The fact they went to another universe to try and find their Jerry instead of just accepting the new Jerry shows how much Rick has grown over the series.

There's actually another good image to show Rick is healing from his trauma in this episode too. Rick deactivates the day loop and the people stuck in it get to pass on.

If you take a look at Ricks car it's slowly becoming less and less like a collection of trash and more like a refined spaceship - which to me represents Rick's healing, he's willing to put more and more work and care into his creations

One thing that sucks about season 5 getting labeled as "them losing there way" is sad because Justing Roiland said it was a result from the death of his best friend Mike Mendel who worked on the show.

I also love how Rick tells the Diane A.I about Summer and how she reminds him of her, which would explain why over the seasons their bond has grown closer to the point that Rick trusts Summer for alot of important things such as restoring their memory and setting up a dimensional beacon.

Also, i havent seen any video address this: the symbolism of Rick's spaceship. He had a rickety, saucer shaped ship which looked hastily put together and only fitted two, but his original ship was built with care and looked similar to an 80's family car, along with seat style and colors, and from a distance looks like a proper starwars/startrek ship, the kind a young child would be excited to see.

It's so weirdly funny and in-character that Jerry of all people would try to act all cool and hero-esque while trying to run from his problems when he's so clearly the most miserable person on the planet and has no idea what he's doing

I re-watched the whole show with the knowledge of season 6 reveals, and I gotta say the whole show is absolutely brilliant. Each episode is Rick getting sidetracked from his objective and coming slightly closer emotionally to his enemy's Morty. Genius.

It was also a learning moment for Morty too. Him confronting the consequences of the love potion really hammered home the gravity of the situation and how it can affect someone who can't run away from the situation. Both Rick and Morty fled the Cronenberg dimension to escape the consequences of what they'd done and so it's karmic justice in a way to have Morty see how his short-sightedness harmed everyone.

Despite Weird Rick (The actual name given to "Prime Rick") killing his own Jerry, I feel like Jerry was a very good point to bring back. He seemed humble, and wise. If anything "Self-Love" is good. Surprisingly, I feel like I could live with that Jerry, and just have a beer with him.

First off, "Evil Morty" probably didn't get reset, he went to another universe through a yellow portal, which is separated from the green universes (Rick seems to have only reset green universes). For the episode I think it's less about displaying how they deal with grief, and more about the growth they've had from dealing with it. Our main Rick is very different from the rest of the Ricks, he is the only Rick who actually cares about his family. And one of the reasons Morty has had growth is because he has a Rick who doesn't just replace him. All other Rick's just seem to get new Morty's whenever it fits them or if their Morty dies. And his growth from actually caring for his family allows him to get away from his past self-loathing,

The Mr. Frundles thing is actually legit terrifying

The post apocalyptic cronenburg universe wasn't necessarily too much for summer and Beth to handle. Because they didn't die from the winter, they died by the hand of some citadel Ricks that were pursuing rick C137. In the episode where summer digs up the portal gun from the dead Rick in the backyard morty takes them to the cronenburg universe to show her "the parts of ricks adventures you don't get to see" or something like that. They run into mortys original family and when they're eating roasted cronenburg some Ricks portal in and use an ice ray to freeze Beth summer and Jerry. Then morty and summer go on their merry way.

I was crying tears of joy by the end of the theory... I'm so glad Rick is HEALING. You should never forget your trauma, but you shouldn't let it govern you and your actions either.

I love how morty has grown so much that he doesn’t even flinch when he had to burry his body again

Huh…. This episode actually shows the third option, the Summer, Beth, Space Beth story. Beth and Space Beth have some trauma over being clones of each other, and what it means to be Beth. However by the end of it, Beth has accepted that Summer still loves her being the regular Mom, and Space Beth is more ok with just being a mom. They actually worked through a bit of their feelings, and got a measure of relief over their respective issues. They don’t continue to wallow in it, they don’t run from it anymore, they grow from it by doing a thing together as a family. Man this show is good!

One thing I’d love to know about the Earth c137 is how Jerry’s parents are doing. Since the serum didn’t affect Rick, it wouldn’t affect them either.

The episode name is also a reference to the Science Fiction book "Solaris" by Stanislaw Lem which heavily explores grief and ghosts from the past.

Just the fact that last scene mirrors the first time we see Rick move to a new reality, where Rick just took Morty with him, only _this_ time he has _everyone_ with him, including _Jerry_ , shows that he's growing as a character.

Hats off to the writers for having lore and character developement in a format of stand alone episodes. How the characters and this universe have evolved is my favorite part of the analyssis of the show.

i think that jerry not leaving the Cronenberg dimension isn't refusing help, but i think its the fact that he doesn't want a new dimension or a new family, he just wants his family, and what he means when he says Morty doesn't get it is that he isn't like Morty and rick, he wont just ignore the past. he isn't running from his problems, he is accepting them. also him not wanting to talk to Morty makes sense, he litteraly went to visit him for, in his words: "a quick i told you so" and Morty literally caused summer and beth's deaths so maybe he isn't willing to play board games with him.

4:34 He was mostly just in the second half of Season 1. He was replaced with the other Jerry in Mortynight Run, which was the second episode of Season 2.

It makes total sense that our rick actually has feelings for the family. He never had it like every other rick. It's kinda cool. I love it

Even if Evil Morty was reset, it doesn’t matter, because it’s pretty clear that his portal gun operates differently from the rest, not just because it’s a different color, but because he was able to portal at the end of season 5 _after_ the event that rendered portal travel unavailable

I think we got our theme of the season, and it very much has to do with mental struggles. First episode tackling with the mental issues related to greif. Second episode dealing religion and cult mentality (and can be stretched to split personalities with Morty being split into 5b NPCs) third episode dealing with childhood trauma. And now with the preview of the fourth episode, which seemingly, dealing with insomnia.

Finally Film theory didn't feel like itself without a Rick and Morty theory

The second episode really solidified this theory by having Rick saving almost every piece of Morty, except for the piece that didn’t want to leave. Rick actively tried to convince every piece of Morty to come back with him, but despite it all, he couldn’t get them all.

I love when they do cannon episodes 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 that episode went so hard!

Their way of responding to grief reminds me of how Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamond handled the "death" of pink diamond.

Dang, this is the first time I’ve heard someone break down the Cronenberg Jerry more than just calling him a disgruntled badass. He actually did what any other Jerry would do: run away from his problems, and delude himself into thinking that makes him the bigger man. He may very well be the Jerry-est Jerry.

I don't think the portal reset would take Evil Morty back to his original dimension since he took both a wormhole and a new type of portal that's disconnected from the old system. If he was affected, he'd go back to his "relative" home dimension outside the CFC, where the only dimensional coordinate that's different is the one that separates the CFC from the other dimensions. [An analogy would be rooms on different floors of a building that are vertically aligned.]

When I lost my daughter I avoided my feelings because I thought I was helping my family by being “strong”. I ran away from what was hurting me and ended up almost losing my marriage. I finally dealt with my pain and while it took time to heal it overall would have been better dealing with it in the first place.

I always wonder, how it is possible that Beth has survived somewhere but not the mother.

This genuinely hit me hard. I didn’t expect a film theory video to explain something I’ve been dealing with for years.

I never truly thought about the tragedy of Rick's reality. His daughter died at a young age as well as his wife, and in every dimension he travels to, his daughter has toxic personality traits that she got from her REAL father, an alternate version of himself that usually is abusive, alcoholic, and often neglectful. He slowly becomes the alternate version of himself, because that's what everyone in that reality sees; that's the role he has to play to fit in that dimension. To add to that misery, he has to keep all his secrets while attempting to drink away his pain, memories, failed plans, etc. All the intelligence in the world can't bring back what he lost, and it can't make him happy with what he has.

I think many of us needed to hear this video.. Sometimes you don’t realize your grief is unhealthy. I sure didn’t till now! “You don’t realize when the healing starts till you look back at how far you’ve come” is insanely true and honestly what I needed to hear most! I’ve been dealing with the loss of my grandmother and dog unhealthily for almost a decade now; but I think I’ve begun to heal due to the support of my partner, he’s been there for me when I needed it and honestly has made me feel so much happier..I wish I could thank him for it but no amount of thank yous will be enough.

I also thought it was interesting that Rick didn't even try and play off that he's not the ultimate Rick he's like "eh I don't care" but also that Jerry also talks about how morty abandoned them and treats them as disposable. So was interesting. Also I like how Beth hung out with space Beth and was trying to be her but not having the skill or know how to do so yet acknowledges her weaknesses

This episode makes it harder to watch the early seasons, because it confirms this Rick's family being taken from him. So all the times the family dump on him for leaving, he didn't, he is the only rick who stayed. Also can we please talk about how Rick decided to settle down with the family of the Rick who killed his family! Something there to theorise about.

Rick's first instinct was to shield Morty and get him to safety when the murder bots showed up. That alone, says he cares. Even if he doesn't want to admit it.

I saw people disliking the second episode, I thought it was pretty good. I laughed a good amount in both episodes. I also loved that they confirmed that they picked up the wrong Jerry at the Jerry daycare.

Freaking finally! A theory from the legend himself it's been a long time since you made a theory about rick and morty!

I know people don't like that Morty was practically reset, but they need to remember....This is RICK. He 100% planned this. No matter how much progress he's made, all that character development, there's one thing he fears above all else: being. Alone. And fear can cause you to regress. We're talking about the guy that convinced Morty into kissing a vat of acid & robbed him of his dreams to make a Netflix special. We're talking about a guy who's just erased hundreds of memories from Morty, no qualms about it. Rick has and will do anything and everything he can to control Morty. Evil Morty won by essentially running away. "That's what makes me evil. Being sick of him. If you've ever been sick of him, you've been evil too." I think that line maybe got to Rick more than he'd be ready to admit. Especially after he couldn't answer Morty's question, instead looking away. Sure, he reached out to Morty, effectively telling him and us, that yes, he does see Morty as a partner. But that doesn't erase what Rick has done in the past. Anyways, since Evil Morty won by running away, Rick devised a plan to ensure "his" Morty wouldn't run away. It ultimately won't work, but Rick will always try. I think this is gonna come back to bite Rick. He's going to realize that he needs Morty's 8% of defiance to keep him in check. Especially since their main antagonist is Rick Prime. If Rick Prime finds out that Morty just innately trusts Rick...He's going to take full advantage of that to get to Rick. Morty said it himself "I'm really not just bait or something for the guy?" Rick replies with "For that to work he'd have to care about something. And he TRULY just does not give a sht. He's....the real deal." Rick himself, outright admitted, that Rick Prime is the Rickest Rick. And sure he might not care about his family, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be above using them, torturing them just to torment Rick. He does. Not. Care. And a Rick who doesn't care, is dangerous. I remember back in the day people theorized that the big showdown would end with Rick vs Morty. And I think they're right; but it's going to be our Morty the Morty-est Morty, vs the Rickest Rick. The premiere and second episode told us one thing: it's gonna hit the fan in the finale. And I think a big battle of wits between a Morty and Rick...THAT would be a "oh it's gonna hit the fan" moment. But we'll have to wait and see.

I think the central finite curve was created to prevent Rick Prime from escaping. It wasn't created to stroke Rick's ego, a haven for Ricks or create a prison for Mortys. It was created to narrow down and find Rick Prime, the smartest Rick of them all. Evil Morty has now broken the central finite curve and that's a BIG problem.

Bro 6 seasons, six stages of grief. So each season is just Rick experiencing the stages of grief about his family kicking the bucket

I think there’s something not mentioned here that also connects to themes of grief: The passing of Rick and Morty producer J Michael Mendel, who Dan Harmon said was the “father figure” of the show, and said how Season 5 was a dark point for the show. So the discussions and themes to grief I suspect likely have to do with the Rick and Morty team dealing with there own grief.

Rick in the current episode seems to be spending time with the whole family not just Morty which fit the theme of the season where Rick connects more with his family but man do I miss the usual Rick and Morty adventure

I think I disagree with the fact that Kronenburg Jerry doesn't care about Morty. The fact that he could have killed Morty at any time but chooses not to and then decides to attack Rick Prime when he says he's going to hunt C137 Rick and Morty shows that he still does care.

I feel like jerry wasn’t running, it seemed like he just accepted his circumstances and didn’t want to replace his family. Are you really excepting a loss if you’re constantly replacing it? To me jerry accepting his life and moving on to survive isn’t escapism. He doesn’t have to uproot his life to go live with variants of a family and a art of him that he lost. Rick replaced his family and still subjected them to a bunch of crap, to have people who you loved and lost in your life again and then still have them resent you seemed like another form of torture to me

I must have missed a critical detail. Why doesn't Rick hop to a universe where his wife is alive and assume a normal life with her?

In theory, Rick Prime is like Cell from DBZ. He wants to test his abilities and in this case, what better foe is capable to test his abilities? But unlike Cell, in a way, I believe he wants to be killed, or live trying with his ego swelling after every battle he wins with himself.

Not long ago, I realized that I was healing through creating characters and giving them similar emotional, mental and/or psychological trauma and grief I've been going through. I feel like it's not the best way, since I'm still running away from other parts of recently realized mistreatment, but it is *a* way, and I think that's what matters most.

There's a thing that's been bugging me and maybe you guys would know but how is Rick able to find so many dimensions with a grown up Beth but not his wife? They died at the same time and by the same thing but we don't see an older version of her, just Beth.

It's a good theory. I know it's the one my brain was picking up on, though more from the emotional hit to the feels side and less from the analytical. I teared up watching this episode, which surprised me. I thought I watched Rick and Morty to indulge the darker sides of my human psyche and instead found that I care about these characters and the mere hint of Rick perhaps finding some healing and this family actually becoming a real, family hit me at my emotional core.

Honestly it's really cool that the show is finally opening up about Ricks grief and problems and how he deals with them and finally confirming the way he lost his family after 6 seasons of getting to know him and his personality. so far this season has been a big upgrade from season 5 so here we go!

Well episode 6.02 seems to agree with Matpat. Since it's all about Rick learning to show his love to Morty, i.e. how to once more open up to another person after the death of his wife and daughter. Obviously an important step to take after closing yourself off due to grief.

This healed my self esteem that I've compared to my past self. It also helped me learn about a show I don't have access to. I learnt so much in 14 minutes. The best part of it was the ending, a great transition for the end of a great episode.

Remember that quote in one of the former seasons, "The rickest rick deserves the mortyest morty". I kind of think he wasnt really referring to himself. Like the Rick Prime has no attachments and is really up there with his tech, meanwhile our Rick is more of the perfect middle man of not being too attached and not having any attachments at all.

I couldn’t help think of all the theories that I watched on UKposts throughout the years.

I haven’t been able to see this season other than episode 1. I always fall asleep around 10 or 10:30. So I gotta wait for this to be on Hulu. This episode was very good, and your theory feel right, and if I were in this position in life, I’d probably be Rick.
