding *special privileges and special treatment.* Want to be taken seriously? Then learn how be accountable like a man and not a complete flake and learn how to have character like a man. It's not going to happen until then. It's up to YOU. Men have already done everything they possibly can for women. Now it's time for women themselves to actually get to work and make something of yourselves and be a real person who contributes something to the world and stop whining that life isn't fair.

@konstantinmarx8406
@konstantinmarx8406 3 роки тому
@Daniel As I mentioned earlier, there is no reason why an activist like Emma Watson, should care about men's rights instead of women's rights. of course, men's rights are just as important as women's rights. And of course, there are also men who are treated unfairly due to their gender. but these are very, very small exceptions. Unfortunately, women are still statistically disadvantaged quite often. It is very bad in some countries, less so in others, but nowhere can a woman experience the same rights as a man. that may refer to small things, but also to things like salary or rent. these are facts, you can read them and that's sad isn't it? That you have to talk about something like that, in a supposedly civilized culture.

I wish more feminists were like her. She is a true feminist, one that cares about both men and women. While I agree with some people in the comments, I don't feel that statistics have anything to do with what Miss Watson is trying to say. She said in this speech that both men and women should be equal and free to be the kind of person they wish to be. She is not siding for one more than the other, despite her campaign's name, she is attempting to try to help both men and women achieve equality and equal rights. I know that men statistically have more difficult situations such as death, suicide, cancer than women do, and that is part of her campaign, she wants the world to hear both sides of the story. Not just oh women get breast cancer, and no real publicity for the issues that men endure across the world. She is saying she doesn't like feminists who hate and despise men, because she clearly does not despise men and not all feminists are men hating Nazis. There are a lot of those kind of women out there, and that is what she is addressing in her speech, she is saying she doesn't approve of the idea that gender is more important than any other. Either men or women. One day I really hope I can get the chance to meet Emma Watson so that I can shake her hand as two people who feel equality for all is important.

Kris Bright Yeah,a feminist who mentions men's problems but then asks men to solve women's problems.But didn't ask women to do anything.How can that make sense or bring equality?
@itsy3000
@itsy3000 9 років тому
Mash Zawad The females problem is attitude of some men so how can a woman fix that? Feminism is itself women and some men trying to attain a solution. A path to equality = a conversation where past mistakes are acknowledged and rectified.
@AJweathersby
@AJweathersby 9 років тому
Kris Bright Isn't the idea that men should feel required to protect women, because women can't be expected to protect themselves, the very basis from which all patriarchal laws and patriarchal societies come from? I'm confused. Do you feminists want a patriarchy after all? Because this isn't what equality looks like.
@itsy3000
@itsy3000 9 років тому
AJweathersby "Women can't be expected to protect themselves"... Really?... That's what you think all women want? Many women do not seek mens protection, some may plenty don't. Some men are weaker than others the same for women, yet those weaker men don't seek the protection of the stronger men. The case being made here is about education, civility and very basic respect for another human being who happens to be of a different gender. If you think patriarchy is about protecting women I can see your confusion. Patriarchal definition is where men hold power and women are largely excluded from that power. It's one genders dominance over another. The father or eldest male is head of the family descent is via the male. It's about control, be that in law, family dynamics or societal attitude and conduct. Feminism seeks and has sought to redress the balance.
@AJweathersby
@AJweathersby 9 років тому
Itsy Well then understand that most men have 2 problems with this HeForShe campaign. 1) For the last few decades, men have been getting hit with back to back messages of "benevolent sexism", chivalry = male entitlement to women, "Ms. Independent", and so on and so forth. So when we suddenly see a complete 360, and now men are suddenly being asked to do a lot of the exact same things they were condemned for doing, by the exact same group of people that condemned them for doing it in the first place, they start to get the distinct impression that there's an ulterior motive at work besides equality. 2) A lot of the things being asked for in this campaign aren't things that women as a whole do for men. You don't really see women chastising other women for disrespecting men as a group (direct relatives or lovers maybe, but not random guys with no relation). You definitely don't see women putting themselves in disputes that can easily turn into a fist fight on the behalf of men they don't know or have any affiliation with. But Emma Watson, as well as many feminist campaigns as of late, want men to do just that. So asking men to take a position for women, that they clearly see women not taking for them, sounds confusing at best and hypocritical at worst.

I am here after watching anti feminism comments on social media. Usually I am not so triggered by people's hate on social media. But today it felt different. It felt very painful to see men calling feminism cancer. So I came back to see this speech I have already watched plenty of times, to give me strenght. I am not sensitive at all, but I admit am hurt when people hate on me and my values. Thank you Emma for giving me the strenght to defend equal rights, to defend the word feminism. I want men to be able to express their feelings because it is not normal that so many men commit suicide. I want women to have the same wage as men for the same job because it is not normal they get less paid when giving the same results. So many equalities that feminists want to fix. Real feminists. Not the women who hate on men on behalf of the movement. Not the women who says women deserve more than men. That is not feminism. I love and respect men as much as I love and respect women. I am rational, yet some people would call me crazy. That does hurt. Hate does hurt. I just want equality, and I will assume it as long as I can. I want equality, and that is why I am a Feminist.

When at 18 male friends weren't able to express their feelings. this is the problem, all you care about is you, where do you come in, where are you being benefitted. but that's not the problem, and your making it one. men should be there for woman as woman should be there for men. men can feel free to express themselves without being weak. let's be there for each other, bc it's not about race, or gender, it's about people and that each of us are separate individuals, with goals.

Has anyone actually listened to what Emma has said? He for She is campaigning for right for both MEN AND WOMEN because society has made people believe that women are the victims of male behaviour. This is not the case, each gender suffers from inequality one way or another, and a majority of the time men are over looked because others believe they should be strong and hide their emotions. However I too believe there should be no difference between the 2 sexes. I think men shouldn't be forced to go to war, but I also think women should be paid equally. Gender equality should be taught in schools by law, young children should be taught that men and women should live the same lives. If a man wants to be a nurse, why stop him? He might save your life one day. If a man wants to have a role in fashion, why stop him? If a woman wants to be a mechanic or an engineer, why stop her? She could create machinery that could change the way humans live. We may not be able to change the lives of young men and women in other countries, but we can change ours. And by changing ours we can influence others to follow and make the world a better place for both male and female humans. To be understood in life. To be equal.

The comments on this video are disgusting. If you don't agree, don't comment. The ignorance and blame is shameful. She has one hope in this, and its for people to understand that, no we're not equal but we are not trying to 'over shadow' men or 'get them to serve us' its literally comments like all these that prove how misunderstood feminism is. Do some research before commenting, we can't be equal if others don't see us as equal, she's literally asking for men and women to be treated equal, race and gender aside, we are all human and WE ALL DESERVE EQUALITY..

It's EQUAL rights, I work in a field that is majority men and have been told by my supervisor that I can't work with another woman because I need a man to protect me. Why can we not work on the inequalities for both sexes together?

+CaReFrEe01 People hate Feminists, not because they hate woman, but because their movement doesn't make sense. First of all, woman should be guaranteed the right to abortion, that is a problem that they face and I concede this point, however making it state funded is nonsense. The rest of it is bullshit. Woman are paid the same as men when you take into account college major choices, the general less pay of primarily female occupations, and the fact that women are less willing to haggle for a higher pay when applying for jobs. Women have every opportunity that men have to become a ceo or get involved in government, but they don't because THEY CHOOSE NOT TO. That's right, women choosing not to do certain occupations doesn't mean that they are an oppressed people, it simply means that they on average value different things in life than men do. Finally, if anything society is stacked in women's favor from the remnants of classical chivalry, to divorce benefits. There are even half as many women in poverty as men today in the U.S.
