As a chemistry teacher, seeing all those representations of the CO2 molecule with bent geometry rather than the correct linear geometry really annoys me. Despite that, I appreciate all the research and number-crunching and especially the “introducing key scientific concepts and spreading awareness of global issues to laypeople in an entertaining way”. Really love the work you guys put out in this and I’m gonna miss you, Mat! Thank you for all these years!

Love the research that went into this, the only thing that seem to be missed is all the modifications they made to the cars. They regularily change the engines, so the fuel consumption may be worse and as a result the numbers may be off, but by how much? no clue

I was pleasantly surprised to see that you made a theory on my favorite franchise! So many people dismiss FandF as just another dumb action franchise (which it totally is) but it's also so much more. It's a dumb action franchise that involves all kinds of Easter eggs that only car guys will see, and loads of great humor. Their just a bunch of friends who don't want to have to save the world every Tuesday.

I still love the franchise till this day and to see MatPat reviewing this theory as one of his last theories just made me melt. I love you and your content dude! Just gonna put this in here. During the part that MatPat was talking about how Brian and Mia drove from Los Angeles to Rio De Janeiro got me thinking, how long would that take...? Then I looked at Google maps and found that there are no roads past Yaviza Panama. The road literally just ends at a river port. Unless they got some kind of ferry to float them to somewhere that could get them into Colombia to drive the rest of the way to Rio De Janeiro, their trip ended right at an airport in Southern Panama. Or that car they were driving had some amazing jungle trekking capabilities. Unless I'm somehow reading Google maps wrong. Just found that fascinating.

0:09 I believe Stan Lee put this best "whenever you have two hero's fight you always want it to come to some kind of a draw" the characters in the fast franchise do act a lot like superheroes (except Dom, because he's the series villain/protagonist, but that's a whole different theory)

3:18 if you are comparing it to the average SUV driver's commute probably way less than you think. yes, pushing a 1000 hp engine to the max, is going to create a lot of CO2, but it's never for a very long period of time. They also don't sit idle very long. sitting and idling is one of the biggest wastes of fuel there is. My guess is, based on what I know about the fast franchise is that all the hero cars combined probably add up to around a couple months of commuting for someone who dailies a Chevy Tahoe is similarly big vehicle.

It was actually really interesting seeing real science applied to movies that are so completely absurd. It is also surprising just how little emissions there are across these movies. I too thought it would be a lot more than 3 hours in New York, and it is actually shocking to hear. I think if we can come up with a more eco-friendly approach to planes, then we have a much better chance of sorting the greenhouse gas emissions problem, as it's all good for us to switch to an EV, but while we still have planes going about all day, emitting far more than we can in our lifetime, the problem is much more difficult to fix. Thank you, MatPat. I can't believe there's only 3 left.

Love how Matpat usually finds an odd pattern that shows how we can be pushed to think a certain way. That google search about carbon emissions and having it flipped on us is wild. I would never have taken thought twice about it otherwise. Need to pick up matpats ability to do this

Im very sad to hear the who's line episode didn't preform well. My wife and I were so excited to see that because for years we've talked about tracking the points but never did. So when that video dropped we were hyped and we watched it as soon as we got home. I know you probably wont see this matpat but thank you for that and every video you've uploaded over the years. Your videos have been a wonderful part of my life for years and I can't thank you enough.

During 2020 I also found myself liking this franchise a lot... went to theaters to watch Fast X, didn't expect it to be a two-parter, but happy about it! (or is it 3 parts?) Anod about that airplane runway, it's akin to that old soccer anime, can't remember the name. But each time they were playing a game of soccer it took what seemed like days! How big is that soccer field!?

Just a note about the rocket: Now i havn't actually watched the movie, but with rockets, it really depends on the fuel. Nowadays, the most common fuel mixtures are Kerolox (Kerosine and liquid oxygen, mostly used nowadays by russian and russian derived LVs), Methalox (Methane and oxygen, used by SpaceX and probably others too), and Hydrolox (Hydrogen and oxygen, used by everyone and their mother). Notably, for this discussion, Hydrolox rockets do not emit any CO2 in operation. Sure, you need to produce the fuel somehow, but how much CO2 that produces depends on how the power for this is produced. Hydrolox, when burnt, produces various hydrogen-oxygen compounds, chief among them, plain old water (though it should be noted here that water vapor is, indeed, a greenhouse gas, if only a very weak one, and what little water is emitted from the rocket probably has fairly little impact on the total amount of water vapor in the atmosphere). Kerolox and Methalox, however, very much do produce CO2, though which is better, i cannot say, i'd have to look up the reactions for both up. We also should consider that this rocket uses solid rocket boosters, which can run on all sorts of nasty fuels. some of which, i am sure, produce CO2 or some other greenhouse gas.

I would love to see is some fun film theory vids of media I think Mat/Lee would enjoy. One of them is called "Something under the dirt". It is a movie full of lore and mysteries. The other is on the yt channel "Shilo and bros". They have irl stories and have recently added lore to their videos that I think Mat/Lee would enjoy going over and piecing everything together. They are also fans of the Mat and would be astounded to have a theory made about them and their content.

The part about the contracts determining how the fight scenes played out reminded me of the negotiations between Disney and Warner Bros. for "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", where there were strict rules about characters having the same screen time as their counterparts and how they could (or couldn't) interact. 😆

It warms my heart to see someone find love for this franchise. I've seen these in the theater since the first one in the 90s and, despite their amazing stupidity, they will always have a special place in my heart. It made me realize why so many people watch "pro wrestling". It's fake. We know it's fake. But it's fun and we love it.

I'm not a scientist but Ik a good bit a about cars and I dont think this is very accurate. Most of the cars in this franchise r modded, one of the most popular mods or even the most popular is catback straight pipe, Either taken the muffler out or the cats or both would surely make those numbers go higher bc the gasses r being realese well not muffled, plus thats without getting into running e85, flame tunes, upgrade turbos, bigger injectors etc Dont get me wrong it is hard to calculate all those things but im sure the number would be so much higher if they took mods into consideration Either way thx for the video ill miss u when u leave, grew up watching your videos big fan
