Foraging for St George's Mushrooms 😋

St George's mushrooms are named for their appearing on or after St George's Day. In this video I almost stumble upon a cluster of these delicious edible mushrooms, which unusually appear in the springtime here in the UK.
Caveat: Be sure to positively identify these and any other wild edibles before trying them. Use only authoritative sources to identify them. If in doubt, leave it out!

What a beautiful day to go nature watching and food foraging. And the spring weather is conducive to comfortable walking around those lovely cherry blossom trees. Unfortunately I have to avoid the trees because of severe allergies, but I do get to look out my window at mother nature at her finest 🌺🪴🌷 Great job Pete with one of my fav foods 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 plus olive oil🧄🧅 ginger and noodles 🍜 Talk about mangia mangia 😋

I’m really enjoying these foraging videos, Pete. The way you describe the plants and the things around you is lovely and so very interesting. Thank you. My grandfather knew how to identify wild mushrooms and they were always so delicious. Unfortunately, I never got chance to go along with him and learn so just stick with store bought. Things are just starting to green up here so I’m looking forward to trying some foraging! I’ve looked up some of the other plants you’ve shown in your videos to check if they grow around here. The cleavers are found around here and apparently are an invasive species here!! So I’m guessing they’ll be abundant. They do look quite familiar to me. The edible Hogweed is found here also but seems to be a different species, although it shares the same characteristics. Looking forward to learning more and different ways to prepare. Walking in the woods is always such a nice way to spend some time. Thank you for bringing us along and sharing all your knowledge and observations.

Be careful with the hogweed, umbellifers can be treacherous because many sub-species of the apiaceae family can be poisonous, and some can be deadly. Giant hogweed is particularly dangerous to even touch because it is phototoxic; the sap can cause severe chemical burns to bare skin. Common hogweed is excellent though, so it is well worth seeking out and positively identifying. Caveat: Be sure to positively identify these and any other wild edibles before trying them. Use only authoritative sources to identify them. If in doubt, leave it out!

I feel a lot better for being outside more Ritu. The seeds of common hogweed can be used in place of cardamom as a spice 😋

These St George's mushrooms have a very pleasant taste and a chewy but yielding texture Sha, so they are great as a side or in a mushroom sauce.

Your appreciation of nature inspires me Pete I must admit I don't get out in it as much as I should but I love it when I do...Carnivorous plants that reminds me of one of my favourite Dr Who epsiodes!!! And you've done some great research into these mushrooms too!!!

It's such joy watching your outdoor videos. Beautiful St. George mushrooms 😀 Bramble baskets are easy to make (paco warabi) I found dryad's saddle. Quite tough, so plan to make mushroom ketchup.

You are so good at foraging. I've studied and trained about mushrooms but still hesitate to eat wild ones except for Morels I find....I don't know why, maybe I second guess myself. As far as greens and stuff I am good to go and love eating what I find. Carnivorous brambles are a thing! :) they not only catch you but it hurts. Beautifully woven fence you found. Excellent mushrooms and video, Pete.
