Yes, it 100 percent was. I was rooting for Japan as their slick passing game was so easy on the eye. Belgium could come bear the Japanese players. I think they got tired towards the end and Belgium sucker-punched them.

The goal that put Belgium into the quarter finals was a masterpiece on counterattack and teamwork. So smooth from the start (Courtois throwing the ball) to the end (Chadli scores). Such a beautiful game of football, from start to finish.

@@samuelblachon95130 I disagree. Japan a huge underdog leading after 70 minutes by 2. Then the greatest comback of all time. In contrast France pulled ahead and won easily. Frankly speaking the france game was quite pedestrian.

As a neutral, the ending to this game was painful. Japan played so well and were clearly the underdog in this game. Had they won this game nobody could say that they didn't deserve it. I also like that there was no dirty play or anything that required VAR, just pure football from beginning to end. Respect Japan 👍🇯🇵

As a Belgian and football maniac, this game was insane. I couldn't watch it anymore. I just heard to the commentary. It will cost me a few days of my life, but it was worth it. Japan could of easily have won, they would also have deserved it. Respect.

I was at work during this game and my boss kept giving me updates. When it got to 2-0 I was in shock. (Not Belgian but I was cheering for them that year because of their fun attacking style.) Then he started giving me updates as they came back and I couldn't believe it. Wish I'd been able to watch.

Big problem: when Kompany was in the team, Belgium played 10 against 11; follow his movements (or rather his passivity) on the Japanese and Brazilian goals. Boyata had played three clear matches and he was substituted because Kompany was preferred by Martinez who made very big mistakes. (Like wanting first place in group G) Second place would have led Belgium to the final without having to pass the tough Japanese and... Brazil!. The English coach had a finer nose.

Japan was already physically desperate at the time. The players responded to the interviews after the game. The 30 min extended game would have been too long, which led them to take highest risk towards victory within 90 mins.
