Oil filter and engine color matching. The dry humor. 😂😂😂
@scottcates

Do you want Alan to sink? Color-coordinating crucial engine components is _dead serious_ seamanship.
@Gagnant926
@Gagnant926 12 днів тому
@@scottcates No, of course not. Alan was already using a white oil filter and Alex didn't repaint the engine into white. So, I thought Alex was making a joke. And there was no reason to repaint the engine as the engine was taken out before. If repainting the engine color was that crucial, it would have been part of Alex's planning given Alex attention to detail and the concern of his own safety.

Your narration is ideal. The engine is the perfect color, glad you found an oil filter to match, saves work. You need to change your name to Alex Hubbard and the tender to Alansonson to make my life easier for me. As you make the exterior of the boat bigger and bigger I am thinking you should have bought a steel sailboat and installed a larger motor to save money :) Thank You again for your excellent narration, filming, content and editing, really enjoy the channel!

Have you got a few gyroscopic stabilisers? If not consider making some out of old fly wheels, brake disks, or water filled tires. It seems like it would make travel much easier with several active stability aids.
@hearsejr
@hearsejr 12 днів тому
I looks like you should get some marine grade stainless bolts for that rope cutter.. I've got a few great condition used stainless Allen head over from when I was helping the commercial crabbers in the Chesapeake Bay Chang the zines and repaint the bottom of their boats.. if you are interested in them let me me know where to send them. I wanted to check into rope cutters, but I did not know where to start or anything. Now after seeing your zinc and rope cutter spin lovely like that, it puts serious doubts in investing in one. My bottom paint, was easy to clean the small growth off on my old booat.. I could almost take an old mop and clean it with a little effort. Well, that is as long it was within about 24 months or so. Lol. Good luck and safe travels.. Ps one day I will learn how to spell, but my grammar will forever be cursed!
@AlexHibbertOriginals
@AlexHibbertOriginals 12 днів тому
The issue is mostly that the zinc corroded around the bolts and so they were no longer held in place to lock tight.
@hearsejr
@hearsejr 12 днів тому
@AlexHibbertOriginals thanks. I like the idea of not having to jump in the water to unfoul the prop. I probably find something that works for me one day. .is there a chance that you have stray electrolysis going on? Just wonder as my zinc was constantly vanishing, at a marina, and it stopped when I moved the boat to a different slip. Theydock master found some one had dropped a shorted shore power cord in the water and the black tapewas not exactly water resistant. They were eating the zinc off my boat like crazy. Every 7 or 8 months.
@mikewilson631
@mikewilson631 12 днів тому
If you thread the holes in the new plates in the rudder mount, the bolts will have a direct connection and be more secure. Any movement should then be only in the holes in the plates on the rudder blade, which will be much easier to replace if necessary.
@AlexHibbertOriginals
@AlexHibbertOriginals 12 днів тому
I agree, although I don't have the kit to cut a thread in 316. Also, I'd be concerned of seizing, since it's a submerged part.

Not sure how effective it would be, but for the zinc/rope cutter you could try a stainless spring to keep tension on the screw as the zinc corrodes away,

Alex get a battery (or 240v) die grinder with a set of carbide burrs. You won't know yourself. Carbide burrs aren't exactly cheap - do the conversion but starting at about 50 bucks ea. They come in all manner of lengths, fine and coarse flutes. Aluminium likes coarse flutes because it clogs the burr if you use fine Carbide burrs on a proper die grinder will eat some of these grinding jobs for breakfast - you need great care. Sometimes you can find specials at industrial hardware supplies that have a special on for a set of 4 or 5. I was browsing a catalogue some years ago and saw a set for $110, rrp well over $200. Sometimes there really are bargains out there and the best bargains are never usually cheap but in the order of 30-50% off. Went there and they were all sold out of course - didn't matter I paid and they ordered a set in. This was a very good deal. 5 years later I still have them all. If you're careful and don't chip the teeth they last, particularly quality ones. BTW I bought your pisshead mate Alan another bloody drink, cheers! Verbosity in narration indeed. Some people....

@@AlexHibbertOriginals I've been here since the 2nd episode. And while I suppose it's completely possible You could have come up with the idea yourself. I mean logically it just seems like the next step. And it is also possible you never even read that particular comment. But I did suggest adding some ballast. And making Allen submersible. Shortly after. You released your UKposts video describing doing just that. Coincidence.!? Who knows. Although I don't really believe in coincidence. But whatev.! So whether or not it was an original inspiration of yours upon purchase or not. I obviously BELIEVE IN and am ROOTING FOR. "ALLEN the SUBMERSIBLE".!! So while the mission for which Allen was originally purchased. could not come to fruition. I believe that turn of events actually provided an even greater opportunity. That is of course exploring Allen's submersible capabilities.! Obviously the ballast is coming along. But I hope if you're installing permanently installed ballast that it is symmetrically distributed. Which I wonder if it's achievable with air pockets between all these separate pieces of ballast. But I suppose if you're leaning a little bit. You could always just add a little more. so I think you'll be okay. on permanent ballast. But I think what we're all really most interested in is your ballast tank design, position and/or location. Technically I know you have a few voyages ahead of any submersible undertakings. But I guarantee. The more you go hard on Allen's submersible capabilities. The more the "algorithm" will like you.!! Guaranteed. 👍👍 However this may also stretch your credibility. And therefore funding. So I can imagine keeping it close to the vest at the moment. Or at least that is my hope. As I've heard so little of "Submersible Allen" since his original announcement. Apologies for the long and pedantic addition to my original comment which was supposed to be just a one sentence reply. But I thought while I have your attention. That I should express my motivation and Goodwill towards all future endeavors that would precipitate "Allen the submersible" . Cheers indeed. 🍻
