What a disappointment it must have been to Netherlands to go out in the quarterfinal against Russia, when they had just beat both France and Italy so convincingly!

This is the most beautiful final tournament I saw and I have been watching final tournaments since 1990. Russia(Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko what players!), Croatia (introduced us Modric and Rakitic), Netherlands (would play the next world cup final with Sneijder, Roben, van Persie, Kuyt, van der Vaart and van Nistelrooy), Check Republic (Nedved retired, but they still had Koller, Baros or Plasil) and Turkey (yes, Turkey were the champions of the hearts with Nihat, Arda, Tuncay, Emre or Kazim) played great football. Italy - the world champion - was still great, Germany was Germany and Spain 2008 (with Xavi, Iniesta, David Villa, Torres, David Silva, Marcos Sena, Puyol and the others) is the most beautiful champion I saw, more beautiful even than Spain 2010 or Spain 2012. 13 years ago. wow still remember. was a 12 year old kid. I remember the Turkey vs Croatia game. I was rooting for Turkey and it was the last moments of the game my father stood up and went to sleep and i told my father that i am gonna stay till the end and miracle happened... Turkey scored in the very last moment of the game. back then evertyhing was good....... good childhood memories.. btw no one dominated football at that time playerwise... it was fun to watch football at that time. it feels like football has changed.. i do not know how it changed but it surely changed a lot. the golden era of football from 2002-2008.

Not sure if this is true or not but here's a story I remember hearing at the time. After Turkey's defeat against Portugal in the first game, Turkey's coach called the players' mothers and apparently, the mothers yelled at them because of their poor performance. From that moment onward Turkey was phenomenal. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Turkey's game against Germany was even brighter in retrospective because Turkey was missing several players due to injury and cards.

watching this euro2008 as 10 year old Turkish boy was amazing. it showed me at a young age that anything is possible in football. we were 2-0 down in 75min against the Czech Republic and turned it around to then one up that performance and beat Croatia by penalties after conceding a goal in the 119th min and scoring in the 120th. to this day my fondest memory regarding football.

Looking at this in 2019 in they say Ronaldo was in his prime 2008. Longest prime of all time

I watched every game from that Tournament and my opinion is that Spain,Croatia,Russia and the Netherlands were the best Teams at that Euro. Spain was untouchable und played beautiful football. The game against Italy in the QF was the only bad game but both teams played very careful. Croatia faced England and Russia in the Qualifiers for that Euro and ended up being the Group Winner defeating England 2x 2:0 and the Legendary 2:3 away win on Wembley and knocked England out. They dominated Russia but both games ended 0:0. They struggled a bit against Austria but outclassed Germany 2:1 and Turkey. However their best player Eduardo at that time was injured. Croatia dominated Turkey even hit the bar and missed a lot of chances then they scored the goal in 119th minute but received the equalizer in the 122 minute and lost on penalties. Hardest loss in Croatian History and absolutely unlucky. Russia as i said tied with Croatia and also defeated England 2:1 during the qualifying. Then they destroyed Netherlands 3:1 and this Netherlands destroyed World Cup Winner Italy 3:0 und World Cup runner up France 4:1! Insane Euro!. Turkeys run was incredible but they had more luck instead of skill. Lost against Portugal, barely defeated Switzerland in the last minutes, Cech made 2 incredible mistakes and gave Turkey the ticket for the Quarterfinales. In the QF Turkey was outclassed by Croatia and they had their second shot on goal in the 122 minute which was lucky again and helped them win the penalties. However they had to play without a lot of First 11 Players but the first time in that tournament Turkey played great football it was against Germany however it was rüstüs fault that germany won. Still Turkey played with a lot of passion. Germany was lucky as well. They defeated a weak Poland, lost against Croatia and barely defeated Austria however their only great performence was against Portugal 3:2. Turkey played better in the SF but Germany was lucky because of Rüstüs faults. Other than that it was a great Euro!

Turkey played with a lot of heart and passion and i loved it. But Russia played very attractive and intelligent football. What they did to Netherlands was utter murder. It's only logical that Spain defeated them twice

Well that was enjoyable. I don't think I've seen any of these games or highlights. I wasn't aware of the winners either so it was good to have the pleasure of not knowing too. Fascinating to see Ronaldo playing at the top level for Portugal and still playing even better twelve years later! That lad really looks after his body very carefully.
