Amazing how, after forty years, clearly this story anticipated how a land war in Europe would play out. The effect of anti tank missiles, the supply issues caused by extreme ammunition consumption - and the impact of new airpower technology. Most recently we’ve seen the need to strike at rear areas and support elements.

They are not doing as bad as you think . The problem especially in America is propaganda. Every day its another shit story. Running out of missiles Running out of shells Running out of men definitely losing 😂 none of which is true. In reality they control 30% of the country and can strike the rest with impunity. They have taken severe casualties however they have also killed half a million Ukrainian. That's more men than the US lost in the entirety of World War 2. They haven't committed but a fraction of their forces yet the Ukrainians have taken to kidnapping 16 year old boys and old men at gunpoint to send to the front as they have no one left 🙄
@dgthe3
@dgthe3 2 місяці тому
@@elelz6409 There was ample corruption back in the Soviet era too. Its a major reason for why the whole system collapsed. But what they did have was vastly larger numbers than Russia has today. And a lot of their equipment was only about half as old as what Russia is currently using. But the leadership, the way Russia thinks about war hasn't really changed. Then, like now, there was minimal autonomy at lower levels. So all decisions have to go up the chain. Which could have been an utter nightmare for the USSR. With ~300k personnel in Ukraine, Russia has struggled to control & co-ordinate units. In the 80s, they'd have used 10x that to invade the west.
@corn1971
@corn1971 2 місяці тому
The west wasn’t that dramatically more technically advanced militarily in the 80s. The gap was beginning to grow and the Soviets had massive numbers of kit and forces. Russia’s problem is they still fight with the same kit that would have been used in this era while the west has moved 40 years on. Ukraine with a fraction of western modern kit has wrecked Russia.

For some reason I thought the quote was: "...but 688 boats weren't built to do easy things."

Ummm... Ordered to observe and report, they instead attack and overpower a Russian patrol, burdening themselves with a woman and prisoners. THAT should compromise their mission....

Are you talking about downloading this onto your device from UKposts? It's a massive file. I doubt it'll even fit. It's not a 15 minute podcast. It's many many hours long

I'm only at hour four. But HOW do the Rooosians expect to transport all that oil, if they get it? There has been no discussion of that problem, and it's a big 'un.

That’s always been a glaring issue for me too and I’m surprised he let that slip by. All he had to do was mention a plan for building / buying additional tankers or something, because well that’s the only way to get the oil anyway.

Lots of dumb conscripts and 2 lots of buckets. Russia stronk!

That's an engineering problem, not a military problem. The military would have each man, fill a bucket, walk it back to Russia and then criticise him for not doing it quick enough.

I enjoy the Tom Clancy novels with co-writer Steve Pieczenik. I understand, Dr. Pieczenik is the real Jack Ryan in the flesh. He's a remarkable man!
