Animal Armory - Episode 3: Masters of Disguise | Animal Documentary
Watch 'Animal Armory - Episode 4' here: • Lethal Poison | Animal...
In the animal kingdom, the ability to hide amongst your surroundings and be unseen not only affords you safety from predators but can also make you a deadly hunter. In the African savannah, Zebra graze on grasses they seemingly disappear into. In the Madagascan jungles, Chameleon change the color of their skin to suit the trees they climb. In the warm tropics, Mantis blend in amongst the foliage as they hunt their prey. The Octopus becomes one with the great barrier reef with apparent supernatural ability. Polar Bear and the Arctic Fox disappear in the blinding snow as they scour the arctic tundra. Penguin's play, unseen by predators, in Antarctica and the Snow Leopard rules the mountains of Southeast Asia. Animal Armory takes a closer look at these mighty instruments of destruction and the animals that wield them with absolute precision.

Regarding mantises, I never knew we had any in the lowlands of western Oregon until 5 years ago. We had one sitting on our porch. And this is the 45th parallel, so we're not in the tropics. They said mantises are in the tropics. I'm saying their range extends well beyond the tropics.

They’re mostly from the tropics but we have non native and native ones here in North America like the Carolina Mantis. Lots of gardeners released the tropical ones in their yards in the NE US and other places to fight insects, so they have been introduced here by humans a lot besides getting here on storms etc.

There is a big mistake in this. The dazzle camouflage doesn't work to hide the zebra in the grass, it's designed to make it difficult to judge distance to a target. So when the lion goes to attack the zebra he might pounce too soon, and when he is in the chase he will find it difficult when to strike out with his claws. The same thing was used against submarines.
@shafqatishan437
@shafqatishan437 Рік тому

@NinaBaby210
@NinaBaby210 11 місяців тому
I wouldn’t call it “a big mistake?” Scientist have posed varying hypothesis as to the actual “function of zebra striping.” Amending their findings as more is learned. The overall consensus being; in a large groups, it is hard to single out one target. Therefore making it appear to be one very large target to a predator. Also; as pointed out in the documentary; in high grass they DO provide a camouflage-effect that aids in eluding predators. What you report may be another function of Zebra stripes, however this documentary I feel, does indeed provide accurate information.
