The land was partitioned by the Allies after the fall of the Ottoman Empire after WW1, the arabs allied with the Ottomans in their genocide of millions of ethnic and religious minorities throughout the middle east. Most notably the Armenian and Greek Christians, the only arab entity that rebelled was Jordan. Which eventually led way to the establishment of the state of Israel. He was within Israeli borders and kidnapped from Israel.
