The confusion about Zeus wanting to kill mortals may stem from different sources of Greek myths and their interpretations over time. In some stories, Zeus does indeed come off as harsh to mortals, possibly relating to tales where humans are punished for overreaching, such as in the myth of Prometheus.As for the races of humans in Greek mythology, Hesiod does talk about different ages of man - Golden, Silver, Bronze, and Iron Ages, and sometimes a race of heroes is also mentioned, which might be considered as a separate age or race.Regarding the perception of Hades and the underworld, it's largely due to the underworld being associated with death, which is a natural human fear. Hades, as the ruler of the underworld, has often been conflated with more malevolent death deities from other mythologies. However, in Greek mythology, he is indeed not as malevolent as often portrayed in modern interpretations. He's stern and implacable, yet fair. The image of the underworld as 'evil' is not entirely accurate; it was more a place of shades and a reflection of earthly life, rather than a place of punishment - that role was filled by Tartarus, which is a separate part of the Greek underworld meant for the punishment of the wicked.
