SpaceX is set to launch the Starship SN10 prototype to an altitude of approximately 10 kilometers. A launch attempt is possible between 9 am and 6 pm Central time on Wednesday. However, as with testing, there is always a chance that teams could decide to stand down and try again on a different day.

@Imbeachedwhale
@Imbeachedwhale 3 роки тому
One thing I noticed in watching the explosion a few times (including from other videos) is the methane header tank came out early. It is clearly burning on the ground before SN10 crashes back down. It’s almost like it was shot out of the gun that SN10 became, suggesting the explosion started in the methane tank. This suggests two failures: 1. The fire in the skirt area somehow passed up the fuel lines to the methane tank 2. A weld failed, allowing oxygen into the methane tank. Probably the LOX tank, and probably due to the hard landing.
@max_kl
@max_kl 3 роки тому
From the explosion it looks to me like methane and oxygen (LOX?) mixed in the bottom tank. Maybe the fuel pipes in the center transferred the shock to the methane "header" tank, or the tank sprung a leak in the skirt area. I don't think the methane header tank exploded, due to two reasons: how would it get ignited? There should be no hot objects near it. And also, if the small tank had exploded, it probably would have blown the vehicle into two sections. Instead, it seems like the thrust/skirt section was blown out the bottom.
@eric3434
@eric3434 3 роки тому
She was dumping a ton of LOX. No doubt from too much force on the thrust puck after landing on her engines. Likely ruptured the downpipe. If she had a respectable landing system, she'd probably been ok

@PeTTs0n88
@PeTTs0n88 3 роки тому
@@paulwilson8367 Technically it was a soft landing - the vessel remained in control throughout, velocity was close to nominal and it didn't rapidly disassemble itself when it made contact with the ground. My congratulations to you SpaceX, my one criticism is that why in the hell aren’t they putting big legs on these prototypes to save them, later they can put on smaller legs when they get the thing totally dialed in. Sure they will pay a weight penalty, but it doesn’t matter on these Proto types because they aren’t really going anywhere, the more important thing is to save the spaceship for analysis, physical analysis while it is still in one piece. Please spacex, Put on some big legs, you have plenty of data to show that the little legs leave you with nothing but leaning towers, and so far you’re lucky this is the only one that tipped over, many others almost did!

Should we be concerned that it looks exactly like the space ship from the old black and white Flash Gordan movies with Buster Crabb?

I’m amazed that the part they’ve been having trouble with is the landing burn, I’d’ve figured that controlling the descent would take several tries but nope, they nailed first try, and now they’re basically flaunting their controlled descent abilities.

That's right, the launch, descend and the belly-flop was perfect since SN8. They even blow the ships in the right spot.

Wow it managed to perform two flip and burns in the space of just a few minutes 😂 In all seriousness though this was incredible!

Just keep in mind how fast SpaceX is improving. A very difficult maneuver to get it done right and they already managed to land it. With every attempt they get more data to refine the maneuver.
