Michigan did look like the better team but it looked like they were going to incur a loss from self-inflicted mistakes. In classic Alabama fashion they were disciplined and made very few mistakes (The ones they did make were costly). But Michigan definitely seemed to wake up down the stretch and started playing with the team we thought we were going to see all game I think the teams were pretty close though.

If Alabama's line executed well it would've been at best a 50/50. But that obviously wasn't the case. With how their line was playing, I would say it was a bad call to even attempt it. Rolling Milroe with an option to pass or run was what I was expecting. #GoBlue

He's got a point about the timing. Jalen was just a half second slow and that was enough for him to get stopped instead of having time to evade tackles with a cut to the left on his lineman's hip. And I say this as a UofM diehard fan. Alabama stopped themselves. They just weren't good enough.

I’ll disagree that this was a walk in touchdown. The Michigan defender he was talking about would have recovered easily to make the tackle or at least hit him well before the end zone. The difference with that QB running that play compared to the other successful times in the game was that the defense blew up the entire line this time. They had a defender on either side that had him if he bounced out, the WRs were covered tight, and the RB in motion which was probably his only option was covered. The real problem was that the QB is one sided, at least in that game anyway, and it was predictable to even the average fan let alone a defense coordinator. So let's stop blaming one play on an Alabama loss and also realize that Michigan's top defense kept them in the game. Alabama was gifted field position on the first TD and so many mistakes were made on individual plays for Mich throughought the game. These are just young men playing a game, time to move on.

The last play, there wasn't inches for a walk-in TD. The middle of the hash marks was too congested. The 300 lb linemen (2) & even if Milroe is right behind them, Milroe & more importantly, the ball never breaks the plane of the goal line. That's the thing about humans, they tale up space and if both Bama linemen aren't in the endzone, Milroe has wait for those 2 players to clear the area. And with that time, Michigan's defense collapsed behind them and Milroe was at least 2 yards short of scoring on the play. It wasn't even close really. From the 3 at best he gets to the 2 yard line trying to push that congestion into a score. The Bama linemen walked into the endzone, Michigan's defense collapsed the middle behind those Bama OL. They can go anywhere on the field, they don't have the ball. It was like holiday traffic backed up on an interstate, gridlock for Milroe, he couldn't even push his own players into the end zone. Michigan had already collapsed & wrapped up the QB. It was a poor play call. Now had it been the Philly "Tush-Push" or "Brotherly Shove", that call stands a chance, not in shot gun formation. Bama would've had to create space in the center of the line as more of a pass play & QB keeper.

Issue wasn't the playcall at all. All the credit goes to Michigan's d-line. Milroe had burned Michigan more than once running the ball, whether on a qb draw or busted pass play. Michigan had largely shut down both the passing and run game from Alabama. Milroe running the ball was one of the few reliable parts of Alabama's offense during the game. Even with the low snap, had Alabama's o-line done what they needed to do, we would have seen a second OT. Michigan's defensive line came through and clutched up when they needed to.

You don’t “finish” (Saban’s favorite word) and put a game away by scoring 0 points in the Fourth Qtr. OT should have never been a factor. Plus I disagree with deferring in OT - setting yourself up to have to play from behind only increases the pressure and risks the whole game coming down to executing 1 play, which is exactly what happened. Tommy Reece called a lousy game overall.
@markreierstad2418
@markreierstad2418 3 місяці тому
It makes more sense when you see it that way. Of course, the low snap didn't help. And give UM's "no-name" dl credit. In retrospect, it was good that Michigan struggled so much in this game. I think it was a wake-up call because of the self-inflicted wounds. If they had cruised to an easy victory, they might not have done so well against Washington.

Hasselbeck is wrong about the position of #0 Sainristil on Bama's last play -- his looping angle left him enough leverage if Milroe had cut left to follow the pulling guard, and he is Michigan's best open-field tackler.

I'm not sure the pulling lineman, #77, gets his hands on the Michigan defender #9. And #0 is back tracking fast. It would have been close but Milroe may have had to dive from like the 2 or 3. Michigan still gets the stop. And you have to account for #8 for Michigan who looks to be in control of his block. #8 could have stepped up if Milroe tried to cut it out.
