It’s not Russ’ fault he didn’t fit with LBJ and AD because of spacing, but if he was committed to winning, then he’d embrace owning the second unit and not trying to be what he isn’t. He must be stressed in this situation and that isn’t helping his game, but unless he takes the second unit and sits to finish games, the lakers won’t win. It’s up to his ego if he will do it or not. The ‘ouchy my hamstring because I don’t know how to come off the bench’ was sad and lame and if he wants to be remembered for the good things he’s done, then he has to toughen up. He’s earning almost 50 smackeroonies and is a public figure so some heat from the media and fans is not unreasonable.

Listen just to be real for a second, Russ is actually an incredible player, truly one of the best all time, but he is horribly inefficient as a shooter, especially from 3, 3rd in all time turnovers and actually number 1 all time in turnovers per game. He definitely deserves criticism, because while he is an amazing player who does a lot of things right, he also takes a lot of awful shots and turns ball over a ton. It feels like every other good play he makes, he does something boneheaded instead. I do think he gets too much hate, but he definitely deserves criticism.

The Brodie is my favourite player ever, I think there's much more to being an NBA star than simply putting up numbers (which he also did for a long time), like being someone ppl enjoy actually watching. I respect Curry and the whole GSW team, but their style of ball is just boring after a few minutes. Watching Russ and the pre 2016 OKC team play was so much more engaging, much more action packed. His athleticism is pretty much unmatched, and his energy on the court was just out of this world. The type of guy that makes you jump up from the sofa whenever he attacks the basket. Sad to see him being treated so badly, I always thought he would get his ring sooner than later.

For me it was OKC with Melo and PG13. He would jack up stupid shots in clutch time situations while PG and Melo (probably one of the most clutch shooters) were left WIDE open. He does deserve the hate but he dererved it much MUCH sooner!

I am a 4 decade lifer lakers fan. westbrick played for the worst team in the nba and then kevin durant left got a lot of good stats just caring about his stats. he has 0 championships. hes the most high played player in the nba when he came to the lakers and the highest paid in laker history. youre right about one thing he should have never came to the lakers and should have been traded...to a low market team that wont watch him in the G league. probably the worst thing that has ever happened to the lakers franchise.

He's going to play like this on the jazz. He's always been bad. Being on the lakers didn't make him bad, it just exposed him for what he really is. The spotlight was there, expectations were high, and he got exposed for the turnover, bad handling, stat padding, bad shooting, no fundamental, street ball player he is.

Excuse me, do you realize that any player on the team especially the starting 5 make more money than almost all of their fans combined in a year? They play horrid and Russ plays a big part in that. They deserve harsh criticism, and I can understand Lakers fans who pay good money to come to the arena to see them play only to be presented with a huge dumpster fire instead of a proper game of basketball. Now to Westbrook, he is in his 15th season. By that time many other players managed to get at least a decent 3 point shot in their arsenal, like Jason Kidd or Brook Lopez. Westbrook on the other hand seems to never even consider the possibility that his athleticism and motor will start to wane too much at a certain point, which is now, and he will not be able to merely rely on his athleticism anymore. Oscar Robertson had maybe on paper "only" one triple double season, but in reality, he "missed" it several times by the tiniest of margins of anywhere 0.3 to 0.1 either in assists and in rebounds. Furthermore, for a perimeter player back then it was far harder to score thanks to the lack of a three-point line and the paint being clogged by big men. Robertson also played in the golden age of centres with three top 5/10 players of all time, Russell, Wilt and Kareem dominating the league, on top of top-notch centres like Bellamy and Thurmond being around. On top of all of that assists were given much more stringent back then, a single dribble would void it unlike today, and Robertson was not a stat padder, unlike Russ who padded especially his rebounds on many occasions. His double-digit assists are also not all that impressive considering that the majority are kick outs from his drives, the most basic play for any point guard. His passing is not better than for example Bird despite Bird "only" averaging between 7-8 during his prime. If Bird is too old, the likes of Luka and Jokic are easily better passers despite lower assist numbers on the stat sheet. Raw numbers rarely if ever tell the whole story. Actually, almost never. People make fun of LeBron affecting trades but let us not forget that his involvement got 3 different franchises rings. So, while the judgement on trading for Westbrook was bad, the ridiculous "LeGM" mockery is ill placed considering that "LeGM" does in fact hold 4 rings and has the highest amount of finals appearances of any player in league history. And if you think that is a negative, that would mean that you think that a player getting bounced before the finals is somehow "better" than someone who managed to "only" get second place.

I think Westbrook is amazing and has been for quite a while.

Sad to see the abuse but that's the spotlight for you. He should play for a team that's happy to reach the playoffs and have little hope of winning it all, like when he was in a small market like OKC. His style has never been a winning one as he's inefficient, high volume offense, including terrible percentages everywhere, even at the rim which most people think was his strong side. His D has always been terrible and after he started his triple double chase, he stopped defending 3's, cuts and drives. His best defensive stretch has been the games he has come off the bench for the Lakers and that is probably a sign he wants to stay relevant and be an asset. It's ironic that he's doing the Carmello and refusing to adapt to a role where he can help his team win. In short, Russ is very overrated as a superstar and he would be a better player if he played like Philly's version of Ben Simmons. At least he defended and did not dominate the ball and shoot 20 bad shots a game 😅
