Welcome to Part 2 of my Vilnius food adventure! In this video, I take you on a gastronomic journey through the vibrant culinary scene of Vilnius, Lithuania. Indulge in the delightful flavors of Lokys, where their signature pink soup (Šaltibarščiai) will captivate your taste buds and leave you wanting another bowl.
Part 1 Here: • Everything I ate in Vi...
As a coffee lover, I couldn't resist visiting some of the charming coffee shops scattered throughout Vilnius. These cozy establishments offer a perfect blend of aromatic coffee and cozy ambiance, making them an ideal spot to relax and recharge during my 72-hour food exploration.
But it's not just about the food! I also had the opportunity to visit the Museum of Occupation and Freedom Rights, where I learned about the important history of Lithuania. The museum offers a profound insight into the country's struggles and triumphs, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in understanding what makes Lithuanians such a resilient nation today.
Finally, the highlight of my culinary journey was dining at Dziaugsmas Restoranas, perhaps the best restaurant in town. Prepare to be amazed by their innovative and exquisitely presented dishes, crafted with the finest local ingredients. This dining experience at Dziaugsmas Restoranas truly exceeded all my expectations and left me with unforgettable memories.
Join me on this incredible food expedition through Vilnius and discover the hidden gems of the city's culinary landscape. Whether you're a food enthusiast, a history buff, or simply looking for travel inspiration, this video promises to take you on a whirlwind tour of flavors, sights, and culture.

It wasn't yogurt in the soups. It was grietinė. Similar to crème fraîche. Glad you enjoyed your visit. :)

Thanks for your comment. Indeed, we had some discussion about this - we managed to find kefir in London, and I hope that would suffice. I haven't tried making it with creme fraiche so far, maybe I will give it a go, but the kefir makes a really good soup. :)
@oddoni
@oddoni 9 місяців тому
@@Priscilla.writing Just to be clear. Kefir is for the cold beet soup. It's one of the ingredients. You said there was yogurt in one of the other soups you've tried (and one of the soups from part 1 in Vilnius). Grietinė is just a common condiment over here. Used in soups as you've experienced (and used liberally on pretty much anything people can think of) but it also usually accompanies the other well known Lithuanian dish - cepelinai (zeppelins ie potato dumplings) that you may have encountered in menus on your visit or when doing research on your trip. Grietinė is usually translated as sour cream in English but I'm not sure that it's the same thing. I believe creme fraiche is a closer equivalent. Should be readily available in Eastern European shops across London. Slavic languages equivalent of grietinė is smetana. It may also be available under that name. :)

@@Priscilla.writing"kefyras" ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kefir ) is used for cold beat soup, the thing that you called yogurt everytime is "grietinė" ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sour_cream ) :)

The restaurant Džiaugsmas is amazing and it's chef extraordinary. Simple, sincere and genius. Another amazing restaurant on the same level is Ertlio Namas, which serves historical Lithuanian dishes with a modern twist.

@Priscilla.writing 11 місяців тому
@@cooler1213thanks for your comment! For the beet soup, it's definitely kefir, as the locals I spoke to as well as recipes i found online (and eventually replicated at home), all calls for kefir. maybe it's indeed sour cream for the other ones, it's so light. I wish I could recreate the sorrel soup in my first video, that's actually my favourite. I must look up what sorrel is. This is the first video: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/eo-BqKSApp2XqXU.html

@@reaplikacija fatty kefir! Like whole milk? That’s very interesting as in the UK, we don’t have that many different types of kefir. Maybe I’ll try to find a Lithuanian groceries in London. It’s getting hot in here, so this soup will be PERFECT. and it’s only been a month, I already miss Vilnius.

Michelin doesn't come to a country unless the government pays Michelin a LOT of money. Restaurant reviews are currently not a priority for the government, aš any spare money Lithuania has goes to help Ukraine win the war. Hopefully the war will end soon and Lithuania can pay Michelin to visit our wonderful restaurants. I believe there are at least 10 which could get stars.
