The Nokia 808 PureView stunned the world in early 2012 with its insane 41MP sensor. It’s not just the megapixel count that made the Nokia 808 truly a glimpse of the future. It used pixel binning to produce 5MP or 8MP images by default, combining up to 7 sensor pixels into one.

That photo taken from the 808 felt very high quality. The colour saturation was absolutely on point. For a second, I thought that it's taken from a professional DSLR.

That was really there downfall. They did try some prototype android devices back then and since Android consumes more resources they thought It was not ideal. Ofcourse android won't work on 700mhz chipsets that were designed by Nokia but I'm pretty sure Android 2 would have ran well on the 808 PureView since it had a 1ghz processor.

No, that would have been their end as well because they invested so much in their own maps, OS and services… accepting Android would have meant to trash all their things and use Google services, BUT (!!!) Google said no. Their mistake was: 1) to trash Meego and go to Windows Phone (but it wasn’t a bad OS, it just had few apps); 2) not developing meego apps and a store comparable to Apple’s/Android’s; 3) follow instead of leading the way. Meego was out 3-4 years after the iPhone. The Symbian capacitive touch N8 was released too late and without native apps.

I still remember and have pictures from my old Nokia N8, and the quality of those pictures it is sooo much higher than many of today's phone with 40+ mp cameras, even though it was only 12.1mp! The Zeiss lens are the best!

Yep I still have my N8 and it still works I sometimes use it as my running phone or if I want to take pictures at night with the xenon flash it still works better than many phones.

Yeah I've always been a fan of Xenon flash on a mobile phone! Why can't they include it in modern smartphones... Night Mode doesn't always help in extremely dark situations :/

If a modern smartphone just had a Xenon flash I would buy it in an instant. It's the main thing I miss about old phones and is why I've still been clinging onto a really old phone to this day. I just cannot get rid of Xenon flash in my day to day life.

@@Connie_TinuityError Xenon flash rocks!! Night Mode doesn't always produce good results... No matter how good is the computational photography. Having that extra bright flash of light helps a lot in low light! It also makes photos less blurry. The only phone I had with a Xenon flash was the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom. Miss that phone!

@@Unan1mouz Honestly, that's why I prefer taking pictures on an old Sony Ericsson K800i from 15 years ago rather than a modern smartphone. I don't care about image quality (the K800 still holds up reasonably well for 15 years ago), but it's the Xenon flash which makes all the difference.

I just recently picked up a Nokia Lumia 1020 to try its own very unique image sensor a few days ago, and I have to say that despite its age, it's still truly impressive. Colours are vibrant and well-balanced, and shots are crisp and clear. Like the 808 PureView, this has a 41MP sensor, too!

I still have this technological marvel in pristine condition with box and complete accessories. Bought it at launch in September 2012! Love it for superb sound recording quality and excellent camera performance. It was way ahead of it's time, the Nokia 808 still rocks in some aspects even today! 💥😎🤙🏻

@@rudraxx Are you even serious with that qn? LED flashes are WEAK and they are only useful for close distance shot... A Xenon flash is more powerful and I feel it produces more flattering images in lowlight than using a LED flash.

Nokia was miles ahead at that time. 1 inch type sensor years ago. Pure 38mp photos untouched by noise reduction and HDR algorithms. Zeiss optics and a powerful xenon flash. ... They were really into diminishing the gap between DSLRs and phone cameras.... pushing hardware further and further... Nokias and Ericssons will be always remembered.

Best phone ever. My most beloved, for sure. Used it to take the best photos, and recorded videos of many bands that sounded great. That flash was also great at night. Still can't take photos like that

The sound rec for video was also a blast. Big range of frequences and crystal clear concert recording without any distortion. I don't know if another phone did that better, it was also the king of brightness for a long time. I keep mine in worm and will use as pocket camera/video recorder witch i found in exterior by day better than my iPhone SE.

I also owned, 6600, another cool phone at the time, n70, n71, n72 and n73. Then had n80, n81, n82 and n95 black. Then my last Nokia was the n9, the best of the best with meego, which i believe was the best OS on a phone.

Well, I just learned about this phone today. I must say I was very impressed. These pictures are amazing, and the best thing about them is their natural processing, they lack that awful oversharpening that is common on many modern smartphones. What went wrong? If Nokia could bring such amazing quality 10 years ago and now there are very few smartphones capable of such beautiful, detailed and natural looking pictures, flagships included.

Fantastic video! One correction though: the 808 PureView only had the largest image sensor in a phone for about two years until the Panasonic CM1 came along in September 2014 with its massive 1" sensor. Not even the Mi 11 Ultra could match it (which had smaller 1/1.2"), and it wasn't until the latest Sharp Aquos R6 debuting just a couple months ago (May 2021) with the same size 1" sensor to finally match the CM1 (almost 7 years later).

I always loved Nokia phones, it had so many things and tricks, so many functions that today phones still lack. Great series guys! I think other phones like this one are the Nokia N95, the Motorola RAZR, the Sony Ericsson W800, the HTC One M7

The Nokia N95 and the 808 Pureview were devices I dreamt of. Unfortunately I was in college when the former came out, and I had just started my career and had bought the N8 the year before the latter was released. Will always regret not being able to own both of these. Really miss the era of the funky feature phones with Nokia's N series, Sony's Walkman and Cybershot series and the Moto Razr.

Had this phone. What wasn't mentioned is the colour and lense quality of this phone. The output has this film camera-like feeling that I am never be able to reproduce on other phones, even until today. You can see them at the samples from 1:37.

Oh the memories that i had with this phone! Definitely one of the best concert phone ever! Especially if you only availed a gen ad concert ticket or an upper box ticket! That loseless zoom was the best!!!! I captured my fan cam of girls generation when they did have their concert here in the Philippines in the Philippines' biggest arena, the Philippine Arena

Nokia 808 and Nokia N8 are valid high quality pocket cameras even today. Put them in a gimbal and the video quality is excellent too. The images were far more natural than today midrange phones, with color rendition and overall look that is neutral and professional, not the fakeish over sharpened, over hdr, over contrasty images from midranges phones.

Nokia didn't fail, they were killed by Microsoft. Thankfully, HMD Global breathed back life into their nostrils, but it's NOTHING like the original Nokia we knew and loved back then...

I recently just bought mine off of eBay for $120 Bought it from Poland looks brand new with the box and all the accessories I basically just bought it for the camera, but also for a back up phone. that flash is amazing I’ll be taking photos like professional photographer 😅

yeah, it's bright af. I now use a Samsung A52 and while it does get brighter when compared indoors, outside the 808 is still more legible. I have no idea why.

@@hasnihossainsami8375 I believe the better legibility outdoors is due to its ClearBlack display, which is a reflection blocking polarizer layer underneath the display panel. Nokia was truly miles ahead of the competition hardware-wise.

@@hasnihossainsami8375 I'm not up-to-date with the current tech used in smartphones, but I'd be surprised if polarizer filters integrated into displays aren't the norm these days. The 808's Amoled Display coupled with Nokia's ClearBlack technology resulted in unparalleled sunlight legibility for the longest time back then.

Yes, the Realme 8pro, use it as well up to 3 times, Zenphone 8 up to 2 times, and the S21(+) up to 2-3times. But Samsung claims it's an Optical zoom, meanwhile they use lossless. and have no actual telephoto camera.
