Ken was never the same after the Don Frye fight. They lost some health and life after that war. Going back even further, Ken (in my opinion) spent his all his energy and peak years in WWF. A pretty unsuccessful return to MMA after that.

Agreed and well put. Hindsight being 20/20, it's interesting to think how Ken's career would've turned out had he came over to wrestling AFTER finishing his peak competition years in MMA. With many in the WWE having success well into their 40's (Lesnar, Taker, Hogan, etc) Ken could've been a bigger star than he was, possibly continuing to today.

Idk about unsuccessful return, he looked great against Otsuka and Fujita before the mysterious stoppage and gave MMA one of the best fights of all time vs Frye in which he deserved the decision, took on the best 205lb fighter Tito Ortiz and lasted 4 hard rounds not many wouldve, KO'd Kimo who had fought prime Bob Sapp tooth and nail a few months before. The first fight where Ken looked shot was Rich Franklin. Tito was the one that he took too many shots from, Frye mainly hit him to the body, Tito almost exclusively the head.

I don't know if Ken would have ever been able to beat Tito even when younger and at 100% health. People make so much fun of Tito now, but they forget that during this point in time, Tito was an absolute killer. Ken hung tough for the entire first fight against Tito, but he came into that fight with so many injuries and I believe he was already past his best. The Don Frye fight took years off his career, IMO. Tito 2 he really didn't have a chance unless somehow he could have KO'd Tito in the opening moments, and by Tito 3, Ken was totally finished IMO as a top fighter. Much respect to both guys though for sure.

Royce only held on to reduce harm, Ken had the positional advantage which would have won him a decision in the modern day (although they would have been stood up on their feet , but royce didn't have any stand up advantage). It wasn't pretty, but Ken had the strategic and positional advantage and he said himself that his goal was to punish Royce and make it as long and as possible. If Royce wanted to win, he should swept him or gone for more submissions. He didn't. He was a sitting duck and probably got punched a lot in the face.

Shamrock was in disbelief because he just got knocked out and doesn’t remember it 😂 If he does remember then Ken deep down was glad it got stopped because he was able to try and save face that it was an early stoppage. I remember watching this fight back then thinking it was an early stoppage because it happened so fast and after all that hype it was such a disappointment. Now looking back he definitely went limp after that first elbow against the cage. This was such a mismatch but the UFC didn’t have a lot of big names and was needing to grow and this rival (very 1 sided rivalry) was definitely a big part of that. Ken did beat his as in pool though 😂
@breauxcewayne1971
@breauxcewayne1971 10 місяців тому
After seeing the slow mo replay he was not only out after the first elbow but he was out the entire time he took all 5 and was still out when Herb Dean stepped in. Ken had absolutely NO CHANCE and that’s probably why he rushed him at the very beginning because his only chance was a quick knockout and the only significant blow Shamrock landed in all 3 fights was when he landed a hook that made Ortiz buckle. So I’m guessing that was his plan but if he really thought he could of continued and made this a competitive fight then he really didn’t remember getting knocked out.
