The bottom of that escape tunnel should be a "T" fitting, so that when you open up that small door and let the sand drain out it doesn't fill up the bottom of the escape tunnel but falls down into the lower portion of the "T" and you could put a metal grate over that section of floor so that the sand falls through the metal grate and goes into the pocket below. If you ever need to reset the escape tunnel you can just lift up the grading put the sand in small buckets or bags transport it out of the shelter and you could dump it back in to cover the escape tunnel like it was before.

Not picking on you just I have experienced foaming underground and it was a nightmare with critters and their fecal/urine being trapped in closed and open cell foam even with a silicone coating. The chance of a nuclear bomb exploding right above you is insanely low, your bunker will be miles away from the blast, so the radiation dose is totally safe. The thing you need to worry about is nuclear fallout, because it can get inside of you through breathing or eating and it'll irradiate your body for the rest of your life causing cancer.
@disposabull

If you pause the video at 23:59 you can see an installer in the hole and the family standing on the grass for scale. There is 6ft between the ceiling plate of the bunker and the level of the grass. For a nuke bunker that is plenty, Swiss bunkers have huge thick doors to withstand the overpressure of the blast wave (which is what is going to kill you in a nuclear explosion) but the requirements for depth and shielding are lower than this. To put it bluntly, if you need more than 6 foot of earth you better have a 3 foot thick blast door fitted or you won't survive the blast.

I'd still prefer a longer horizontal run for the escape tunnel over to the other side of the driveway. Maybe have some sort of decorative structure covering it like a "wishing well" or small gazebo. That bunker is literally the square footage of my current _house_ Other than the fact that if I could ever afford to build my own place it would be in a coastal or river area (i.e. shallow water table) I would definitely want to add this to my plans!
@creinicke1000

Agree on something should cover to camo it.. But I'd think escape would need to go much further away... Not practical in most places because you'd have to stay with property. But maybe extend as far as property line and have a concrete she'd or building that would store vehicle,/ bikes, motorcycles, extra backpacks.
@elslick

Yeah I always though it would be good idea to do one of the hollow faux concrete boulders. You could leave a weaker spot with less metal renforment and would be easy to pick your way out from inside and it would just look like a massive Boulder half unearthed.

When you're welding and you need to sand the surface smooth you don't use a random orbiting sander. That would be for wood and drywall, you need to use an angle grinder with a sanding flap wheel and then finish up with a Scotch-Brite wheel. That random orbit sander is going to take a week and a half to knock down that weld bead flat.

Do you attach sacrificial zinc anodes to the metal pipes and/or tanks? Is there a reason why you don't use PVC instead? PVC from Home Depot isn't rated for pressure. If you go to a plumbing outlet like I do and they have a gray PVC that's good up to 300 psi. The pipe is super tough. @jbdragon3295
@jbdragon3295 2 роки тому
I used to do a little welding under cars for exhaust systems using a mug welder mostly. The only protective thing was the face shield. Sometimes gloves. Get little burns on your arms once in a while. To hit to wear all that protective stuff. To bulky. Need to get into tight spaces. It is hot, but as the sparks fly away, most cool down enough to not burn you. You try to work where they won’t really land on you much. It’s flying away from you. You really want to protect your eyes!!! Full face shield is even better. You can get sun burned from welding.

What if, in a post-apocalyptic scenario, people who want to get in, put a garbage bag on the air intake pipe on the surface and fasten it with duct tape?
@darrelldarrell1447
@darrelldarrell1447 2 роки тому
You obviously want to hide the air intake. What I did on mine was run it out into the forest about 2000 yards away from the house and bunker into a hollowed out tree. No one knows where it is and you could be right beside the tree and not know it was even there. Some of these installs make me laugh at how easy it would be to kill the people inside.

Being certified to weld and fully understanding the expectations of a new job are completely different. It maybe a little micromanaging but it's having clear expectations and ensuring staff knows they got it right or wrong.
