I’m out here camped in the wild reaches of Tasmania’s West coast, searching for alluvial gold. In my last episode I found several cracks which were packed full of small nuggets.
Today I'll be heading downstream, to work some of the crevices that are otherwise unsnipable. The gold will be shiny, chunky, and plentiful, but will I be able to beat my last trips tally of over 22 grams?

@insidebendprospecting Yeah Rob probably followed Levi to that location! I don't have any respect for a guy when Levi takes Rob along to his good locations but not Rob! I watched one of Levi's episodes when he went back to a spot Levi took Rob too. Only to find out Rob was already there with a mate of his and was bragging how he and his mate cleaned it out! I wouldn't show Rob another spot ever again or help him out...that's not a good mate IMO but I guess that's how some guys are in this world. Cheers and good luck Levi your a good man

Watching this is very therapeutic. I think the uplifting music at the end is a nice touch, I didn't mind the music in the previous videos but this feels like a nice compromise. Either way, keep up the good work, I always get a little burst of excitement when I see you have a new video out.

I always wonder when they're painting they don't have a pan underneath the panto catch any that may have fallen while they were painting I don't understand why not have another pan underneath
@user-ry6gt6ei7b
@user-ry6gt6ei7b 2 місяці тому
I see how you use your pan; not just you but Levi & other young fellas. When I first started out with my steel pan all they had was an indented ring an inch from the top edge. The emphasis was put on the constant swirling action of the material in the pan & the gold would be difficult to lose. When plastic pans came out (I still have my original one) they had concave steps on one side like yours does. Rob, you can work the material harder in the pan if it's moving because the gold will always stay at the bottom, irrespective of heavy sands, after all, gold is 24 times heavier than water by volume. Try swirling Rob, truly really. Great shows btw, regards Paul BB FNQld

Miners moss is good for small gold that gets trapped. Try dream mat or one of the others that have larger holes. A shower curtain works well to dam a small creek - weighs little and is quicker than rock walls. Your pan has riffles - use them. Learn to top tap and back wash the magnetite - you lose less gold. Hope that helps.

Well done mate, I would have ran the sluice a little deeper and your looking for a V waterline to pull in evenly at the top end. It’s hard work and loads more equipment to drag around panning, sluicing, and highbanking. Saying that I have done for 15 years and now only less than a year I have found more Gold snipping in one year than 15 years with all the equipment. Much easier on the body too. Love your videos rob. 🙌🏻👍

Hey Rob, another great video. I think an old miner cached some of his gear in that spot and left the shovel that way to make it easy to find when he came back. Just a thought. Might be fun to metal detect around that spot and see if any thing else cool pops out. Cheers and thanks for sharing your adventures. Can't hunt for gold like that in Texas, I am jealous as hell! LOL

Gold fever will ruin this river once the word is out. I would keep location a total secret even if you're far from the west coast of Tasmania. There's almost 600,000 thousand people that live there that would want a piece of that action. Exciting video to watch.
@MW-nOttawa

You'd be surprised but there's more gold still to be found than has been mined in all of human history. In 1900 the entire world's supply was something ridiculously small like 500 million ounces. Since then I think we're probably up around 5 billion ounces but who knows. Also you'd be surprised how lazy people are these days and skeptical. They won't go do the work themselves and they certainly won't help you do it. I speak from experience.

Gold is actually 3.7 times heavier than magnetite(black sand). I like to keep my water level at least half as deep as the sides of my sluice, and flowing at a rate of about 2 seconds in and out. If the black sand is getting washed out, then lift up the outflow end to slow it down a bit. I also like to use a glass jar as a way to view what is in the sluice clearly. Can't wait to get back at it in N. California.

Love the videos mate, drop the end of the sluice down for more flow , ideally you want a 9 to 11 degree drop. I’m a bit worried you’re going to cause a mad rush of people to crash that pristine forest. Never lets them know what your true take is , we won’t mind , keeping your personal safety first. There are too many crazy people in this world today. (Like Levi) lol😂 God bless , stay safe and keep it Shiny 🍻

Agree, drop the base of the sluice. It doesn't matter if the leading edge fins are slightly cutting the water because it's the water you need. Tip the bottom down. You are finding gold in a fast flowing creek, don't forget that it's the water that shows you the gold in the first place. I put more 'humps' in my sluice to create low pressure points. Good luck Paul BB FNQld

If that shovel really is 100 yrs old then it is a great find and souvenir for you. I'm amazed at the preservation as I'm assuming it's a temperate rain-forest climate?
