Very subtle analysis. But while you need to be ‘true to yourself’, to be WC you also have to WANT TO WIN. Chess has so many examples of brilliant players who ultimately seemed not to have that edge of psychological ruthlessness and discipline. Look how MC finished this game. Surgical precision. And how he polished off Fabi in the playoffs. Brutal.

Interesting to ask whether the difference in prep has anything to do with this. Magnus kept playing tournaments while Ian went into seclusion with deep prep. I thought this might give Ian the advantage, but perhaps he has lost game sharpness. Though, the psychological devastation of game 6 has to be also taken into account.

I was so devastated when I watched the VOD unspoiled because it was an interesting/exciting game and c5/c6 was such an anticlimactic way to end it. It reminded me of an online game where my opponent blundered their queen but I let them have it back because I thought the game was fun and didn't want it to end like that. I like, semi-wish Nepo could have c5 back because the game/match was so exciting before then.

Question. I'm new to watching these tournaments so excuse my denseness but why do they get to stand up and just wander off like that? In a age where there are so many ways to cheat at chess wouldn't it be better conduct that they stay next to the board for the whole match? To some people, it doesn't help to stare at a blank screen; moreover, looking at something over and over can make it harder for you to think outside the box. Often, you can't get your mind off of that one thought. Then when you walk away, maybe take a shower, your mind comes up with other ideas. But different people work differently. The players are only allowed to be around certain places in the venues and I'm sure they won't have to a computer or their phones to cheat. And I doubt anyone would risk it because if you're caught cheating, that's the end of your chess career.

Can someone tell me why c6 fro white doesnt trap the bishop if black hadnt played c5?
@GinjouArmy
@GinjouArmy 2 роки тому
The white bishop is not being protected in the case when the black pawn moves up. If the white pawn moved it the bishop would be trapped in a sense but the pawn and bishop are protecting each other so it is different. It is the difference of a free bishop or a bishop for a pawn when it could have been a sharp position or possible equal piece exchange instead.
@alexorozco303
@alexorozco303 23 дні тому
The other point that the previous person fails to actually explain is that if you can cement the bishop on b7 with a pawn on c6, blacks rooks can’t go to a8. And white has a very clear and simple winning plan of pushing his A pawn all the way to a8 since it’s protected by the white bishop in your hypothetical scenario

This bogus sentiment fostered by the commentators & fans that it’s not Magnus beating Nepo, but it’s Nepo beating himself is absolutely ludicrous. Magnus is constantly making decisions in order to play precisely to upgrade his position and to put Nepo into situations where he (Nepo) has to also make precise decisions that win or lose the game. Apparently Nepo has made inaccurate decisions that has led to his losses. That’s why chess is a human duel between the skills, wills, strengths & weaknesses of 2 individuals who can succeed or fail accompanied by their imperfections or brilliance. That’s why we actually play the game between 2 people (not computers/machines) to see who can rise to the occasion.

500 blunder their queens in one move. Watching w an engine is not the same as playing actual chess

I feel like nepo is trying to do something by the way he is playing. I mean even a beginer see that its traping your bishop... The match is fcked up, its maybe a political contestation from nepo like Garry did.

Why so much sympathy for Ian? I mean no hate towards him but he has played two horrible games. In a world championship. He deserves the criticism just like any other life situation. My heart doesn’t break looking at his puppy face. I’m disappointed with this performance and turning this world championship into a poor match. Fabi or Maxim or Anish would have given a much better match.

You will understand this emotion, when you will desperately work for hard for something, something that is IT! And you will miserably fail (and you will fail with your attitude) and then the horrors that will haunt you for the rest of your life. Then you will seek either support or you will resign for good. This is was the life time opportunity for Ian, and he simply couldn't deliver his 100%. That's why us humans, emotional beings are with him. It's not about your entertainment it's about his life.

@@hoipolloi5929 hi fake account, you should watch an emotional drama movie if you want to sit and cry with Ian. He’s a top sports person. He’s taking this criticism better than you obviously because you’re a cry baby.

And now chess commentators and chess fans alike are going to pretend that two preposterous "blunders" in two consecutive world championship games can mean something (or anything) other than a rigged match. Incredible.

haha! So you mean the two top chess players wouldn't find a better way to rig a match? Like ... idk for example just continuing after the first loss with draws?
