I really like how the dad didn’t change his attitude towards the son, and how he got 2nd place instead of the typical first place, this is much more realistic then the other favourite child stories.
@elderliddle2733
@elderliddle2733 Місяць тому
But he did change his attitude. Don’t know if you noticed but when the kid wins second place and his sister cheers, their father’s phone is sideways, meaning the father was recording his son’s demonstration. Go back and look. He was absolutely proud of the boy and probably watched him again. But life isn’t easy, and it comes calling at the worst of times. I’m a father myself. It’s very hard to balance your kid’s needs and have a good career.

There's no guarantee that anything the son does will get his father's attention. What is important is that he was able to enjoy the moment for himself and not for his father, he blocked him out and focused on what made him happy. Though it is sad that he still wants that hug of validation at the end. If Dad ain't gonna hug you, then forget about hugging dad.

The sibling’s relationship honestly gives if zuko and Azula had a healthy relationship and if azula was mentally stable
@anonomyss
@anonomyss 2 місяці тому
Their mother clearly favored Zuko and even asked "What's wrong with that child?" when Azula was like 10 years old as if she wasn't the one who raised her. Zuko took after their mom. Azula took after their dad. And their mother did absolutely nothing to mitigate the cruelty Azula learned from her father. She just chose to run away to a new life and forget her children even existed. Shit parents. I feel the worst for Azula because at least Zuko was able to make real friends in the end because his heart was always soft.
@gullible3945
@gullible3945 2 місяці тому
@@anonomyss I do feel bad for Azula but their mom couldn’t really do a thing… she saved zuko and killed the fire lord, she would’ve been executed otherwise so I don’t really blame her. Also I like to think that she tried to be neutral but, couldn’t really since Ozai wasn’t.
@anonomyss
@anonomyss 2 місяці тому
@@gullible3945 If you don't think their mother could've actually done anything to make Azula kinder or more empathetic in light of her prodigious feats, you're dead wrong, especially because Azula was younger than Zuko who turned out okay. Their mother was straight up a favorite-picking shit head who didn't care if Azula turned out fucked up, as long as she could live in peace. Shit parent. No excuses.

This hit hard. I'm nearly 2 years older than my sister. Everything I did I had to work hard for. She did everything with a breeze. Even with my 2 extra years she was nearly as fast as me in running and swimming. Karate the same. She learned the movements much faster. She learned to walk, to speak, to read, etc. all faster. When we got older. I talked to her about it. She answered: I learned everything so fast, because I imitated you.

Even though you recent them and feel like there is absolutely nothing I promise there almost always is at least some small things. That must’ve been awful to hear from your younger sister. People don’t understand that how parents raise the first born compared to the youngest is where a ton of changes happen in parenting. That's an interesting story, im a brother with 2 sisters, and 2 close cousins.. before.. when im younger i was annoying to them..weird..and just generally childish.. and now .. after i got older (14 years old now) Im starting to realize how meaningful they are, and just how good the situation is before if i don't treat them like trash, now.. im doing my best to keep my relationship with them as good as possible.. and now?.. i can enjoy all the benefits too..like .. crack jokes together, working together, sleeping in their shoulders, i mean... it's a good life! .. and with that, i also understand more about girls..and now im not that having much difficulty finding friends with opposite genders.. :D I guess hard work really pays itself out at the end

Same it hit home cause I was very successful untill two years ago when my sister started getting better grades and they started comparing me to her and I in jealousy and stuff gave up and didn't even put any work in and my siblings weren't nice either they bullied me even more and gave me no respect... I used to have a bunch of fights and even was hit literally last night and today my mother asked me what my problem is and I finally told her and she hugged me and said she'd not do that anymore still my relationship with my father isn't better.. I'll start working hard from now on and try to get good grades and get into med school I just wanted to add that I hadn't been a very good child either whether it was fueled by jealousy or not and they were surely unfair not letting me go out but letting her.. I wasn't an angel either I was very stubborn and never helped them with anything, never did anything they asked for and sometimes mocked them

I really like how the sister supports her brother, even when the dad doesn't. Too often I see parents' favoritism pitting siblings against one another, but this isn't like that and I love it. I will also say that I can't tell who's older though, but that could be because I'm an older sister that's short as hell compared to my younger brother (I'm 5'0 while he's 5'9-5'10)
@themusicintrovert1393

Yeah, I can't tell who's older either. At first, I thought it was the sister and she's being favored for being the first-born. But, it would also make sense if the brother was the oldest and the sister was seen as the golden child because of the father paying more attention to her as younger kids need a lot of care. Still, no excuse for the father. But, anyhow, I think that it makes sense both ways.

This was genuinely very beautiful and you have every right to be as proud of this as the characters you created are proud of each other. It’s nice that there isn’t really an antagonist so much as there is a standard that the brother has to meet that he feels he isn’t reaching, and that his sister isn’t just a competitor for that who doesn’t notice his struggle. It was very heartwarming.

Me as the oldest brother of my 4 other sibling I really felt this, I've always been the black sheep in the family, my two little sisters both go to university, my two little brothers go to high school and all four always have very good grades. I was and am the complete opposite, all I ever wanted was a father who would support me and motivate me when I was always down (which caused me to develop very strong depressions). Unfortunately, I was indirectly taught from an early age that as an older brother/son you can get by on your own, which makes it really hard for me to ask for help these days and instead fight my demons alone. Despite everything, I am very proud of my siblings for what they archieve in life.

What sucks is I'm the older sibling and I see it in my younger ones. I have had pretty high functioning anxiety my entire life, so there's a lot of pressure (that I give myself, internally) to do well on absolutely everything or I will be worthless and I am sort of a higher achiever because of it, and my younger siblings are always in my shadow when it comes to school, teachers always compare them to me. I dont like that. My younger sister got a C, she did amazing. And she passed her semester finals and I almost cried for her. She did wonderful given her history of fails, she wasn't that happy about it though, because she didn't get and A like me. And I feel terrible about that, she did good and she should be proud. My parents luckily don't put the two younger in my shadow, but teachers I had in the past seem to, and she seems to as well. That being said, I really hope you one day can break from that. And dont give up because you "will never be as good as them" in other people's eyes, if the others around you only see your elder siblings and not you, that's their problem. Doing well later on will hopefully be more rewarding too, knowing that you always were in someone else's shadows. You are good enough, even if others seem "better" than you. Someday someone wills see you for you, and not your older siblings.

I’ve stopped trying to compete with her because I’m no match. Older siblings are amazing. You guys, know that your efforts are recognized, and you are SUPERSTARS. I struggled with this too, just in a different way. In my house, the only way to succeed in life, was academics. I followed whatever my parents said, and I got into M.I.T to study. I came back home waving my phone in the air, showing the acceptance letter to my parents. I was the happiest kid in the world, well, not the happiest, because my intrest wasn't in engineering, I was forced, but still, M.I.T? The M.I.T? Wow. My parents saw this as an everyday thing for some reason, one pat on the head and back on their phones. The very next year, my younger brother went to Stanford University, and he got all the attention in the house for an entire month. I was jealous, I'm not going to lie, but at the same time, I was happy for him. That was the one moment in my life I felt like a proud elder brother. After four years in MIT, I frankly got exhausted. My passion was arts, I wanted to become a writer. In my country, art is a field looked down upon. Arts is something that gets people bullied. Let me tell you, I absolutely love Biology, I love Math, but art just has this charm that draws me to it. It was like my life's calling. Art is so undermined that my mother threatened to disown me if I took up writing. After three months of fighting for my life, I finally got into Harvard University for pursuing my dream. This is my second year at Harvard, and my debut novel is already a work-in-progress. My drive to acheive my goal was stronger than my feelings towards my family (this might be selfish in someone else's point of view, but when you know that you can make something out of yourself but there's someone holding you back, and when your future and happiness is at stake, you've got to do what you've got to do), so I took the risk, and I was disowned. I can shamelessely say that I do not regret going against my parents for the sake of my own life, because I was done being suppressed.

I guess it is just a cultural difference?) Hope when the novel explodes in popularity they can have a bit of self reflection. Cheers!

And i also witnessed such parents everywhere around me. And these elders tell us to respect them, but in actual they need to respect us too because we are humans. At least for me, since childhood, it's hard to escape the feeling that I have to work to make myself worthy of love. It feels like the easy solution. "If I just try hard enough, the perfect family dynamic is in reach. If I try hard enough, people will like me." But it's sad that we have to feel like this.

I LOVE how supportive the sister is. See, I am very much like the boy in this video and my younger brother is very much like the girl, in that he has always been supported and encouraged by my parents, and I have not. Unfortunately, my brother and I have a really poor relationship because, at a young age, I took my parent’s favoritism out on my brother. He also loved the favoritism and would do anything he could to demean me and get my parents to focus more on him. Now, as teenagers, we have a very strained relationship. I wish we could have had the relationship that these siblings in the video have

We are siblings of three girls. Our eldest is the “good daughter” type who graduated with a Latin Honor, hardly talks back, and often asks for our parents’ permission even now that she’s 28. On the other hand, I, the youngest, had always been headstrong, stubborn, opinionated, and rebel. But still, there are times that I think our parents is way too hard on my sister than on me that sometimes she talks to me and cried about it. Maybe they are way too used to her being a “good daughter” that when she expressed an opinion that is different from theirs, they take it to heart.

I like how guy wasn't too upset with not getting praise from his father. It is actually pretty real, the father's psychology and way of parenting the son is rather traditional. Many fathers do care about the achievements of their sons but want them to become better and treat them harsher so they realize how to become better on their own. Less words and encouragement is needed according to such people. You see, he still took a photo with both children.

Remember parents picking 'favorites' among your children is easy to do. You gravitate to the one or ones you have more in common with or the ones who excell in sports, etc. but it is definitely felt by your others kids. Love your kids equally and be proud of each of them for their strengths and their weaknesses.

I actually started crying. A short film has never hit this close to home before. I am the oldest child and only daughter. My brothers are two years and 4 years younger than me. Every single day I feel like I have to prove my worth, I have to prove my validation. All of us swim competitively. I have to actively work hard every single day to at least try to keep up with my younger brothers. I have to train outside of the pool while they only have to show up to swim practice to be amazing. I worked hard on keeping my grades up, but my parents never EVER congratulate me on my achievements. They only tell me that I should know that they are proud of me. While my brothers only have to get B's and they get recognized and praised. I got awards this year at my graduation, but my parents didn't even tell me that they are proud of me. All they said is that my younger brother (by two years) should aim to do better than me. It's heartbreaking and demotivating. I can't tell them any of this again, because last time they yelled at me for saying how I don't feel like I get enough validation. That being said, I am proud of myself for my accomplishments. I learned to tell myself that I am doing great. I got into the mindset of telling myself that even if my parents won't acknowledge me, I'll do it myself. It doesn't matter who you are or what you've done, but I want to say that I am so proud of you. I want to say this because I want someone else to get told something I barely got. I hope you know that you are doing amazing

This touches on a problem that a lot of children face. Being treated as less than because their achievements don't meet their parents high expectations or isn't as grand as another siblings. So the parent gives that child less attention as a result, making the child feel as though they are failing in some way. It's really sad.

I love that the father's indifference, his sister compensates with her love for her brother, which makes their friendship stronger, truly a great relationship, they would eventually make a great duet, there would be more of that in the world. In moments of weakness, he will come to her aid. She also gives him an incentive to train further, for the sake of their joint combat dance and for the sake of their friendship. I really like that the authors reinterpreted the cliché by adding more sudden humanity.

@@jaedhouseproductions I would even assume that the children were influenced by their mother, perhaps even the father pays more attention to the girl because of her resemblance to the mother, who most likely ceased to exist for him. These two do not show envy, arrogance, boastfulness and other frequent negative factors, from which I get the theory about the mother. Moreover, perhaps the detachment of the father influenced the guy and that is why he decided to get involved in sports, seeing the example of his sister, which results in his awkwardness. Then it turns out even more beautiful, he wanted to get the attention of his father, but received an absolute friendly relationship with his sister and finally ceased to be lonely, without rejecting the true reward of fate for his work. *The guy is sitting in the back seat and watching the birds, when suddenly he feels the slamming of the back door and as someone amicably pushed him with his shoulder, he smiles harder, realizing who sat next to him in the back seat*

Sadly, the Dad probably doesn't even realize anything's going on. He had his phone out to take pictures when the son was awarded. He congratulated him after the competition. Took a picture with both their rewards. And *someone* framed the participation prize at the begining. He probably cares. But that's not what the son picks up on - he sees the little snubs, the disparity of attention and reward, and it's eating at him. And his Dad doesn't seem to notice.

This reminds me of my time in Tae Known Do. I was never the fighting type, but I loved forms. I tried so much to be the best I could be. I must have gone to over 40 tournaments, competing time and time again for 11 years. I won so many silver metals but always I feel just shy of that gold metals. I wanted so much to be like my mom who won so many gold metals in her division (both of us were black belts, she a 3rd don and I a 2nd by the time we left). My best memory was one of the last tournaments we went to. Van Meter Iowa. I was 14 at the time competing against 4 other black belts when one of the School Masters thought it would be "best" to stick their 25 year old daughter into my division. My mom was far more angrier than I was due to the woman did not belong in my division but no one was going to argue a 5th don. I put everything I had into my form, preformed to the best I had ever done, never was I more focused than during that 2mins. In the end, the woman was absolutely furious when she was given the Silver and I was given the Gold, my first ever real win. In ways having her in my division only made my Gold ever more amazing to me. My Mom never screamed for me louder (even if she always was my biggest cheerleader). That tournament was amazing and it is one I'll never forget

@@howtodrinkwaterin5simplesteps yeah it was, I'm sure she thought it was going to be an easy Gold for her. The reason why Gold metals are so coveted was more than just winning first. My school always brought home one of them for the small school division (come from a town with less than 5,000 people).
