That comment on why he felt peyote should be studied via its synthetic form instead of natural form was really well said. Kudos to him for answering and researching in a way that was respectful to what the plant means to another culture.
@dingledan1966
@dingledan1966 2 роки тому
I agree. The other side of the argument is that it's a cactus and can be grown in a controlled setting. Peyote grows very slowly, but it could be intentionally grown in large quantities. Even if native cultures are uninterested in that as a practice, it could be done for research without affecting the natural ecology. There are FACEBOOK groups devoted to respectful and responsible Lophophora williamsii cultivation. or just make it synthetically it really doesnt matter lol

Schizophrenic here. I tried, and used lsd for years during my lowest point in life, and it helped me - my hallucinations, visual and auditory, became much more bearable. Distorted human shapes and screaming women in my ceiling turned into cats running about, and whispers telling me to hurt myself turned into nothing more than unintelligible murmurs. It helped me accept myself and it opened up much needed and new thought patterns. I quit acid when I was in a better place, when it no longer benefitted me. Even though it helped me personally, I do not recommend people try it if they don't know what they're doing - and I especially do not recommend it to people with schizophrenia. I don't think it's a miracle drug or anything, rather, I believe that there are benefits and dangers when it comes to lsd. My experience is not universal.

My favorite part of the "first trip" story as told by Dr. Hofmann in his book LSD: My Problem Child, is the next day: "Exhausted, I then slept, to awake next morning refreshed, with a clear head, though still somewhat tired physically. A sensation of well-being and renewed life flowed through me. Breakfast tasted delicious and gave me extraordinary pleasure. When I later walked out into the garden, in which the sun shone now after a spring rain, everything glistened and sparkled in a fresh light. The world was as if newly created. All my senses vibrated in a condition of highest sensitivity, which persisted for the entire day."

This video is a testament to how "mainstream" and normative present-day attitudes are toward psychedelics. Even WIRED can confidently and proudly arrange and produce a video such as this one. This symbolizes a huge shift in public opinion (and de-stigmatization) of psychedelic substances. This is good news, and the hope for progress toward legalization. Marijuana is leading the charge, and has a long way to go. Psychedelics won't be far behind. The next decade is going to be interesting.

Be around good friends in a friendly place. Avoiding drunk people is a good general rule for psychedelics in my opinion. Like he said, you have to be willing to ride the wave and accept that you're going wherever the trip takes you - if you can't go with the flow you create stress and that's the trigger of a bad experience. Also, if you have mental health issues, be honest with yourself and strongly consider skipping the psychedelics unless you'll be guided through the experience by a very knowledgeable person. Those who have bad experiences a lot of the time are those that should have passed altogether.

I had a friend growing up that was like our psychs guru, he was constantly tripping and he was who we went to if we had any questions about a psych or its effects. Somehow, someway, in his 2nd year of taking them constantly, he just kinda, broke. Found himself in what he described as a "perma-trip" For the next few months it was a lot of me and my other roommate having to tell him what were hallucinations and what weren't, he started developing friends that he'd go "hang out with" and we'd find him sitting in his car talking to himself down the road. We were a house of heavy drug users at the time so we wrote it off as just his "perma-trip" and that hopefully it would end soon. The next month he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and was given meds that culled the hallucinations quite a bit, and we had our friend back. Basically what I'm trying to say is that if you or a friend ever end up in what you think is a "perma-trip" PLEASE go see a psychiatrist. Our friend was lucky enough to be saved but schizophrenia can cause a lot of issues if left undiagnosed and untreated. Please be safe.

My first time trying DMT, I had no idea what it was. I had no preconceived ideas or concepts of what to expect. My friend just told me that it was intense, and that I would have a short but interesting trip and might have some visuals. I was taken down into a world of small elf like people who were apparently already there although I couldn’t see them before, and they were very happy and excited to have me as a guest. They showed me their houses and how they lived. It felt like I was there for an hour or two, but when I “came back” it hadn’t been very long at all. I was very surprised and somewhat confused about how that happened; it was very unexpected! It wasn’t until years later through youtube and internet research that I started hearing about these little elves being a common theme with DMT trips. Very strange!

I have to admit I've done exactly that in the past, giving advice about a first mushroom experience and assuming that it would go well for the subject because they knew the ground rules. Which turned out not to be the case, he receded inwards, which isn't something that I do, I tend to be very emotional on shrooms, but they tend to make me more extroverted, where I'm normally an introvert. With him, he got super introverted and sank deep into himself and then kinda panicked, not a great first experience and not what I'd hoped for him. He didn't have a bad trip per se, but I was grateful he had a babysitter to help him through it. I don't recommend doing psychedelics without a sitter, especially if you're inexperienced. Milage definitely varies! Edit: The true psychonauts are people like Sasha Shulgin, may he rest in peace. His books TIHKAL and PIHKAL are an absolute treasure trove, and there's also the Erowid vaults, though some of the personal experiences probably need to be taken with a pinch of salt lol.

Clinical setting is not great by default: it’s too clinical. You need to feel cozy, not lights blazing in your eyes. I’m familiar with the clinical trials they did in the UK, and I wasn’t a fan of their setting either. For example, their playlist that they played for your trip was cliché hippy music. Some people like that, but I wouldn’t have a great trip with this. As an experienced tripster, I’d advise either to join a psychedelic retreat (they aren’t strictly legal, but people do them anyways, they usually have amazing settings and experienced trip sitters), or find a good friend you’d like to do it with and just go for it 😊

Your brain isn't even developed yet. Stop taking psychedelics. My VERY SEVERE ADHD lessened significantly by the age of 25, and by 27 i had a solid grip in my life. It's much more related to your pre-frontal cortex development (in which you are stunted if you have ADHD) Than anything else. You should workout, meditate, and take care of your sleep schedule, and then wait until you are 25, AND THEN you can take LSD for its therapeutic benefits, but only if you have already tried therapy.

This video and namely the talk of mental health made my day. I live with Depression, ADHD and am heavily dissociative almost all the time. I'm medicated and on top of things for the most part. But a tiny little amount of salvia actually takes all my trillions of thoughts and the haywire clusterfuck inside my own head, wraps it up in a neat bow, and I'm able to actually -think- and hold onto thoughts for more than a second, and my anxiety lifts for a few weeks afterwards. Hallucinogenics don't really do anything to me in terms of actually causing sensory experiences, but the positive effects are enough to make me consider bringing it up with my doctor sometime.

LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life..I became a better version of myself. This experience gave me a lot of confidence about myself and a bunch of bad thought/behaviour pattern were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands alot..it gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip. The main reason for the trip was my severe Depression and it definitely helped me. Before all I could do was lay in bed, now I am trying to rebuild my life one step at a time which wasn't possible before.

I saw one theory that DMT is affecting the part of the brain that has to do with facial recognition, or specifically recognition of friends. so it basically just kicks that part of the brain really hard until you hallucinate "friend shapes" devoid of context. The elves are just a distilled form of what you would identify as a fellow friendly conscious entity, halfway between a person and a friendly animal and perhaps some of our more cherished mechanical devices.
