This part of France looks magnificent, I hope I can visit it sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!

The French Alps are as beautiful as the food in France is good. The area around mont Blanc is breathtaking! Big like from Switzerland!

For the tranquil traveller, Lyon makes for a wonderful alternative to Paris, and I say this as a Parisian. The Lyonnais are friendlier than the Parisians (arguably), the food scene feels more authentic and homely, the city is much more manageable and is the perfect gateway to fan out to Provence, Savoie or Bourgogne (Burgundy), or even Italy (Piedmont/Genova) and Switzerland. Thanks for the characteristic warmth in the video Rick :)

Lyon is a beautiful place. Chamonix is too crowded and expensive for our tastes. The Vercors Region just south of Grenoble has beautiful views, fabulous hikes, food that’s to die for, and it’s much less crowded and much less expensive. The Resistance Museum is a must see. The French Alps and Lyon are my favorite parts of France.

This was my all time favorite episode... it just had everything: city sights, historic sights, food, nature... can't wait to go back to Europe!

Of all the zillions of places you have gone and shared with us on your Travels, this one is just INSPIRING in the upmost. I;ve been to Lyon and fell head over heels for the city, but didn't get to Chamonix or the French Alps. Your show has made me reach for my pack and head back to Lyon and walk the Tour de Mont Blanc! So relaxing 🥱😌. I want to spend a half decade in France with an old 2CV. The French are lucky to have a country with so much of everything. History, culture, cuisine, the most beautiful scenery in Europe, technology, economy, a beautiful language.

I've just come back from Lyon and Chamonix and enjoyed every minute of it, thanks to you, Rick Steves!

Rick Steves ignited the passion of Europe in me. I'll visit all the countries of Europe without fail. Someday sooner.

Tres magnifique ! Superb mountain trails, atmospheric views, fabulous gondola rides, hearty food in the company of nature loving companions. Doesn't get better.

If I hike for 6 hours/day on high altitude, I will need to eat more than 1 sausage lol This episode is different, instead of a typical hotel, Rick was staying in a hut/hostel, the kind of environment I like. It will motivate me to hike when I know there's a cheese shop on the way! My first visit to Lyon was a day trip from Paris, then my second visit to Lyon was a 3 days stay, all I remember was all the hills I had to walked up to with my luggage! Before 2019, I was planning my hike to Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. Thru my research, I learned that it's a very expensive trip. The 8 days hike must be guided, the crew will carry all the food/water, cookware etc to cook at each stop, set up tent etc. There's no hut like this trail, so the price tag was too high for me and I found out my knee injury prevents from this type of hike, it's a good thing I didn't commit to it. Instead, I went to spend 23 days in 2019 all over Turkey, including 3 days of sailing along the Turkish Rivera, I had a great time exploring a new country. During last year lock down, I was so glad I traveled all over the places in 2019.

I really enjoyed the pace and content of this video. I tried one other random travel vlog of Paris, and the pacing was anything but relaxing -- a new picture every 1-2 seconds, with a very fast-paced feel. Also, it showed a lot of food but not a lot of shots of the scenery and architecture, so I didn't really feel like I was getting any sense for the place. This video, on the other hand, was like a breath of fresh air. Thanks for putting together such a great piece and letting us get a tiny taste of what the place feels like!

My 2yr old knows the Rick Steve's jingle already. We ❤ Rick Steves and when I travelled to Europe last, when I was pregnant with my child, he was my saviour! I knew what to look for and even how to do what I needed. Just fabulous. Thanks Rick!

Rick has a way of de-politicizing the areas and experiences he proposes to us. Which is not always easy to do, I am sure, because he takes us to places that were at times, throughout history, highly "political" (I am using a polite word, here). Mid August 2021: When I finish reading the news and I am looking for just an experience of being alive and enjoying basic things like breathing fresh air, looking at beautiful sceneries and eating delicious food, I come to Rick. I recall watching this on this public station. A very entertaining well rounded show. I think my wife recorded most of the episodes onto VHS cassettes. Just so you know how far back this show goes. Just Mr Steve's who writes his own copy a cameraman/ audio engineer and perhaps an escort depending on where you are. Yes this was amongst the better fare PBS offered. Kai! To the Uploader. France 🇫🇷🇫🇷 is truly an amazing and interesting country there's a place for everyone regards of what your type no wonder it is the world's most visited country coming from the Philippines.

Life in Europe seemed so much Beautiful and worthy having while We where young. Steve makes easy and understandable, I always Wanted to learn France.

Great tours place visited as a student and later as tourist in 1990s.Great trips magnificent church views of city and church’s magnificent loved area with friend Guistlain and Gill..Food great magic reins out love mountains too..

For the traveller from Paris, and that city’s rather monochrome palette of grey to greyer (with splashes of very intermittent colour to relieve the gloom, for Paris knows that it’s a resolutely northern place, and its buildings reflect those often cloudy skies), the first thing that strikes you about Lyon, 250 miles to the south, are the warm colours. Someone described the city’s overall appearance as like a crate of peaches ripening in the sun and this captures it nicely, as the red roofs and sun-bleached, fading stone more than hint of Le Midi, a hop-skip-and-jump down the Rhone Valley (Vienne? Valence? Montelimar?) It’s no accident that Lyon is almost exactly on the same latitude as Milan and Venice, as there is more than a hint of the Italianate in the ochre walls. Lyon is a lovely open city, with significant elevation on one side - reminiscent of Grenoble - looking east over the rivers divided by Presque Ile, across the rest of town. The most charming bit is the oldest bit, as is always the case in most French (and other countries’) cities. I almost gave myself a double hernia trying to romp up Fourviere Hill, but the pain soon eased when I clocked the majestic views from atop. There are also significant Roman ruins up here that are more extensive than I’d expected; a couple of theatres and other sundry bits and bobs. Least said about the Basilica (a sort of Romanesque/Byzantine mess of a mash-up) itself, the better. The reason to be up here are the views. The best church in Lyon is the main cathedral just down the hill. The rest of the time is best spent just aimlessly wandering. The old working-class district of La Crois-Rousse, is a (slightly gentrified) throwback to Lyon’s industrial past; a kind of self-contained village within the city. Place Bellecour, the city’s main square is a big, pompous, unwieldy thing and resembles nothing so much as a military parade ground. You can imagine Napoleon rallying his troops here on his way back from exile, (even if he never did.) But minor quibbles aside, Lyon can easily cope with 3 days of your life. I still can’t quite decide if its ‘northern’ or ‘southern’, though; I have always personally marked the start of Le Midi on this side of France at Montelimar, but on a midsummer’s day in Lyon, with the cicadas’ electric buzzing filling the air: this could well be the ‘true’ south. But where oh, where, are the shutters?!

Oh, God.. This is so beautiful. Can someone please invite me to this cuddling, romantic, stunning country..?
