Having worked in such a Granite Quarry for 24 years, one step they didnt show is the Scalps, its a byproduct to get rid of the dirt and dust out of the second phase of production, its a roadbase product which is the dirt/dust and small stone product which is 20mm down to dust, ideal for roadworks. also the water sprays have nothing to do with the separation its merely for dust control, as granite is high in Silica, which can cause Silicosis.Making dust which is what they are calling sand is a part of the production, which can be up to 20% of production, Scalps is around 10 to 15% of production, then you have multiple graded sizes, some are single size, like 5mm, 7mm 10mm, 14mm, 20mm, then you can have blended sizes which is used in the concrete industry, which can be a mix of 5mm/7mm/10mm/14mm and sometimes 20mm, granite has a cubic metre weight measure of approx 1.4 tonnes.

Interesting to also state what artifical sand may be used for, which depends on the type of feed rock. This is of great importance as it is not a "one size fits all" product. Great video👍

wonder if they wash the finished sand to see if theres gold or other precious metals in there , think with the volumes they work with there it should be viable to even get small amounts out they do need water though (might be able to use seawater _

Having worked on crushers years ago there is one thing that comes as part of the process that was not shown here. That substance is simply crusher dust and it tends to accumulate everywhere under the process equipment. Crusher dust is produced when you break the rock down and it has the consistency of talcum powder. It is very abrasive and can get in anywhere where there is a small opening. You have to be diligent in having it removed as it will quite literally eat the entire plant if not taken care of in a timely manner.

Are there uses for crusher dust? Does it have value?
@oh8wingman
@oh8wingman 29 днів тому
@@theotheleo6830 Actually it does have a use but few use it for that purpose. Crusher dust can be mixed in with soil and it will contribute to better drainage, loosening up the soil for better root penetration and it contributes extra minerals that are beneficial to plant growth. Best of all, most crusher operations will give it to you for free if you haul it away so they do not have to dispose of it.

The term “artificial” just does not apply. Just because something goes through a manufacturing and blending process does not make it artificial. You wouldn’t call sawdust artificial would you?
@jeffreymaugenest

Artificial also means man made, which refers to the process in this case. This is an important ingredient in manufacturing concrete. Already made sand available from ocean beaches can not be used in concrete because of it salt content and organic materials that would need to be washed out.

Relative to natural sand, what comprises the “unique properties” of artificial sand? Because it appears to be a granitic soil, does it present higher levels of radon gas?

Radon comes out of soil not rock
@raymondbunkofske4702
@raymondbunkofske4702 27 днів тому
@@daveklein2826Radon does indeed come from rock: “Radon is produced from the natural radioactive decay of uranium, which is found in all rocks and soils. Radon can also be found in water. Radon escapes from the ground into the air, where it decays and produces further radioactive particles.” Google is your friend. The trick is whether or not the rocks you are crushing contain Uranium.

Biggest difference is the corrosive natural of the product.
@UncleWally3
@UncleWally3 26 днів тому
@@daveklein2826 No, radon (colorless, tasteless, odorless radioactive gas) is derived from the decomposition of uranium in the soil and rock. I asked the question because I live in a place where there are no rocks and radon mostly comes from imported crushed rock used as a base for foundations. That said, the quantity of radon emissions is generally mitigated by proper ventilation and continuous testing. However, where that ventilation isn’t present, exposure over time generates significant issues, most notably lung cancer.
