My parents were the same. They kept asking me for money when they knew I had money to help pay for some of my siblings college tuitions, even though they knew I had my own debts for my own schooling to pay off. I reluctantly gave them the money, promising they would pay me back. Fast forward two years, my siblings finished their schooling and the amount of times they’ve guilted money off me amounted to nearly $8000. Since my siblings have finished school, I reminded my parents that they still have yet to pay me back. They kept promising me that they would, but days became weeks, weeks became months, so I was pretty much convinced they were dragging it out until I decided to drop it. Believe me, I didn’t. Instead, I plotted. My parents were very religious, and were very active in their church. I myself am no longer religious, but one day I was invited to help out an their church’s annual homeless feeding program. Just because I’m not religious doesn’t mean I’m not above helping the less fortunate. So I went. After feeding a lot of homeless folks, of course a church sermon followed as it was organized by the church. And as if god himself knew, the opportunity to get my money back was dropped onto my lap. The pastor giving the sermon was preaching about the consequences of not giving back when generosity is given. Seeing the similarities in his preaching and my predicament, I volunteered to share my own story. I was invited by the pastor to the stage and I laid it all out!! I exposed every moment my parents and siblings guilted me into lending them money with the promise of paying me back. I didn’t hold back and humiliated them in front of their fellow church friends! I will never forget the looks on everyone’s faces as they turned their gazes onto my family with disgust for exploiting my generosity. I had them! 😈 To salvage their reputation, and knowing that I will never let them forget it, my parents handed me a check for $8000 exactly. And to be sure that it wont bounce, I made them come with me to the bank to deposit it. Since it’s illegal to knowingly write a bad check, they couldn’t get out of it. I got my money back, and with it found an apartment for myself, moved out without them knowing, and have completely cut all contact!

Get your own back, OP! Read your mom’s private letters! If she tells you off and says “That’s private!”. “So is my diary! You have decreed that there’s no such thing in this household as privacy! It works both ways! If you can read my private diary, I can read your private mail!”. Happened with us - no diaries or journals here - just letters! My mother felt it appropriate to read our incoming post - particularly to do with applications for jobs - my second youngest sister had applied for a job - while we were out (presumably signing on) - when we got back, my mam said to sis something about her not getting that job - when sis asked how mam knew about it, sis got presented with a letter addressed to her that she hadn’t opened, yet somehow, it had been opened! Sis got her own back - some time later, mam got a letter that sis opened (she got to the post first) - went so far as to read it (permissible, under the rules) - then presented it to mam - mam said “That’s private!”. “Exactly! PRIVATE! So are our letters!”. Never opened any of our post again!

For the first story, you can 100% sue someone for not paying back money that they owe you, and $12,000 is a huge amount that would definitely go to court, even if it is between the parents and child. That’s what I believe OP should do. If their parents took advantage of them like that and are using petty excuses to not pay them back, then make them regret it so they don’t cross them again.
@lamarshealey3332
@lamarshealey3332 Рік тому
They need to move out first then sue
@tylergartner4069
@tylergartner4069 Рік тому
You can't sue for money owed unless you have a written and signed contract that states you, "y" gave "x" a loan of "$ amount" and "x" agrees to pay "y" back for the loan over a period of time. Unfortunately a loan done in good faith or a loan made without any written documentation or recorded proof of verbal contract is just that, it's a loan you expect to be payed back based on trust but there is no legally binding contract to guarantee it. Therfore unless the persons are willing to be honest in court and admit to owing you the money you really don't have any recourse without proof to support your case.
@phazekiller5701
@phazekiller5701 Рік тому
@@tylergartner4069 It's also just a headache, honestly this is why I never give more than 500, I can take a 500 L but above that's too much for me to stomach. As far as family type loans go I always make sure my needs are met before giving those out, I already know I won't get any of that back. Those types of loans are more less gifts and this is a harsh lesson into reality. When you start collecting money from family they start going over everything they've ever done for you, so at the end of the day keep your finances to yourself and pretend you're poor so they never bother you. This is by far the best way to avoid these types of people and keep yourself a float...

Story 1: Should've got it writing, not verbal.... we see this so often. $200 is too much to loan, much less $12,000. Story 2: This ex-gf, and some friends, are just nuts. She clearly doesn't give a crap about the OP and just wants the vacay. Story 3: She's more neglectful, then she is entitled. Story 4: That (bad!) mom is a complete nutjob, and a big reason why you shouldn't keep a dairy/journal, and if you do, have it under lock and key. Story 5: The parents are definitely the jerks and unreasonable.... always seems to be the overly religious ones too. It seems to me that they are trying to either hold the son/bf back or find a way to financially cripple the OP along with the son/bf so that he'd have no choice/option then to stay with the parents and not be with the OP.

1st story is good example of how change in situations can lead someone who helps in great disadvantaged as there no proof he payed them at money and the could simply lie or say they already pay back if wanted but what I find interesting fact dad told not be rude or else he not going get money back which was result of money not being payed back (which make situation worst as lead to even more conflict due fact whole rudeness being cause of debt parent owed) worth noting that whole situation started because he help out and I pretty sure parents are actually in money trouble from sound of it as sound like they barely make enough money to support themselves also I got ask how many siblings does he have at home.

As the mother of a 20 year old. Yes teens need some privacy but their are certain times when too much privacy can lead to neglecting issues that could be nipped in the bud quickly and can spin out of control quickly. My son knows I have my opinions and I will always make them known that’s my job but I will listen understanding and try to give the best advice I can. I made a point to not “lose it” over things even if they upset me. If you ever loan money more than $25, always write up a contract with a minimum monthly payment amount and a fair but firm deadline to have it all paid back, also documenting that they can't miss more than 2 payments. Then make copies, one for them and one as a backup, a digital one on secure storage and keep the original for yourself in a safe location. If they refuse to sign, then refuse the loan. If they don't pay, a court will make them pay. You don't have to charge interest since you're not a bank, but doing this will guarantee that they can't back out of paying it back or claim it was a gift. It's completely OK to say no to family and if someone is really in need, then they shouldn't borrow more than they can pay back within 2 years. $12,000 is definitely an amount that can be paid back in 2 years by 2 people. That's $500 a month or $250 between them. Completely doable.

First story. OP lends parents $12,000 dollars two months ago. They all just moved to another state. Needing the money to pay for house, bond, and rent. They have no debts or mortgages. Dad does work, but mom gets money from government (probably disability, I'm on that myself and it ain't a whole lot). OP says themselves that their parents only have enough money for living and not enough to improve the house. OP says they had wanted to buy a car for their dream job. Yet later OP states they are living at home and has said they just moved to another state. While Narrator states OP is 18. What dream job is this? OP says their parents won't pay him back. And won't discuss a payment plan. Pay the OP back with what? OP them self said their parents only have enough money to live. There is a lot of this story that makes no sense. As such I think we are hearing a lot of made up stuff that OP thinks improves their case. Like OP saying they have no mortgage or debts. Ok maybe they don't, but what was the Bond and Rent for then? They just moved according to OP and OP gave them the money 2 months ago and OP says they only make enough to live. What person believes the parents have $12,000 just sitting there after all that and that short of a time? And a payment plan? With what again? If the OP is telling the truth then the parents have little to no money to give them, so how can they do a payment plan? It sounds to me that this is a kid that just became an adult and since his parents always paid him back (a struggling family sign) before, the OP thinks it is just that easy to do it now. Not realizing that the parents may never be able to pay that back and at least not for years.

Story #1: Perfect example of why you need contracts when lending big amounts of money! Would they be acting like this if it was a loan from the bank? I mean they could! But then they'd get whatever they put of as collateral taken away! Story #2: It sounds like dude at least WAS your typical, blue pill, Captain Save A 304, nice guy. Who she THOUGHT would be ready and willing to come running back, whenever she called! Remember, women don't respect weakness. And if they don't respect you, how are they ever gonna love you?

I know it’s a bit late but when loaning out that much should’ve had it in writing that they would pay you back, even if it is in instalments

For the second story I was first rhinking the mom had autism as the way she was acting was the same way my cousin with autism acts in situations like that but when he brought up how she payed him and then she started arguing with the dad I threw that idea out as people with autism doesn't do that. Ie they don't argue with people as they don't speak a lot and thy don't have much emotions to express

That mother who spied on their kid and read their diary is also an awful Catholic. The girl could have used that in Confession. It's a meeting between her and a priest where in the end she is forgiven of her sins. That guilt would be gone. But she needs to go based on her own decision with the intent that she does want to grow closer to God. It's really personal and it's never used as ammunition against her. As a matter of fact, that ammunition is taken away. So yes, she is a terrible mother and a horrible representation of the Roman Catholic faith.
