Tyler dies because Jack killed him. The intent, followed by the act, represented a complete and total rejection of the Tyler persona. That Jack lived is beside the point. He didn't intend to.

Funny story, my name was supposed to be John but then my mom watched fight club and named me Tyler instead. So basically I'm named after Brad Pitt

Okay, so pissing into the wind theory here, but I think I've got an idea on how Ed/Jack/Main character man shooting himself killed Tyler. I might be misquoting it here, but Tyler talks about how the mission of his existence is to drag down the main character to "rock bottom". Blowing up his apartment, melting his hand, fucking Marla, car crashes, bob's death, isolating the fight club from himself, etc. The main character in the end becomes so desperate for control that he shoots himself to get rid of Tyler. Shooting yourself to get rid of an imaginary friend sounds pretty "rock bottom" to me. Maybe he's just that incompetent, that he couldn't even kill himself correctly, but the attempt is what it took for Tyler to be satisfied and "die"

The fact that you recognized that the car is a 1999 car is pretty fucking impressive my guy.

At the end it's not about the actual bullet killing Tyler the act itself is just a metaphor for him finally taking control and reabsorbing that part of him. I don't think Tyler is completely gone since the guys attitude seems different maybe he's just come to terms with the two sides of himself but neither one really won

it sorta clicked for me when Tyler told Jack "just tell em you did it!" in regards to the apartment explosion. and then i pieced together the same briefcase thing and i remembered how Tyler kept showing up in split second scenes in the beginning of the film (i didn't recognise it as Tyler per se but i noticed the flashing imagery so i figured there was definitely some hallucinatory shit happenin)

When it clicked for me: After one of the first fights, Narrator (Ed did not have character name) ended up in the hospital. The nurse was tending to his injuries and was asking him how it happened. The voice over said something like "...and Tyler tells me everything to say." Tyler, is in the other room, yelling these things. And Ed is saying them quietly to the nurse. The nurse obviously would've been able to hear Tyler, but didn't obviously. That's when I was like "they are each other." PS: Why are people that haven't seen the movie watching this video?
