Finding Morel Mushrooms In Southeast Oklahoma with my sidekick Diesel the Dog.

2 роки томуIt's that time of year again! Early April and Morel Mushrooms are springing up in the forests of Southeast Oklahoma. This was a very productive Mushroom hunt. I am accompanied by my daughters dog Diesel. He loves to go along with me. Hope you enjoy the video.
(Disclaimer) Do not eat any wild mushroom unless you are 100% sure that it is edible. Eating the wrong wild mushroom can be deadly.

Great stuff, Dave! This is the time to be looking for them, agreed. I have my secret morel spot at one of my favorite turkey hunting areas. Nothing beats fresh baked turkey and mashed potatoes with morel gravy! Happy Hunting! EB

I batter them in corn meal and flour. Skillet fry them in butter. Serve them with mashed potatoes. Dipped in Heinz 57 steak sauce.

@@BigfootandMore just went out looking for greys... thought they would be up but crazy enough i found a patch of yellows 25 2-4 inches...i can't believe they are already up...it went black to yellows for us this year here. im sure some greys are up but they are taking their time. southern indiana

I've heard that collecting them in a mesh fruit bag increases the possibility of their spores being scattered as you walk with your bounty. Or just dropping them works too. Haha

Since we don’t hunt the same areas I’ll let you in on an old Indian trick. Well, as old as flashlights have been around. They glow at night. Well enough to notice above the leaves anyway.

I have never looked with a UV light and it might be because you are watching inside the beam that you find them easier.

I loved hunting for Morel mushrooms with my dad years ago on our farm in Iowa. My mom cooked them up the same way you do. There is nothing as good as those mushrooms! I can't find them here in Tennessee. Now I want some! LoL Enjoyed watching the hunt.

Well, If they don't eat Morels, they don't know what they're missing! But seriously, I would imagine that they are omnivores and would most likely take advantage of a nutritious fungi such as these.

That’s a ton. How do you preserve these or don’t you? What did you say they taste like again? How do different mushrooms taste different? So many questions

If I want to preserve them long term, I put them in a Ziploc bag and fill it with water and freeze them. They don't taste like store bought mushrooms, they have their own taste. Don't know what to compare it to, but they're delicious.

Morel mushrooms are only out for a couple of weeks in the spring. In my area it's usually late March to mid April. I'm not sure if you have them in Mass. You might do a google search for morels in Massachusetts.

Yeah, I've switched over to collecting them in a mesh bag to hopefully spread some some spores when I'm walking.
