Isn't this true? I thought it was like flying through our galaxy. I could not even tell a single sign in the stars, since they were so many, though I can see here which zodiac or so is above us. It felt as if my heart was ripped out of my chest, such a longing I felt. I would love to know if normally climbers care about that sky at all, or if they only think about 'I paid for the mountain and will finish it'. This guy here seems to be no a sad. I loved the fact he showed that Sherpa first It took me for him ( don't know of you understand what I mean, I cannot translate this phrase better).

@Barbara Mulvaney What you're seeing in this video is the culmination of meticulous planning, dozens of combined years and summit experience and an elite team all around. The guides and the Sherpa team are coordinating it like a military operation. Notice no one is around? Notice no one is on the summit? What traffic? Notice you also have commercial clients featured in the images. Everyone summited, everyone descended safely, all of the Sherpas were extremely well paid and the relationship with the Sherpas and western guides was deeply respectful and symbiotic. On top of that, I was roped into the mix as a one person film crew with my right hand man and dear friend, PK Sherpa. We split up, I sat on the Hillary Step alone to shoot this sequence and he stayed back to shoot the rear angle. Teamwork every step of the way. We planned this sequence two months out. We also shot a 12-part reality TV series that season, broadcast to thousands of kids in North America in schools and shot time-lapse every night. It all came together on the final day and it all went off without a single hitch. And when the weather turned on descent, we all worked together to navigate it and got everyone down the mountain. Not everyone is the worst case scenario of Everest and its sensationalism. We deeply respect our Sherpa comrades and brothers and acknowledge their mountain, their country, their expertise and treat the situation like a collaborative privilege. Working together is why we keep going back. We're friends and we're all in it together. Everest is a complex industry and has its serious issues, but please do keep in mind that there is also ALOT of good going on up there and we are the first to acknowledge we could not do this without all of the local people, n'or would we want to. And to @winterweib - most of us who have seen the beauty and felt the majestic night skies and the transformative energy of the mountain are forever changed. You learn that the summit pales in comparison to the depth and beauty of the journey. And the nights skies, especially for me, are everything. Have a look at some of my other timelapse work. I think you'll enjoy it. The aesthetics of how you climb matter. I hope you see if for yourself one day.

My very thoughts. If am not at all interested in climbing. But to see this sky... I watched these seconds again and again. I long to see this. It must be as if you are in space. So near to the stars... I would think I fly to them. I got wet eyes. I long so much to be able to fly through Milky Way since I can remember. I never thought how sky looks from Himalaya. It was unreal. I cannot imagine to see it. And I cannot imagine how it must feel to know when morning comes you have to say good bye to this heaven.

Its very brave what you guys have achieved but we shouldn't do that . Now its a new trip or or destination route for the mountaineers to climb on The Mount EVEREST . BUT don't you guys think we shoul leave the nature by itself so that i can't be polluted by us , its like we are helping the global warming in MELTING the GLACIERS with a faster speed by climbing it again n again . EVEREST plays a very significant and important role in the ECOSYSTEM , specially for ASIA , for example it is the only reason for the monsoon in India and many asian countries and the weather in which we are living right now . So please think about it and take some measures to do the right thing .... Thank you

@@kkinzalZOOBA if y'all seriously gave a fuck about Asia specifically Southeast Asia you'd tell them to quit dumping 300 million metric tons of plastic into the ocean yearly and reduce their engine emissions. Proven by science if just China and India stopped driving harmful global emissions would go down 40 percent. 40 fucking percent... Just 2 countries.. just wondering? have you been to the great Mother and reached her summit? just wondering cause of your post where you say you remember , which tells me you left camp 4 at midnight, and are you going back? cause you might have to be quick, things have really changed in Nepal concerning everest , with garbage and sewerage there, not to mention all the corpses lining the way to the summit, and thats why all the sherpas are now saying they are not climbing cause they deeply fear all the ghosts of those who have died and blame them for not saving them, even those sherpas as you know have died trying to save their lives, and they didnt listen to the sherpas world renowned expert advice , no other can claim to be experts when they are on everest , only the sherpas, dont listen to the sherpas on everest , then your in the right place for the whole world to see your the biggest fool in the world at its highest point, so be quick , you could be a lucky one before they shut it down for good.

Lowell Calavera So.... You don’t get historical context? In 1978 Messner and Habeler were the first to climb Everest without supplemental O2. Messner went back in 1980 with his girlfriend, she stayed at base camp while he climbed the North Face solo. He was alone on the upper mountain, probably the last time in Everest history. An Everest summit used to mean something, now it’s mostly an adventure vacation for wealthy clients with lines backing up at the South Summit.

@@infiniteendless1397 you can pursue your mountaineering course from mountaineering school. Just google it and apply. There are around 5-6 mountaineering school. It's a 1 month course. And then there are some trekking companies online available who helps in summit or you can simply go to Nepal hire the Sherpas and go for the summit. Summit program is also of around 15-20 days or can increase more as per weather conditions. Training will be provided by Sherpas and then you can proceed with them .

Unfortunately this beautiful film will probably only increase the interest in masses of people becoming involved in what has become just a spectacle and an assault on things better left alone. And I’m a rock climber so I understand the motivation and the joy of climbing. But when your sport and your passion for the outdoors ends up destroying the object of your desire you need to back off. Not all climbers (or hikers, mountain bikers, fishing enthusiasts, snowboarders, etc) are naturalists but many, if not most, are, and they understand this. Those who are there to celebrate the mountain can deny themselves the pleasure when they see it’s gotten out of hand. Those who are there to celebrate themselves find that self restraint much harder.

There is a lot of backlash to balance the enthusiasm of climbing Everest. Some see it as an ultimate challenge. Others a vainglorious pursuit of self gratification / glorification .There is no doubt climbing Everest is controversial, as each side has very valid points. It's not easy , but with money guides and keepers it's easier. It's an ultimate challenge that leaves bodies, garbage and human waste on what is considered a sacred mountain. It provides Sherpas with an income hardly any job can match in Nepal, but it might leave them dead. Both sides of the argument are pretty polarized .

Not to mention setting up setting up the time-lapses overnight. You're an inspiration!

Farmed food thousands of years after it was done without it; fixed places of living; governments making all decisions. Everything that is modern day life was once difficult or the instruments making it easier did not exist. What do humans have to prove and to whom? We can survive by making life difficult, yet we don't. Similarly, there is nothing wrong in these mountaineers using some equipment and professional help.

The point is, and it's a personal one, in my book they are not real mountaineers. They have not learned their craft, they pay others who have. They are in the same club as all those tourists who are guided up Kilimanjaro. It's not about gear, it's about knowledge, skill, decision-making and self-reliance.

Seriously? The last year without a fatality on Everest was 1977 ... it's insanely hard to do even with modern technology and experience guides ... it's punishing on your body if you have not spent your life at high altitudes. So yeah ... it's an accomplishment that you can be proud of.
