As a black woman in corporate America, I have had to sign three non-compete agreements back to back. So, I've had to continuously change industries every time. I need to pay back my student loans to obtain a master's degree to get the same job my palm counterparts get with OTJ experience. Non-competes are another form of indentured servitude.

Non-Compete Shenanigans: When I was in college at my HWCU (Purdue University West Lafayette, IN) and afterwards in Indianapolis, IN, I went to school with and worked with people (white people) who were told to sign non-compete clauses. At Purdue, I would have lunch with them, they told me they refused to sign them and therefore lost their co-op summer jobs. They said if they paid them a royalty or bought them out acquiring the product that they helped invent then that would be ok but these companies wanted them to sign away everything. I learn a lot about General Mills, General Foods, Kellogg's, Post, Arthur Anderson (now defunct), Dow-Chemcal, etc). In the local television market in Indianapolis a few years ago some people who still live there will remember less than 7 years ago, Angela Buchmann (a young leggy white female) was a second-string weather anchor at Channel 8 (then a CBS Affiliate Station), left Channel 8 (seeing the trouble coming) and WAS OFF THE AIR FOR A YEAR and then Channel 13 (the NBC Affiliate) picked her up to replace outgoing black male lead weather anchor Chris Wright who was in contract negotiations. Chris, the lead Weather Anchor was being "asked" to stay but at a lower position not as the lead weather anchor but instead take a backseat to the white girl, Angela, who was being brought in to eclipse him as the new lead weather anchor. He would not do it and ended up leaving, went 100 miles away to South Bend, IN and then came back to Indianapolis to be the lead weather anchor at Channel 4 (the new CBS Affiliate in town) when Channel 8 lost its CBS-Affiliation status. Chris was the 2nd high-profile anchor at Channel 13 to leave (remember what happened to black female Co-Anchor Andrea Morehead? Remember her exit from Channel 13. Oh, Channel 13 is a TEGNA-owned station. TEGNA was up for sale to Standard General last year (Roland was going to partner with the CEO). The FCC would not allow the purchase. This non-compete stuff and shenanigans in media and business is REAL!
