I can't stop watching this clip purely for Matt's reaction. That stillness as he first realises what Sam is doing, then settling back like "he really wants to do this"... its beautiful

Matt said that the mechanic was created at the spot, but the possibility and hinting came up long before in Campaign 3, Episode 45, when talking with professor Vitro Isham. It's awesome call back to that episode and I love Sam actually remembered and was willing to use it. It was said that FCG has a much bigger core that would be needed for his designated job and that it's unstable and when overcharged or damaged it may explode

I just realized Orym's deal is void now and maybe Sam chose a blaze of glory to save Liam since Orym was making his last stand so everyone else could run away😢

3:22 Sam could’ve simply said “Yes”, and Matt would probably understand. Instead, Sam gave such a powerful speech to let, not only Matt, but everyone else know that FCG was truly ready to give up his own life to save his friends, his family. Matt’s reaction is amazing afterwards. God, what a bittersweet moment.

Matt couldn't be more devastated, man, I hope he doesn't blame himself for pushing them SO hard. Otohan was always tough as nails and this fight was brutal, but FCG would've made the same choice everytime.

Watching Matt as Sam describes the guiding bolt and seeing the moment Matt realizes what Sam is doing..., the demeanor shift, the color fade, is equally heartbreaking and wonderful 😢❤

You know, I thought the moment they killed Ottohan they would’ve been cheering and celebrating over taking out the person that has caused them so much trouble. But no, they don’t get that. Every meeting with her was and I guess now will always be a massacre leading to some of the most tragic moments in the campaign.

Sam always kills it in moments like this. This moment, Loquatius' speech, Scanlan trying to save his last 9th level to save Vax, his final wish to bring Vax back for a moment. Everytime, tears.

Possibly the most insane play I've ever seen in D&D, take a bow Sam Riegel you absolute madman. Making the ultimate sacrifice to protect those you love is never easy but if it avoids a TPK and takes out one of the biggest bads in the campaign at the same time it makes it worth it

When Matt described that last look at Alexandria I really hoped he was going to say it was flat

Watching Matt's face starting at 1:45 is so heartbreaking. You can see how it slowly goes skack as he realizes just what FCG wants to do. It's so tragic and human. I also love how Travis is so proud of the choice Sam makes. Without this choice they all were probably going to die. This is, as the episode is titled, true heroism

The bright side is that Liam gets to make another character for Sam.

Not only was it a great sacrifice for the character but also love how it started with Marisha said "I'm so mad at you." immediately followed with Travis saying "I'm so proud of you." like parents who's kid just got home from school having had a fight and one is mad they fought and the other is proud...and of course that everybody else is sad apart from Travis who is grinning the entire time cos it's so badass. That being said Liam's sad face just breaks me man.

This moment BROKE me... More than Molly, more than Vax and the wish... it BROKE ME!

You can see how close these people are to one another... not just as players but also as a family. When Matt starts to cry, Marisha and Laura takes one look and just breaks :(. People say Matt pushed them too hard with the Ottohan battles, but honestly the fact that he is crying when FCG made his sacrifice, truly shows how much he cares for the characters. What a brilliant, sad, selfless, emotional, climactic, dark and glorious ending to a devastating episode and a beautiful character. Sam, comes across as the comedy guy of the group (and he is) but people forget how deep the characters he creates truly are. Scanlan, Not/Veth and now FCG all came off as very one dimensional in the beginning, but the redemption arcs Sam creates for them are truly outstanding and so so memorable RIP FCG - You were more human than anyone else in the campaign.

There's something that reminds me of scanlan when he stopped drinking from the huge tankard when he left, watching him not drink from the gas can after fcg...that is what makes it official for me

I’ve rewatched this last scene multiple times and cried every single time

I was watching live while at work alone in a huge office building in the middle of the night, like 2am. I was making one of my rounds through the complex and was more listening then watching the show while patrolling. When I heard him saying he'll cast Guiding bolt I was like: finally he starts doing regular cleric stuff for a change, hopefully it hits! I stopped in the middle of my step when he said, he'll cast it on himself. I immediately knew what he was going to attempt and saw no way he would be stopped. I pulled out my phone in an instant to watch and forgot where I was and why. When he rolled to hit and did so, i let out a screamed "NO!" through the empty halls of the building. Loud enough so the whole 5 - story building would hear. This was followed up by more of those "NOs" then I can remember until I had no voice left. I limped against a wall and slid down to the ground when he started rolling damage. I was completely numb, crying everything out. Everything negative that happened to me personally in the last months. All my struggles. Everything that weighs me down. When he got the Hdywtdt? , I let out a wailing mourning scream of triumph and sadness and relief and grief and i held it until I needed to breath. I was not doing well guys. 😅 I never felt a connection to C3 as I had with C1&C2. I wasn't as connected to the characters as well. When i watched Vax and Molly it was destroying me when it happened. When Laudna, Orym and Fearne were dying and Laudna didn't make it in the end, I was shocked and shaken. But not nearly as devastated as with this. I didn't expect this to hit me like a truck like that. I finished watching the episode and rewatched the parts I missed in my outbursts. Only after that was I able to finish my patrol. after that I was brooding until the end of my shift. Couldn't get anything else done, I was exhausted. I was glad I was alone at that moment of my outburst. Trying to explain something I couldn't explain to someone who wouldn't understand... No way.

i have not seen Taliesin react more to anything. I have been watching CR since episode 14 of Campaign 1.

I legitimately cried watching this.

OMG..... I never cried this much in any film, show or production. How absolutely shattering and wonderful a sacrifice made by Letters.

This was going to be a full on tpk. The cast resigned themselves to it and knew they could only keep fighting. And then Sam fucking Reigel.

The fact that Sam make's Matt cry while describing what he's feeling and that he is WILLING to do this to save his friends is absolutely heartwrenching and heartwarming at the same god damn time.

Watched the entire thing when it went live on YT. Can't believe this was the 1st "live" view I caught up on. What an ending! Sam Riegel continues to surprise me.🤯😭

I think he knew he was doing this when he decided to give his last d6 to orym. And it was final when matt sent ottohan to attack sam.

Just watched this yesterday. While I was doing so, I realized a few moments before this that while FCG was sacrificing for his friends, so did Sam; Sacrificing his story so that Matt’s and everyone else’s could continue. The jokester always reminds me what’s important in life and I love him for that.

I love that Matt decided not to rules lawyer it. Technically she had resistances and only should have taken half damage. She would have lived. Man it’s so good.

It was such a strong character choice and it is what defines FCG to the core: a selfless living soul willing to save his friends over himself. You can see at the table that out of everyone, Travis gives the most respect to Sam's decision. May you live in memory, FCG!
