I watched this video about 9 years ago. I went and bought the first CC 4x4 2011 F150 to hit the lot in my town when they were released. That truck now has 320,000 miles on it and going stronger than the day I bought it. It's been running a livernois tune for years and years without a problem. I'd recommend one to anyone who needs a half ton. It's been used and abused. It's towed well over 100,000 of it's miles with trailers over 12,000 lbs at times. It's a monster. If I didn't need to tow heavier then it would be the only truck I had.

@@thajuiceislooose1183 I don't think there is a bad engine choice available in them. I love a good V8 rumble as much as anyone but I haven't had one in a F150 since I bought that first EcoBoost. My advice to anyone now that's in the market is get the hybrid Powerboost option regardless of what trim level you choose. It's been more convenient than I'd ever imagined. We do lots of quad and SxS riding and now use it as a tow pig over my Superduty when possible. It's so much more convenient than even the quietest generator camping plus it'll run you're house in an emergency. It's the perfect use of electricity in a pickup in my opinion.

My family and I had a 2003 Ford Expedition (5.4L Triton V-8) and after 14 years and 220,000 miles, we just wanted to replace her. I was hesitant to purchase a replacement expedition due to the Eco-boost being a v-6. I thought, "that's a big vehicle to move with a V-6". So, we did a test drive and oh boy was I wrong. Our 2016 Expedition is outstanding and nobody is ready for the power that it produces. We go to the river, pull our boat and otherwise use it like any other vehicle and whether we're pulling our boat, entering the freeway or just passing another vehicle, we are amazed. We recently took a road trip to Sedona, Az. and I'm not used to driving it since it's my wife's primary vehicle, but this trip I was again reminded what a fantastic handling vehicle our Expedition is. We treat our vehicles well and while we keep them for many year and high miles, we watch as friends replace their Suburban's and Tahoe's at around the 100,000 mile mark because of reliability issues. I don't describe myself as a hater of all others, but I do love my Ford's, including my 2015 Mustang GT. Oh, and I also love Porsche's :).

Ford also does a lot of their testing with van services that go from the Denver or Gunnison to ski resorts. I have been on many trips to ski in Colorado and watched Ford vans sit near redline, fully loaded, all the way up the mountain, and then, all the way down the mountain, at redline, in lower gears, to save the brakes. One van service that I used said that Ford does all of the fluid changes on their vans and gives the vans a new engine and transmission at $150K and the van service then sells that van to a ski service located in the Andes in South America. Ford then disasembles the engine and looks for all of the wear points. Knowing that those motors and transmissions can take that kind of abuse for 150K miles is the one of the reasons that I'm a Ford truck guy.

@austinstewart6790Місяць тому
I want to know how they ran it so hot on the track with the turbos glowing red and didn’t have any exhaust manifolds go bad? That’s been the only real repair I’ve had to do with mine from running it too hot towing in the summer! Otherwise it’s been a GREAT truck!
@mebeanonymousonytube6 років тому
Would love to see the intake valves after all these tests
@paulkimble62676 років тому
mebeanonymousonytube they did s tear down after the complete test and like any motor there was carbon but it wasn’t excessive. It was impressive
@9kalltheway5 років тому
They have a tare down after wards
@HonkeyKongH5 років тому
One thing they don’t release to the public is that they used 93 octane on the regular tests and then with the Baja they switched to 110 race fuel............. its all about how you treat those little engines. They’re awesome IF you take care of them
@andyharman30224 роки тому
I actually looked at the torn-down engine at the Detroit Auto Show, and the intake valves were pretty clean. That much I expected; all the tests they did on the engine were at high power output, so the valves would have been hot enough to keep the carbon burned off. Intake valve carboning occurs more on engines that aren't run hard.

2017+ 3.5L and 2.7L EcoBoost are PFDI (Port Fuel and Direct Injected), completely eliminating this concern.

@ned pepper What you are saying is bullshit, there is a show still on tv called Axe Men, it’s Rygard logging. And the same guys in this vid are the same guys doing the logging on the tv show. Maybe someone gave them some new hats to wear in the ford video ya think?

so, if NASCAR had the rules they had in the 60's, that V6 Ecoboost would be in a musclecar, and they would be running it.

Then the muscle car would sound crapy because of the twin turbo V6 in it.

Engine is great it seems... How reliable are the turbos and when do they go out? How much are replacements?
@ciphercode22982 роки тому
Cost about the same as a set of tires. It's a simple bolt on part and usually last several hundred thousand miles.
@chrisanderson14492 роки тому
Over 240k miles on mine and still running both original turbos. I live on a dusty dirt road and go through cold winters with road salt. It has been a very strong, reliable engine.

Ok it is now Aug 17, 2020. I bought my 2011 F150 Crewcab 3.5L Ecoboost in November 2011 and I have not looked back. Sure there was a recall on two parts on it and Ford replaced the faulty parts relatively quick and for free. I forget what it was but had to do with the braking system if I recall (no pun intended). I STILL own my truck and save for some cosmetic damage this truck still runs like new. I pulled a bucket truck with it, a fully loaded chipper and trailer and even helped pull my friends trailer loaded with 12,000 lbs of scrap iron with this BEAST! I was going to give it to my step-daughter when I passed but after a falling out, the truck is now going to be passed to my fiancee. I recently bought a travel trailer and currently loading it for a move to a new home. Truth be told, I would not buy a new truck. The new auto shut off features of Ford is not the best option in my opinion. Glad my 2011 does not have that feature. Besides the 2 recalls and regular oil changes, air filters, and tires, I have no complaints. I love My (even tho the misses calls it "Hers" lol) Truck! 65k and still going strong! The Main reason I bought my truck was because of these torture test videos. Thank You Ford.

I got a 2016 ford f150 platinum super crew fx4 3.5 L ecoboost and i wouldnt change it for nothing ! Great power and acceleration. I even put big rims and tires on it and its still as fast as before! Had it for about 6 years and i have had zeroo problems just normal things like brakes, oil changes and thats about it ohh and new battery !

Are there any information available on what kind of oil they ran the engine with, -how often they changed it etc? I'd definately test one 3,5 ecoboost when I get my chance, just aint too many of them around here in Norway. Theres only one 2012-model for sale online for an aquevalant of $65.000,00 (import tax, hp-tax etc..). Until then I'll keep enjoing my perfect running '80 F150 with the strong 300 six :-)

240,000 on my 2012 3.5 ecoboost. I bought this truck new and it is hands down the best engine I've ever owned. Only maintain oil and plugs. It still runs strong and can tow just about anything I throw at it... too bad the body is going because my state uses salt and I live on a dirt road. I am convinced the body will go before the engine. My next truck will be a Ford 3.5 ecoboost.
@paulhunter96132 роки тому
That’s just why I bought the newer model made from aluminum. My last truck I had for 23 yrs was rusting enuf that I got rid of it. But living in a salt state I had to replace the transmission lines, brake lines, different components. And I even had it undercoated when buying it new. With this newer ford I’ll have it fluid filmed every other yr
@travelinman482Рік тому
The host forgot about the Nissan Titan. It's a solid truck as well. Also, I've noticed that he didn't say how many oil changes they did to the truck. Nor did he specify what type of oil (traditional or synthetic) or what brand was used during each service.

@David miorgan no i did not I had the truck for 3 month maintenance kept up and all I'm not going to treat a 30k truck like shit the dealership determined the oil sending unit went out and found metal shavings in the oil, was not my fault but doesn't matter because it has a brand new motor now🤣👍

I went to get river rock with a dump trailer and my 2012 eco boost. They loaded 4 bobcat buckets of med size river rock. The trailor hitch almost went to the ground. The tandem tires went almost half flat. I was like oh crap. All ready loaded and had a 30min drive on back roads. Power wise never felt a thing like it wasn’t even towing. I was only worried about the brakes as the trailer didn’t have electric brakes. I didn’t get to weigh it I wish I cudda.
