There are quite a lot of beliefs connected to witches in Ukraine, E.g. when the russians were in Konotop they were told they'll loose their male power since they've stepped to Ukrainian land. And when those russians told that they've come here to stay forever (meaning this would be their land), they've agreed (meaning they'll stay here as buried corpses forever). And i also have to mention that here the world "witch" doesn't have that negative colouring like in Western Europe. The original word "vidyma" is from older slavik word "vidaty" - meaning "to know". So originally they're more like daughters of nature, knowing it the best - they can heal, they can curse, they can make the land fertile, they can make it waste etc. And you know what they say - every woman is a witch, but some of them hide it well :)

I have looked through the comments and I wanted to note some aspects that seemed not discussed. Ukrainians do traditionally have this mystic view of life. It gets mixed even into the traditions linked to celebrations for Orthodox church. For instance, in the clip itself you could see painted eggs traditionally made for Easter - usually very intricate ones, as a rule meaning protection and faith. Jumping over the fire - traditions of Ivana Kupala in summer. The poem mentions also things holy in the tradition - land, rye, children, obviously. So every picture in the video brings associations to the Ukrainian viewer.
