Enho Akira is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler, he is famous for being one of the smallest wrestlers of all time in the higher division of Sumo. In a sport where average Sumo wrestler weights ~150 kg (330lb) with height of 168 cm (5 ft 6 in) and weight of ~98 kg (216lb) Enho has to work twice as hard in his matches. He became fan favorite for his never say die attitude, technical skills, speed and agility that is rarely seen amongst bigger Sumo wrestlers.

@lordfraybin 2 роки тому
Huh? His size IS his advantage. He doesnt have to lower his center of gravity to perform a throw. The guys hes fighting have to practically get on their knees to get below his center. That's huge in this type of wrestling. Far more important than raw strength.
@lsz6882
@lsz6882 2 роки тому
@@lordfraybin It can be advantageous in some cases but overall he just has way less options because of lower reach, weight and strength and kinda has to rely on gimmicks to score wins which higher level opponents will adapt to fairly quickly

@@lsz6882 Lower weight yes. Strength? Not so sure about that. My judo instructor used to make me throw one of our other instructors, a guy who was 6.3 and 240ib. To my 5.7 and 114, to reinforce the idea that "size doesnt matter" if you're using proper technique. He wasnt wrong.

@@lordfraybin So there's some techniques where strength isn't that important however there's a lot of them where strength and size is a requirement, for example he could never pick an opponent up and carry him out of bounds, even pushing them out is way harder. Sumo is very much about versatility and adaptation. If you're that limited in terms of techniques you're able to use, stronger opponents will be able to exploit that consistently after having faced it and seen it a couple of times. There's a reason why Enho currently fighting in division 2 is still a rare outlier when it comes to size.
@ziyaerolklc2649
@ziyaerolklc2649 Рік тому
I thought because of his size he would rely on perfect technique and execution, which he does and also performs, but he is also immensely strong for his size. The way he tosses his opponents into the air lifting them up that effortlessly is mind boggling. His timing is outstanding as well.

Shonen characters definitely can be good role models sometimes especially when there are so few for young boys. Goku was my original inspiration as kid getting into martial arts to try to push my limits as far as I could just to see how far I go. I grew up wrestling and i coach a bit nowadays. Love this. Simple and effective wrestling here. His handfighting is active and he his feet are rarely stagnant. Headclubs, underhooks, lots of movement. Circling quick when receiving pressure, and taking scoring opportunities when he cuts the corner. Positioning on the snatch single is solid and he doesnt waste any time finishing. He turns the corner upon taking the single, drives, and shifts opps weight to his free leg. when he was caught in whatever the sumo version of a front headlock is called, he handled it very well. He is expected to wind up here occasionally given his height, and while its not the most advantageous position to be in, he works through it. He stays calm, fights hands, circles out, and digs an underhook of sorts in some of the examples. Taking his opps tie, and making it his. At 5:03 he stays tight on his opps elbow to be stable under the pressure (and that balance was crazy). Id imagine he's spent so much time in front headlocks, explaining why he has a great feel for them. Good stuff! And lastly... the guy even went for a flying squirrel at 10:47 😂my god While all forms of grappling have their own specific techniques and unique challenges, there is always some sort of carryover (usually) (Sorry, im unfamiliar with sumo wrestling terminology😢)

Enho is Amazing! I am so happy that he has Hakuho as his teacher and mentor! In the Mongolian national wrestling called Buh there are many special throwing and winning techniques of shorter wrestlers. His technique is to use a lower centre of gravity, as well as using their own force against them, his fast speed allows him to react quicker in using their own force against them. So essentially if they lean one way he will turn it into a type of throw quite quickly, and with is lower centre of gravity it also helps. He is certainly using technique over raw power, he isn't taking them out by meeting force with force.

Enho, more than most, needs the crowd, and a noisy one at that. When the crowd was not there his performances were generally lacklustre, and he no longer seemed to believe in himself. Also, the first couple of basho a lot of the bigger rikishi (that was almost all of them) regarded him as a joke and the easiest points they were ever going to get. It was when they started to take him seriously and as a dangerous opponent worthy of study that he started to lose regularly. I can't wait to see him back where he belongs, in maegashira. Once there, he might be able to get to Komusubi if the gods are smiling on him but I can't see him being able to hold that rank for more than a couple of basho.
