About my videos: These videos are a resource for anyone wishing to wake up from the dream of separation. Awakening, enlightenment, and liberation are becoming far more mainstream possibilities than they once were. There are many good teachers out there, and if you resonate with the teachings of Eckhart Tolle, Rupert Spira, or Sadhguru, you might find resources here that address these deeper promptings to investigate your true nature.

Just look at the 12 steps of AA. if one truly follow those you’ll get to awaken. I got sober in 1997 and 6 months later my husband left me with a 2 and 7 yo to raise on my own. Fortunately , within the first 6 months I fell in love with the support AA gave me. I managed to not take a drink. I literally physically felt my heart breaking. I acted out, I raged at him , became suicidal but I didn’t drink. I stayed active in AA until 2015. That’s when I picked up marijuana( knowing full well I was on my way back to addiction). After returning from your retreat I knew I had to stop. Mostly it was a habit that I partook in the evenings,but I knew I’d never reach becoming truly awake. Believe me January was very challenging for me. But I knew that from watching you, reading books by Richard Rohr and many others that this habit was standing in the way. I’ve begun to have a desire to take care of myself again. I still struggle but I’m doing it. Glad to have the opportunity to sit in the sunshine of the spirit again. Thank you Angelo.

So true Angelo. I think all addiction is trying to get release/relief from the unrelenting onslaught of self/mind thought. It is an absolute torture. I totally quit alcohol a little over a year ago. I knew I was using it as an escape and true awakening only gets blocked by the alcohol. God bless all who struggle with any addiction. Our culture is currently rampant with addictions.

Have walk the road of addictions for many years. One thing came to me while listening to you, I knew I couldn't control neither thoughts nor emotions, it's been close to 20 years ago, but if I remember, I wasn't just running from my failure and wanting for alcohol to take my mind away like you said, but moreover, I knew/felt/saw, and I wanted to bury this silent knower, witnessing the misery of my ego and his weakness to flee in alcohol. It seems looking back, like my ego wanted to get drunk from the mind, and while simultaneously, ( I ) wanted to get drunk from my out of control ego.... at least, it felt like this at the time. Having had an awakening early in life, it seems more like a cursed, because now I really knew something had to change to allow the awakening to follow through. Thirty years of hell was all my ego could take 😵 I must admit, he was one stubborn Mother F. 💙🙏

It’s not my experience that alcohol quiets the mind. I mean it does to a degree. But the urge to ‘escape’, which is what drinking is, is really a drive to escape from an uncomfortable sensation. Now, if one defines ‘mind’ as feeling as well as thought, then I agree with you. However, if the body is at peace, then it’s pretty much irrelevant what the thoughts are. To me, it seems that thoughts are reactionary and follow the body. Drinking calms or desensitises the feelings of the body. The thoughts slow or stop as a result of this calming. That is how it appears to be in my experience. Thanks for all the sharing you do, it is so incredibly powerful, some of the best content on UKposts ❤

Thanks 🙏 the relief of dropping out of the mind and into the body. Still uncomfortable and painful at times, but such a relief. And such a feeling of compassion towards that younger version of myself. He didn't have the capacity to feel this, so of course disassociation happened. Now, it's like the whole internal family is reunited and feeling through all the sensations that weren't fully felt. And there's no practice needed to do that. And no pushing or pulling on life to be a certain way. This is already freedom.

Our family has been very affected with alcoholism and it’s been easier for me to demonise my mother than own my own addiction. Alcohol and drug addictions are the most obvious and recognized, some addictions can be more subtle and insidious. Anger can be very addictive, it gives the wielder a sense of righteousness and a feeling of superiority that feeds the ego and promotes more anger, all while suppressing rational thinking. It's a never-ending cycle of dopamine and vitriol. The worst addiction I've experienced by far is an addiction to emotional pain, it's self-sustaining because all you need to do to feed the addiction is experience more pain, and that can be done right there in your head, no external assistance required, you can relive painful memories or events on demand, and if you run out of fuel for the fire the world is more than eager to provide plenty more painful experience where those came from. Emotional pain is addictive because it draws you down into a deeper and darker place each time, and then provides a sense of relief, a return to a better state of mind. It's like beating your head repeatedly against the wall just to experience relief when you finally stop. Emotional pain can come from anywhere real or imagined, and can often be the offspring of other addictions.
@AlastairGames

Sounds like we just have to relax the mind, and feel (the body). So addictions then are just tools to relax the mind. Whereas awakening achieves this without having to be externally reliant. And in a more balanced way so you're not going highs and lows.

When going through this path, I'm noticing self trust emerging. Before there would be thoughts speaking as me and I'd be confused, dualistic experience. Recently, when I'm not identified, I see there's me and just thoughts and I can differentiate my own voice from thoughts. Does this have a name? Intuition? It comes from seeing thoughts as thoughts and not as some entity. Does it get easier at some point to be integrated with your thoughts, voice? Could you talk about this some? I feel like my mind is against me, it's not aligned, so there's like 2.

Curious. Michael Nesmith wrote the song "Rio" about his awakening (to what extent I don't know, but from reading what he said about it, it was clear what had happened). He couched it in such a way that the lyrics only obliquely point to it, but if you've tasted it, you can't help but understand what he's pointing to. Excerpts - I'm hearing the light from the window I'm seeing the sound of the sea, my feet have come loose from their moorings I'm feeling quite wonderfully free... I feel such a sense of well-being, the problems have come to be solved, and what I thought was proper for battle I see now is proper for love.

Angelo Would you say that in one way there is no such thing as psychological pain in the sense that the actual uncomfortable sensation is always bodily thus always physical, its just that with what we label as emotional pain is disassociated up into mind and narratives. Like there is nothing that can be felt anywhere other than in the body .Like what we call rage or grief is actually a bodily pain but we filter it through our minds so it seems otherwise. Whiskey River is not Willie's song. It was written by Johnny Bush and Paul Stroud. When Whiskey River was climbing up the charts Johnny Bush lost his distinctive voice for long decades. He considered it a punishment from God for his sins. He was dealing with addiction, neurological illnes and stage fright and his record label dropped him. Willie always loved his singing and supported him.
