Music hits different when you're actually going through what they're singing about

This song is a hug to me, as someone with BPD. It’s like an acknowledgment of what being me is like everyday, the struggle of having a shifting identity with no stability in being “yourself” or being with others. The part “well you look like someone else…”, the whole chorus is a perfect explanation of seeing yourself through bpd versus others noticing “you’re not yourself”. How you worry to be someone and still feel like no one- and at the end of the day you are always someone else; you say everything about yourself and feel like nobody knows you, even yourself.

This is a very song for me. It came out around the time my grandma passed away of cancer in the hospital. She spent about a year there, taking chemotherapy with some other drugs that help subside the pain. We watched as she went from very talkative to almost unresponsive in a short amount of time. On the surface she was herself but inside she was gone. It was hard to go through. Grandma, wherever you are, I hope you're dancing to footloose and having a great time.

i really love all the different interpretations of this song. this song personally just reminds me of the fact that there are so many things i want to do and would do, if it weren't for people making fun of others so ruthlessly. and it also reminds me that so many others, including those that would make fun of me, are dealing with things they don't want to share or they want to live a life they enjoy, but they just can't due to the reactions of others.

it is so strange to me how a song can affect people is so many ways like this one. I have never been able to keep friends that stuck around even when I was a little kid. I recently had my best friend leave me for other people and now I do not have friends and this song helps me get through the darker times. when all I feel is sadness or darkness creeping back in, I find a place or walk while listening to this song. this song helps me realize that I am not alone and there are other people that feel that darkness to and if I work hard as many have before me then I will get through this and find the happiness. (for some context I am I high school)

Started listening to this song in 2019.. before our grandma passed. Couldn’t listen to this song without crying. She passed away from Lung cancer.. Her lungs didn’t collapse during biopsy luckily, she was put in ICU.. I couldn’t say any words while I was in ICU with her.. wish I would’ve but I hope she knew I loved her. She told me and my brother that she loved us before she went, I wasn’t there when they pulled the cord or her heart stop beating. She lived till 72 and had a somewhat happy life I believe! Just wish she would have quit smoking.. Forever in my heart Grandma. I was a Freshmen when she passed. Now I’m 19, graduating Highschool in December. I am now recovering from meth, crack and all pills. Didn’t use any drug before she passed. I am so happy being in recovery and I’m more thankful for my health than I ever was in the past. ❤ We can Recover!!!

I’m 23 and being silently suffering from depression. I have childhood trauma and always been cheated on or left on by people whom I cared and loved the most. This song was introduced to me by a person who played me emotionally. He is now happily married and I hope he is happy with his wife now. My ex who left me after 5 years is now getting married. Everyone is happy. And genuinely I’m also happy for them. All I wish is peace and happiness in my life and others who are going through tough times. Hold yourself. Your time will come. Like watching your favorite movie and halfway through the lights come on and you're ushered out into a rainy dark night. Absolute environmental shock.
